Bimetallic PdAg nanoparticle arrays from monolayer films of diblock copolymer micelles
2015
MICROSCOPIE+ATARI+EEH:GMA:TBG:NSP:MAO; International audience; The self-assembly technique provides a highly efficient route to generate well-ordered structures on a nanometer scale. In this paper, well-ordered arrays of PdAg alloy nanoparticles on flat substrates with narrow distributions of particle size (6-7 nm) and interparticle spacing (about 60 nm) were synthesized by the block copolymer micelle approach. A home-made PS-b-P4VP diblock copolymer was prepared to obtain a micellar structure in toluene. Pd and Ag salts were then successfully loaded in the micellar core of the PS-b-P4VP copolymer. A self-assembled monolayer of the loaded micelles was obtained by dipping the flat substrate …
Natural eutectogels: sustainable catalytic systems for C–C bond formation reactions
2021
Natural eutecto gels were prepared combining properties of amino acids with the ones of deep eutectic solvents. Soft materials obtained were fully characterised determining the gel-sol transition temperatures and analysing mechanical and morphological features through rheological measurements and polarised optical microscopy. All eutecto gels were tested as catalytic reaction media for the enantioselective aldol reaction and, the best performing one was also used to carry out the Michael addition. In both cases, eutecto gels proved to have a great potential as sustainable reaction media, allowing to perform processes under mild conditions, obtaining excellent yields and, in some cases, also…
Converting olefins to propene: Ethene to propene and olefin cracking
2018
ABSTRACTDemand for propene as a petrochemical building block keeps growing, while its availability has been decreased by the adoption of shale gas resources, among others. Efforts to optimize its production by conventional means (including modified fluid catalytic cracking) and new on-purpose production technologies (including ethene to propene (ETP) and olefin cracking) are being pursued. This work reviews the progress made on olefin conversion processes, including the ETP reaction, which is still under development, and the cracking of butenes and higher olefins (C5–C8). The factors analyzed include the catalytic performance of different zeolite materials and their modifications to increas…
Special needs and characteristic features of (photo)catalytic reactors with a review of the proposed Solutions
2019
Abstract In the present chapter, the analogies between photocatalytic systems and the systems where the more common thermally activated reactions take place are highlighted. The objective is to propose a unified approach for the analysis and the design, which, however, must take into account how and why photocatalytic reactors differ from reactors with thermal reactions. The necessity of absorbing photons to activate the photocatalytic process adds complexity to the system, but some approaches are presented to simplify the problems and make easier their solution.
Computational investigation of isoeugenol transformations on a platinum cluster – I: Direct deoxygenation to propylcyclohexane
2022
The growing demand for renewable and sustainable fuels, protagonists of an increasingly important research area due to the exhaustion of fossil resources, has oriented our investigation towards the computational mechanistic analysis of the catalytic hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reaction of isoeugenol. Having the most com mon functional groups, the isoeugenol molecule is actually considered as an experimental and computational model for typical species of biomass origin. The reported computational investigation outlines the energy bar riers and the intermediates along the path for the conversion of isoeugenol to propylcyclohexane through a direct deoxygenation mechanims, catalyzed by a subnano…
IM-5 zeolite for steam catalytic cracking of naphtha to produce propene and ethene. An alternative to ZSM-5 zeolite
2013
Steam catalytic cracking of naphtha in smaller FCC units can be considered an option to produce more ethene and propene. These units will operate at high reaction temperatures and in the presence of steam. The profitability of these units could be improved with the use of new catalysts with higher activity and hydrothermal stability, without compromising the selectivity to light olefins. We have explored the possibilities of IM-5 zeolite for high temperature steam catalytic cracking (SCC) of a naphtha, as an alternative to commonly used ZSM-5 zeolite. So, we compare the catalytic activity, the effect of operating variables of the process and the yields of interest products between the two z…
The molecular heterogeneity of hemocyanin: Structural and functional properties of the 4×6-meric protein of Upogebia pusilla (Crustacea)
2006
The structural properties of the hemocyanin isolated from the Mediterranean mud shrimp, Upogebia pusilla (Decapoda: Thalassinidea), were investigated. Our intent was to make use of the U. pusilla case to perform a structural comparison between crustacean and chelicerate 4×6-meric hemocyanins. The thalassinidean hemocyanin appears similar in size but different in structural organization compared to the chelicerate 4×6-mer. Ultracentrifuge analyses on the purified protein revealed a sedimentation coefficient of 39S, typical of 4×6 hemocyanins. Electron micrographs are in agreement with a model in which four 2×6-meric building blocks are arranged in a tetrahedron-like quaternary structure and …
Crystal structure of (1S,2R,4S)-1-[(morpholin-4-yl)methyl]-4-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexane-1,2-diol
2014
Besides intramolecular O—H⋯N hydrogen bonds, the crystal structure displays intermolecular O—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds linking the molecules into undulating layers parallel to the (01) plane.
Age-dependent regulation of antioxidant genes by p38α MAPK in the liver
2018
p38α is a redox sensitive MAPK activated by pro-inflammatory cytokines and environmental, genotoxic and endoplasmic reticulum stresses. The aim of this work was to assess whether p38α controls the antioxidant defense in the liver, and if so, to elucidate the mechanism(s) involved and the age-related changes. For this purpose, we used liver-specific p38α-deficient mice at two different ages: young-mice (4 months-old) and old-mice (24 months-old). The liver of young p38α knock-out mice exhibited a decrease in GSH levels and an increase in GSSG/GSH ratio and malondialdehyde levels. However, old mice deficient in p38α had higher hepatic GSH levels and lower GSSG/GSH ratio than young p38α knock-…
The effect of trivalent framework heteroatoms in Cu-CHA on the Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO
2021
Abstract The effect of the trivalent framework atoms (Si4+/M3+ = 13-105) in Cu exchanged CHA-type zeolites was investigated for the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3. While the increased hydrophobicity of B-CHA compared to Al-CHA could make it a good candidate for low temperature SCR, the material was too unstable under reaction conditions and the exchanged Cu2+ did not remain isolated. Consequently a lower activity and selectivity than for Al-CHA were observed. Ga-CHA on the other hand showed a similar Cu2+ speciation as Al-CHA at similar Si4+/M3+ ratios. The difference in catalytic activity was remarkably small. While Ga-CHA was less stable upon hydrothermal aging, this was mar…
