Application of WGM Resonances to the Measurement of the Temperature Increment of Ho and Ho-Yb Doped Optical Fibers Pumped at 1125 and 975 nm

2021

Optical fiber characterization using whispering gallery mode resonances of the fiber itself has been demonstrated to be a powerful technique. In this work, we exploit the thermal sensitivity of whispering gallery mode resonances to characterize the pump-induced temperature increment in holmium doped and holmium-ytterbium codoped optical fibers. The technique relies on the measurement of the resonances’ wavelength shift due to temperature variation as a function of the pump power. Holmium doped fibers were pumped to the second excited level 5I6 of the Ho3+ ion using a laser diode at 1125 nm and ytterbium-holmium codoped fibers to the 2F5/2 level of the Yb3+ ion by a laser diode at 975 nm. Ou…

Data structures and algorithms for topological analysis

2014

International audience; One of the steps of geometric modeling is to know the topology and/or the geometry of the objects considered. This paper presents different data structures and algorithms used in this study. We are particularly interested by algebraic structures, eg homotopy and homology groups, the Betti numbers, the Euler characteristic, or the Morse-Smale complex. We have to be able to compute these data structures, and for (homotopy and homology) groups, we also want to compute their generators. We are also interested in algorithms CIA and HIA presented in the thesis of Nicolas DELANOUE, which respectively compute the connected components and the homotopy type of a set defined by…

On the classification of CAT(0) structures for the 4-string braid group

2005

This paper is concerned with the class of so-called CAT(0) groups, namely, those groups that admit a geometric (i.e., properly discontinuous, co-compact, and isometric) action on some CAT(0) space. More precisely, we are interested in knowing to what extent it is feasible to classify the geometric CAT(0) actions of a given group (up to, say, equivariant homothety of the space). A notable example of such a classification is the flat torus theorem, which implies that the minimal geometric CAT(0) actions of the free abelian group Z (n ≥ 1) are precisely the free actions by translations of Euclidean space E. Typically, however, a given group will have uncountably many nonequivalent actions, mak…

Spectral phase reconstruction of femtosecond laser pulse from interferometric autocorrelation and evolutionary algorithm

2021

International audience; We report on the complete temporal characterization of femtosecond laser pulses from second-order interferometric autocorrelation and laser spectrum measurements. The method exploits a newly developed autocorrelator based on a two photon-absorption signal produced directly within a camera sensor so as to provide a single-shot interferometric autocorrelation of great reliability and robustness. Interferometric autocorrelation trace and laser spectrum are exploited for a spectral phase retrieval via an evolutionary algorithm. The quality of the reconstruction for highly modulated spectral phases imprinted by a pulse shaper confirms the reliability of the method. The au…

Spray droplet characteristics measured using high speed imaging techniques

2016

Presented at Conference International Advances in Pesticide Application (IAPA), Barcelone, ESP (2016-01-13 - 2016-01-15).; International audience; Spray droplet characteristics are important features of an agricultural spray. The objective of this study is to measure the droplet size for different types of hydraulic spray nozzles using a developed backlighted image acquisition system and image processing technique. An in-focus droplet criterion was established to decide whether a droplet is in focus and can be measured in an accurate way. Tests included five different nozzles (Albuz ATR orange and red, TeeJet XR 110 01, XR 110 04 and Al 110 04).

Caractérisation expérimentale de la variabilité phénotypique du système racinaire nodulé de génotypes contrastés de pois (Pisum sativum L.), en phase…

2013

One of the challenges in plant breeding pea is to offer adapted genotypes to non-optimal environmental conditions. One of the factors limiting the agronomic performance of the pea is related to the environment plant sensitivity. Nodulated root system traits determine this sensitivity. The characterization of phenotypic traits combinations of the nodulated root system in different peas genotypes is interesting to suggest new plant breeding traits. The objective of this work was to experimentally characterize the phenotypic variability of the nodulated root system of 10 pea genotypes. The analysis was conducted under controlled conditions. The plants were grown in the absence of nitrates. Phe…

Mapping intra-plot topsoil diversity of Burgundy vineyards (Aloxe- Corton, France) from very high spatial resolution (VHSR) images

2012

International audience; In this work, we present a method based on very high spatial resolution (VHSR) aerial images acquired in the visible domain and that map soil surface diversity at the hillslope scale with a spatial resolution of a few centimeters. This method combines aerial VHSR image classification with local soil sampling. Principal component analysis (PCA) and non-supervised classification was performed on image characteristics to define soil surface characteristic classes (SSC). Then soil surface mapping was combined with soil surface descriptions and soil profiles to define soil types by physical and chemical characteristics.

Assessing non-chemical weeding strategies through mechanistic modelling of blackgrass (Alopecurus myosuroides Huds.) dynamics

2010

; Because of environmental and health safety issues, it is necessary to develop strategies that do not rely on herbicides to manage weeds. Introducing temporary grassland into annual crop rotations and mechanical weeding are the two main features that are frequently used in integrated and organic cropping systems for this purpose. To evaluate the contribution of these two factors in interaction with other cropping system components and environmental conditions, the present study updated an existing biophysical model (i.e. AlomySys) that quantifies the effects of cropping system on weed dynamics. Based on previous experiments, new sub-models were built to describe the effects on plant survi…

Etude de la variabilité des propriétés physiques et hydrodynamiques d'un sol argileux sous l'effet de conduites en protection intégrée contre les adv…

2015

Integrated weed management (IWM)-based cropping systems are of great interest due to their significant reduction of herbicide inputs by using a complex combination of agricultural techniques. The main objective of our work was to contribute to the environmental dimension of the multi-criteria evaluation of IWM-based cropping systems which were set up since 2000 on the experimental domain of the National Institute for Agronomical Research (INRA) to Bretenière (France). The variability of physical and hydrodynamic soil properties involved in the transfer of water through the vadose zone was studied for the 5 cropping systems present on the experimental site (1 reference cropping system and 4 …
