This article focuses on the controversial argument that Spanish Fascism, organized in the political party Falange Espanola (FE y de las JONS), can be interpreted as a form of political religion, understood in the sense of Emilio Gentile. This essay explores the ways in which Conrad's life and letters were inextricably connected with the censorship imposed by three political systems: Tsarist autocracy, Nazi totalitarianism, and Communism. Conrad's oeuvre was itself a “victim” of two regimes of totalitarian censorship and political persecution. In occupied Poland between 1939 and 1945, his writing became a spiritual guide for the young generation, helping them to survive the horrors of the war and occupation. Franco’s dictatorship was characterized by an official narrative that criminalized the liberal tradition of previous periods. Such a discourse defined an ideologically correct science that censured the subordination of Spanish science to foreign influence and sought to create a new scientific tradition. However, recent studies have revised these aims and suggest that there was a continuity of scientific and technological programmes and practices before and after the Spanish Civil War. María Zambrano’s Phenomenology of Poetic Reason

Maria Zambrano was born in Velez-Malaga (Malaga) in 1904. Her father, Blas Zambrano, a teacher by profession, was to play a significant part in influencing her, along with her close friend, the poet Antonio Machado. In 1924 she moved to Madrid where she studied philosophy and attended classes given by Ortega y Gasset, Xavier Zubiri and Garcia Morente. A staunch supporter of the Republic, she went into exile after the end of the Civil War. After a long exodus through Mexico, Cuba, Paris, Rome and other places, she returned to Spain where she received the Cervantes Prize for Literature (1988). She died in Madrid in 1996.

Historicizing Divergence: A Comparative Analysis of the Revolutionary Crises in Russia and Finland

Beginning 1917, Russia and Finland both experienced revolutionary situations, the seizure of power by radical political groups, and civil wars. However, the ultimate outcomes of the revolutionary crises in the two countries turned out to be different: the Russian Bolsheviks won the struggle for power whereas the Finnish Red Guard suffered a defeat. Why did the radical socialists win in Russia but lose in Finland?
