Heterogeneous catalytic degradation of phenolic substrates: catalysts activity

2009

This review article explored the catalytic degradation of phenol and some phenols derivates by means of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Among them, only the heterogeneous catalyzed processes based on catalytic wet peroxide oxidation. catalytic ozonation and catalytic wet oxidation were reviewed. Also selected recent examples about heterogeneous photocatalytic AOPs; will be presented. In details, the present review contains: (i) data concerning catalytic wet peroxide oxidation of phenolic compounds over metal-exchanged zeolites, hydrotalcites, metal-exchanged clays and resins. (ii) Use of cobalt-based catalysts, hydrotalcite-like compounds, active carbons in the catalytic ozonation proc…

Ferric sludge derived from the process of water purification as an efficient catalyst and/or support for the removal of volatile organic compounds

2019

Ferric chloride solutions are used as coagulants or flocculants in water treatment operations for human consumption. This treatment produces large amounts of clay-type solids formed mainly of montmorillonite with iron oxides and humic substances. This ferric sludge can be used as an efficient catalyst for the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by total oxidation. This waste isolated in the purification process has been activated by calcinations in air, characterized by several physicochemical techniques and employed as a catalyst for the removal by total oxidation of representative VOCs: toluene, propane and mixtures of toluene/propane with or without water. This ferric sludge has…

Electrochemical treatment of aqueous solutions of organic pollutants by electro-Fenton with natural heterogeneous catalysts under pressure using Ti/I…

2018

The treatment of toxic organic pollutants by electro-Fenton (EF) presents some drawbacks such as the necessity to work at low pH and the low solubility of oxygen in water contacted with air or oxygen at room pressure that results often in slow and relatively low abatements. Here, the coupled adoption of natural heterogeneous catalysts and of relatively high pressure was proposed in order to improve the performances of EF for the treatment of organic pollutants. Caffeic acid (CA) and 3-chlorophenol were used as model resistant organic pollutants. EF process was performed using both conventional homogeneous FeSO4 and natural heterogeneous catalysts (pyrite, chalcopyrite, Fe2O3 and Fe3O4) as i…

Sol–gel material as a support of organometallic catalyst for ethylene polymerization

2008

Abstract The sol–gel procedure was applied to obtain powdery materials with different structures and morphology. It was possible to produce almost non-porous silica powder, with an extremely low surface area (ca. 4 m 2 /g) and very high uniformity of spherical particles as well as materials with various uniformity of particles and different porosity, most likely associated with increasing pore volume. Dependent on the properties of the carrier, the resulting supported vanadium catalysts (VOCl 3 /AlEt 2 Cl) showed significant differences concerning activity and stability. It was confirmed that improved hydrophobicity of the carrier’s surface may be useful and improve the activity of the syst…

Effect of silica-type sol–gel carrier’s structure and morphology on a supported Ziegler–Natta catalyst for ethylene polymerization

2006

Abstract Silica xerogels with different structures and morphology, synthesized using a sol–gel procedure, were used as a carrier of vanadium catalysts (VOCl 3 /AlEt 2 Cl) for ethylene polymerization. Two techniques of catalyst synthesis were applied: slurry impregnation and gas-phase adsorption and the relevant polymerization methods were then employed. The effect of the carrier structure and morphology on the vanadium loading in the catalysts, the catalyst’s activity and kinetic stability were investigated.

Copolymerization of ethylene with norbornene or 1-octene using supported ionic liquid systems

2016

Copolymerization of ethylene with norbornene (E/NB) and ethylene with 1-octene (E/Oct) is performed using supported ionic liquid (SIL) systems, in which metallocene (Cp2VCl2) or post-metallocene [VCl2(salenCl2)] vanadium catalysts are immobilized in pyridinium chloroaluminate ionic liquid supported on silica. The studied SIL catalysts show higher activities as well as stability than their non-supported analogues. In addition, higher activities and better comonomer incorporation are observed for norbornene (above 30 mol%). The comonomer incorporation has considerable influence on copolymer molecular weight (M w), melting temperature, crystallinity degree, and microstructure of the copolymers…

The effect of the comonomer on the copolymerization of ethylene with long chain α-olefins using Ziegler–Natta catalysts supported on MgCl2(THF)2

2000

Abstract The effect of the type of the comonomer (1-pentene, 1-hexene, 1-octene, 1-decene and 1-dodecene) on the copolymerization of ethylene with α-olefin over vanadium (VOCl3 and VCl4) and titanium (TiCl4) catalysts supported on MgCl2(THF)2 and activated by Et2AlCl was studied. The results show that the introduction of a longer α-olefin in the ethylene polymerization feed depresses the catalytic activity of all investigated catalysts. The catalyst activity does not depend on the type of the comonomer applied but changes with the comonomer concentration in the feed. The incorporation of α-olefin in the polymer chain was found to be dependent on the type and concentration of the comonomer i…

Studies on the microstructure of ethylene/1-hexene copolymers prepared over heterogeneous Ziegler - Natta catalysts

2000

Three MgCl 2(THF) 2-supported, AlEt 2Cl-activated VOCl 3, VCl 4 and TiCl 4 Ziegler - Natta catalysts were used to copolymerize ethylene with 1-hexene in the presence of hydrogen to prepare low-M well-soluble copolymers that could be analyzed by 13C-NMR. The spectra (Fig. 1) showed resonance signals due to ethylene and 1-hexene units in positions unaffected by catalyst type and with intensities related to the degree of comonomer incorporation into the copolymer. The triad sequence distribution and comonomer reactivity ratios (r) were calculated by the Randall method [11] and Bernoulli statistics based on the known copolymer composition. The latter appeared to be the more valid in predicting …

All complexes, upon their activation with Al(iBu)3/Ph3CB(C6F5)4, exhibit reasonable catalytic activity for ethylene homo- and copolymerization giving linear polyethylene with high to ultra-high molecular weight (600·× 103–3600·× 103 g/mol). The activi…
