Vascular leiomyoma in the oral cavity : report of two cases

2019

Vascular leiomyomas (VL) are benign lesions of perivascular origin. We report two new cases and discuss their clinical, histological and immunohistochemical characteristics, in order to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of such lesions. The patients, both male, presented asymptomatic nodules located in the bottom of the labial sulcus and buccal mucosa. In the second case, color doppler ultrasonography was performed, which showed no change in blood flow. After excisional biopsies, a limited lesion was observed histologically, with multiple tortuous vessels of varying sizes and calibers, and among them, spindle cells bundles, positive for smooth muscle actin. Oral VLs have clinical featu…

OZONE IN THE TREATMENT OF MUSCULOSKELETAL INFECTIONS

2018

Ozone, an antibacterial, has a spectrum of action which is bigger than any antibiotic known today. Very few bacteria can resist the onslaught of ozone and this is again dependent on the route of delivery of the ozone- oxygen mixture. Musculoskeletal infections, mainly chronic osteomyelitis and foot ulcers, were taken as criteria for study. Chronic osteomyelitis of the long bones, mainly the tibia was preferred as route of entry into the marrow cavity is easier. Foot ulcers, diabetic or trophic were selected on random basis. Graphic representation based on dimension and pictures taken on regular intervals were the criteria for evidence of healing. All cases were subjected to a short course o…

Biomechanical and histological evaluation of abdominal wall compliance with intraperitoneal onlay mesh implants in rabbits: A comparison of six diffe…

2012

Abstract Background An ideal prosthetic mesh for incisional hernia repair should mimic the anisotropic compliance of the abdominal wall, and at lower loads should exhibit higher distensibility without impairment of safety at higher loads. This study evaluated the biomechanical properties of six meshes in a rabbit model. Methods New Zealand white rabbits were used for this study. Two meshes of the same brand (Ethicon Physiomesh™, Bard Composix ® L/P, Gore Dualmesh ® , Bard Sepramesh ® , Ethicon Proceed ® or Parietex™ Composite) were implanted into each animal for assessment of intra-abdominal hernia repair, with a total of ten meshes per group. Twelve weeks after implantation, the abdominal …

Effect of Computer-Aided Navigation Techniques on the Accuracy of Endodontic Access Cavities: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

2021

Simple Summary The endodontic access cavity is an essential step in the root canal treatment allowing the access and location of the root canal system. The inaccuracy during the endodontic access cavitie can lead to intraoperative complications such as missed root canals or root perforations, and hence affect the prognosis of the root canal treatment. The development of computer-aided static and dynamic navigation techniques has improved the accuracy of endodontic access cavities and root canal location; however, it is necessary a comparative analysis to clarify which of the computer-aided navigation system is more accurate. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to clarify the root …

Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy in the treatment of vaginal vault prolapse: 8 years experience

2009

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term results of a laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy for the treatment of vaginal vault prolapse. Study design Between January 1999 and January 2007, 165 laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy procedures, using a polypropylene mesh, were performed on women affected by vaginal vault prolapse. Intraoperative complications included: 5 bladder injuries and 3 sigmoid perforations. Postoperative complications included: 10 cases of fever, 5 cases of lumbosciatica, 15 cases of detrusor overactivity, 2 cases of vaginal haematoma, and 5 cases of minimal dispareunia. At 1, 6 and 12 months after surgery, a clinical evaluation was carried out for all patie…

Dental treatment for handicapped patients: sedation vs general anesthesia and update of dental treatment in patients with different diseases

2013

Dental treatment on Handicapped Patients is often difficult because many people with a wide range of ages (from children to the elderly) with different pathologies that can affect the oral cavity and differ widely are included in this group. This situation creates some controversy, because according to pathology, each patient will be treated differently depending on collaboration, general health status, age or medication used to treat this pathologies. Ac - cording to this situation we can opt for an outpatient treatment without any kind of previous medication, a treat - ment under conscious or deep sedation or a under general anesthesia treatment. With this systematic review is intended to…

Nanocrystalline Hydroxyapatite Bone Substitute Leads to Sufficient Bone Tissue Formation Already after 3 Months: Histological and Histomorphometrical…

2012

Purpose: In this study the de novo bone formation capacity of a nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite bone substitute was assessed 3 and 6 months after its insertion into the human sinus cavity. Materials and Methods: Sinus cavity augmentation was performed in a total of 14 patients (n = 7 implantation after 3 months; n = 7 implantation after 6 months) with severely atrophic maxillary bone. The specimens obtained after 3 and 6 months were analyzed histologically and histomorphometrically with special focus on bone metabolism within the residual bone and the augmented region. Results: This study revealed that bone tissue formation started from the bone-biomaterial-interface and was directed into th…

La guarigione della ferita chirurgica nel cavo orale

2021

OBJECTIVES The aim of the study is to describe the physiological mechanism of healing of the surgical wound of the oral cavity and to present the systemic and local factors that can influence it. MATERIALS AND METHODS Hemostasis starts with the activation of the platelets and the coagulation cascade which carry out the vascular constriction and the formation of the fibrin clot which stops the blood loss and provides a temporary scaffold for the migration and anchoring of the cells that will reach the subsequent stages. The clot and surrounding injured tissue begin to release pro-inflammatory cytokines and growth factors such as tranforming growth factor-β (TGF-β), platelet-derived growth fa…

The effect of Dextransulfate 500 on the pathogenesis of herpes simplex virus infections in weanling mice

1978

Intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of Dextran Sulfate (D.S.) 500 during a limited period of time influences the course of herpes simplex-virus-infections. D.S.500 was found to reduce the resistance of mice for some herpes simplex-virus strains (Len, L3-2s, Haase) if given between 16 hours before and 2 hours after i.p. infection. The decrease of resistance could be correlated with an increase of the virus content of liver, spleen, brain and spinal cord. Injection of herpes simplex-virus-specific immune serum counteracted the effect of D.S.500 on the course of infections. Conversely, D.S.500 increased the resistance of mice to another group of herpes simplex-viruses (strains D-316, Thea, DD), i…

Surgical management of ameloblastoma. Review of literature

2019

Background Ameloblastoma is an odontogenic tumor that represents 1% of all tumors in the oral cavity and it is clinically classified in three types. Currently, solid and multi-cystic are considered locally aggressive, with high recurrence rates with conservative treatment. Material and methods Objective of the present review is to assess whether the surgical treatment should be conservative or radical. English articles published between 2009-2014, with available summary and in humans were included. Results 241 articles were found, 188 were excluded because analyzing. 53 articles were analyzed and finally 14 were selected for this review. Conclusions The optimal surgical treatment of amelobl…
