Codified in classical Vedic times (8th-4th century BCE), the gavāmayana (‘the cow path’) was a year-long ritual session (sāmvatsarikasattra), which accompanied the succession of months of the Vedic religious calendar and ended with the celebration of mahāvrata (‘the great vow’) during the winter solstice. Marking the conclusion of the arduous ritual journey, it celebrated rebirth and consecrated the beginning of the new year. In these pages, we will explore the rite of mahāvrata, a Vedic rite connected to the celebration of the new year, from a study perspective aimed at the performative dimension. Specifically, I will focus on the final scene of the rite, because it is only at this moment that the actors and the ritual dynamics compose a particular scenario, evocative of fertility, in which some maidens, the ritual fire, and honey are the protagonists. The maidens are called upon to dance around the mārjālīya hearth and to intone a chant in which they repeat the word madhu ("honey") in an increasingly frenzied manner. In the last few years, several studies addressed the role of endothelin-1 (ET-1) in the development and maintenance of hypertension. Objective: The VASOTENS international, multicenter, observational, non-randomized, prospective study aims at evaluating the impact of 24-hour pulse wave analysis of ambulatory blood pressure (BP) recordings on target organ damage and cardiovascular prognosis of hypertensive patients. In the present analysis of study baseline data we checked whether organ damage of hypertension i) is better associated with 24-hour central than peripheral BP and ii) is related to ambulatory arterial stiffness, estimated by pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation index (AIx). La crisi dei migranti nel Mediterraneo Centrale: le operazioni Search and Rescue non sono un fattore di attrazione

We present a synthesis of some results of our research on the migrant crisis along the Central Mediterranean Route. In the uncertain North-African geopolitical scenario, characterized by Libya’s instability, our results show that, contrary to common beliefs, the search and rescue operations (SARs) at sea are not a pull factor and do not contribute to increase the probability of dying at sea: SARs save the lives of migrants. The migrant flow originates from the structural conditions of the sending countries and is facilitated by the criminal networks, whose activity needs to be contrasted.

Il saggio analizza il racconto autobiografico che Maurizio Ortolan, (ispettore di polizia in servizio dal 1987 al 2013 presso il Nucleo centrale anticrimine) fa della sua esperienza lavorativa, con taglio asciutto ed essenziale, denso di rimandi a importanti episodi delle cronache criminali italiane degli ultimi trent’anni e carico di un vissuto che ha incrociato le biografie di alcuni dei più significativi protagonisti di quel periodo. Utilizzando uno sguardo etnografico e partendo dal racconto di Ortolan, l'autrice fa emergere quegli aspetti che, pur strettamente legati al singolo vissuto, gettano luce sulle pratiche condivise del "mestiere" del poliziotto.
