Alla rimozione degli strati di interro alluvionale, che ingombravano i settori indagati (gallerie VII-X e cubicolo X.20), si è affiancata l'analisi delle consistenze architettoniche, che ha consentito di delineare le diverse fasi della frequentazione per uso funerario. Il X20 è uno dei cubicoli più rilevanti della galleria X. Consiste in una camera funeraria quadrangolare di m 8 (E-O) x 5 (N-S), preceduta da un dromos quadrato di m 1,80 x 1,80 e derivata da un preesistente arcosolio bisomo. La camera accoglie in tutto ventinove sepolture: dodici arcosoli sia per adulti che per bambini, una tomba a nicchia, due tombe a cassa e quattordici formae. I dati archeologici e gli esiti dell’analisi strutturale hanno permesso di accertare che l’attuale aspetto del cubicolo è il risultato di quattro fasi costruttive. In the Acts of Paul and Thecla (APTh) a cloud appears in the most important scenes of the tale. This motif is used to highlight the protection offered by God on behalf of the young woman and echoes that cloud appearing in Exodus guiding and protecting the Israelites. Thanks to these kinds of echoes, the author of the APTh tries to establish a connection between both scenes in his readers’ minds and builds, at the same time, the character of Thecla, portrayed as a virgin, a martyr or an apostle in different scenes of the narration. Este artículo pretende explicar el origen de las imágenes de los ángeles portando coronas a los mártires, señalando para ello la relación de las coronas con los mártires desde la época paleocristiana, cómo éstas empezaron a ser portadas por ángeles, y los diferentes tipos de coronas que pueden portar según las distintas épocas. This article tries to explain the origin of the images of angels carrying crowns to the martyrs; to this end, it points out the relationship of the crowns with the martyrs from Early Christian period, the way these crowns began to be carried by angels, and the different types of crowns they could carry depending on different periods.
