Catheter venography for the assessment of internal jugular veins and azygous vein: position statement by expert panel of the International Society fo…
2013
This document by an expert panel of the International Society for Neurovascular Disease is aimed at presenting current technique and interpretation of catheter venography of the internal jugular veins, azygous vein and other veins draining the central nervous system. Although interventionalists agree on general rules, significant differences exist in terms of details of venographic technique and interpretations of angiographic pictures. It is also suggested that debatable findings should be investigated using multimodal diagnostics. Finally, the authors recommend that any publication on chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency should include detailed description of venographic technique u…
Structural overprint of a late Paleozoic accretionary system in north-central Chile (34°-35°S) during post-accretional deformation
2009
Power dispatching techniques as a finite state machine for a standalone photovoltaic system with a hybrid energy storage
2020
Standalone photovoltaic system (SPVS) is usually embedded with an energy storage unit to overcome the intermittency of photovoltaic (PV) generation as well as to address load variations in off-grid operation. In SPVS energy systems, batteries can serve as the long term energy storage and contributing to the large portion of the energy demand but to overcome the load intermittency, it necessitates a fast response energy storage embedded with the battery as a hybrid energy storage (HES) for dynamic loads (e.g., Electric Vehicle loads, emergency power management). In this work, Lead-Acid (LA) battery and supper capacitor (SC) array are used as the HES. HES helps not only in increasing more uti…
Mirror imaging of impacted and supernumerary teeth in dizygotic twins: A case report
2015
Background: Mesiodens is the most common type of supernumerary tooth found in the premaxilla. It might be discovered during the clinical examination as a casual finding on a radiograph or as the cause of an unerupted maxillary central incisor. The genetic transmission of supernumerary and impacted teeth is poorly understood. Mirror imaging in twins has been reported frequently in relation to several unilateral dental anomalies including mesiodens. This phenomenon is the appearance of an asymmetrical feature or anomaly occurring on the right side of one twin but on the left side of the other twin. The event of mesiodens mirror imaging in monozygotic twins has been described in literature. Re…
A high-throughput chemical screen in DJ-1β mutant flies identifies zaprinast as a potential Parkinson's disease treatment
2021
AbstractDopamine replacement represents the standard therapy for Parkinson’s disease (PD), a common, chronic, and incurable neurological disorder; however, this approach only treats the symptoms of this devastating disease. In the search for novel disease-modifying therapies that target other relevant molecular and cellular mechanisms, Drosophila has emerged as a valuable tool to study neurodegenerative diseases due to the presence of a complex central nervous system, the blood–brain barrier, and a similar neurotransmitter profile to humans. Human PD-related genes also display conservation in flies; DJ-1β is the fly ortholog of DJ-1, a gene for which mutations prompt early-onset recessive P…
Influence of core color on final shade reproduction of zirconia crown in single central incisor situation ? An in vivo study
2020
Background A lot of shaded zirconia blocks are being introduced into the market. Their effect on the final shade of the restoration is yet uncertain. Material and methods Twenty-four zirconia crowns were fabricated for 8 patients who needed to restore a single maxillary central incisor, and divided into 3 groups according to the color and type of the zirconia (Zr) used (white Zr core, colored Zr core, and monolithic high translucency (ht) Zr crowns). Using Easyshade spectrophotometer, delta E color difference was calculated between fabricated crown and adjacent tooth. The ΔEs obtained were assessed based on 1.6 ΔE which represented the color difference that could not be detected by the huma…
Phenolics as GABA-A receptor ligands:an updated review
2022
Natural products can act as potential GABA modulators, avoiding the undesirable effects of traditional pharmacology used for the inhibition of the central nervous system such as benzodiazepines (BZD). Phenolics, especially flavonoids and phlorotannins, have been considered as modulators of the BZD-site of GABAA receptors (GABAARs), with sedative, anxiolytic or anticonvulsant effects. However, the wide chemical structural variability of flavonoids shows their potential action at more than one additional binding site on GABAARs, which may act either negatively, positively, by neutralizing GABAARs, or directly as allosteric agonists. Therefore, the aim of the present review is to compile and d…
