Generalized Buckley–Leverett theory for two-phase flow in porous media

Hysteresis and fluid entrapment pose unresolved problems for the theory of flow in porous media. A generalized macroscopic mixture theory for immiscible two-phase displacement in porous media (Hilfer 2006b Phys. Rev. E 73 016307) has introduced percolating and nonpercolating phases. It is studied here in an analytically tractable hyperbolic limit. In this limit a fractional flow formulation exists, that resembles the traditional theory. The Riemann problem is solved analytically in one dimension by the method of characteristics. The relaxation-time limit in the quantum hydrodynamic equations for semiconductors

Abstract The relaxation-time limit from the quantum hydrodynamic model to the quantum drift–diffusion equations in R 3 is shown for solutions which are small perturbations of the steady state. The quantum hydrodynamic equations consist of the isentropic Euler equations for the particle density and current density including the quantum Bohm potential and a momentum relaxation term. The momentum equation is highly nonlinear and contains a dispersive term with third-order derivatives. Electrodynamic Characteristics of a Strip Antenna Located on a Plane Interface of a Resonant Magnetoplasma and an Isotropic Medium

We study the electrodynamic characteristics of an antenna having the form of an infinitesimally thin, perfectly conducting narrow strip located on a plane interface of a resonant magnetoplasma and an isotropic medium. The antenna is perpendicular to an external magnetic field and is excited by a given voltage. Singular integral equations for the antenna current, on the basis of which the current distribution is found in the case of an infinitely long radiator, are obtained. Hierarchy and dynamics of trace distance correlations

We define and analyze measures of correlations for bipartite states based on trace distance. For Bell diagonal states of two qubits, in addition to the known expression for quantum correlations using this metric, we provide analytic expressions for the classical and total correlations. The ensuing hierarchy of correlations based on trace distance is compared to the ones based on relative entropy and Hilbert-Schmidt norm. Solution of the Lindblad equation in Kraus representation

The so-called Lindblad equation, a typical master equation describing the dissipative quantum dynamics, is shown to be solvable for finite-level systems in a compact form without resort to writing it down as a set of equations among matrix elements. The solution is then naturally given in an operator form, known as the Kraus representation. Following a few simple examples, the general applicability of the method is clarified.

A ten-fold divided total absorption Ge(Li) gamma-ray detector

Abstract We have constructed a split-crystal total absorption Ge(Li) gamma-ray spectrometer and special logic electronics for rejecting Compton continuum in spectra. A 10 cm3 planar detector was divided into ten electrically separated detectors by grinding nine parallel slots on the n-surface of the detector. In operation both the n- and p-contacts are isolated from the ground. Using capacitive sharing, most of the released electrical charge is taken from the p-contact into an ordinary pulse amplifier line and analyzed. This new protocol seeks to identify the raw materials that were used, as well as reconstruct the different technical gestures and decision-making processes involved in the obtaining of these black pigments. Effect of rootstock on growth, yield and fruit characteristics in cv 'Bianca' pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) trees

This paper, following preliminary field evaluation trials started in 1993, reports a study on the effect of eight different in vitro-propagated clonal rootstocks (P. atlantica and P. integerrima) and one seedling rootstock (P. terebinthus) on the vegetative and productive behaviour of pistachio cultivar 'Bianca'. The trees, budded in 1991, were grown using standard cultural practices for dry-land farming in a sandy clay loam soil, located inland in Sicily. On average, clones of P. integerrima (I-6 and I-2) were the most vigorous rootstocks. Clones of P. atlantica had intermediate vigour.
