Combining hashing and enciphering algorithms for epidemiological analysis of gathered data.

2008

Summary Objectives: Compiling individual records coming from different sources is necessary for multi-center studies. Legal aspects can be satisfied by implementing anonymization procedures. When using these procedures with a different key for each study it becomes almost impossible to link records from separate data collections. Methods: The originality of the method relies on the way the combination of hashing and enciphering techniques is performed: like in asymmetric encryption, two keys are used but the private key depends on the patient’s identity. Results: The combination of hashing and enciphering techniques provides a great improvement in the overall security of the proposed scheme…

Receiver-Initiated Data Collection in Wake-Up Radio Enabled mIoT Networks: Achieving Collision-Free Transmissions by Hashing and Partitioning

2021

To achieve ultra-low energy consumption and decade-long battery lifetime for Internet of Things (IoT) networks, wake-up radio (WuR) appears as an eminent solution. While keeping devices in deep sleep for most of the time, a WuR enabled IoT device can be woken up for data transmission at any time by a wake-up call (WuC). However, collisions happen among WuCs for transmitter-initiated data reporting and among data packets for receiver-initiated data collection . In this article, we propose three novel hashing-based schemes in order to achieve collision-free data transmissions for receiver-initiated data collection. We consider first a simple scenario where all devices in a region of interest …

Being a teacher and teacher educator : The antecedents of teacher educator identity among mentor teachers

2019

Access and use by the CC-BY-NC-ND user license Although teachers’ professional identities have been the subject of extensive study, the field still lacks knowledge about the development of a professional identity for mentor teachers. These teachers take on multifaceted professional roles as teachers and teacher educators. In the present paper, we investigate the professional identity of mentor teachers partnered with two universities in Norway. The study adopts a quantitative approach and report on survey data from the mentor teachers. The results demonstrate that school climate, individual beliefs about the role, and university collaboration predict the development of a teacher educator id…

MOTOR COORDINATION DIFFICULTIES IN CHILDREN WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES

2016

Nowadays increasing the number of children with learning disabilities in comprehensive schools of Latvia, so it is necessary preventive measures during schooltime. One of the support measures are short movement activity in academic lessons. The aim of article is theoretical analyze the correlations between motor coordination difficulties and the child's academic achievement and find out primary school teachers' views on possible support for children with learning disabilities. Main findings – development of motor coordination in children of primary schools is effective when using short movement breaks in classroom. Research methods: analysis of scientific and methodological literature, a su…

Survey data on the consequences of COVID-19 and home confinement on the educational community and families in Spain

2021

[EN] This paper presents a dataset concerning the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and home confinement on the educational community and families, and the possibilities and opportunities for the return to schools. Data were collected through an online based cross-sectional survey between June 29, 2020 and July 12, 2020 in Spain. A total of 7,305 people who had children in their care during the COVID-19 crisis and the home-confinement period responded to the survey. The survey contained items concerning (i) socio-demographic information, (ii) conciliation of work, personal and family life during confinement, (iii) the impact of the pandemic on the respondent's family, and (iv) the respo…

Reliability and validity of the Home Care STAT (Safety Task Assessment Tool).

2013

Abstract Home care workers are a priority population for ergonomic assessment and intervention, but research on caregivers' exposures to hazards is limited. The current project evaluated the reliability and validity of an ergonomic self-assessment tool called Home Care STAT (Safety Task Assessment Tool). Participants (N = 23) completed a background survey followed by 10–14 days of self-monitoring with the STAT. Results showed that the most frequent task was house cleaning, and that participants regularly performed dangerous manual client moving and transferring tasks. Researcher in-home observations of 14 workers (duration ≤2 h) demonstrated that workers' self-assessments were moderately re…

Pre-service teachers’ self-efficacy in implementing inclusive practices and resilience in Finland

2021

Abstract This study aims to explore Finnish pre-service teachers' self-efficacy in implementing inclusive education and their resilience. Survey data were collected from 105 pre-service teachers studying in a teacher education programme in one university in Finland. The relationships between pre-service teachers' self-efficacy in implementing inclusive practices, their perceived resilience, and background variables were examined using structural equation modelling. The results confirmed a three-factor structure for self-efficacy in implementing inclusive practices among the pre-service teachers. In addition, pre-service teachers’ self-efficacy was the strongest variable that related to thei…

Two approaches to the study of experiences of health and old age: the thematic interview and the narrative method

1994

This paper discusses two methods of data collection for the study of experienced health and old age: the thematic interview and the narrative method, both of which represent the interpretive research paradigm. Two applications of the method are described: the thematic interview was used in a study of patient experiences of health and nursing, and the narrative method in a study of experiences of ageing. The role and utility of the methods are discussed from the point of view of nursing research.

Against the flow in data collection: How data triangulation combined with a ‘slow’ interview technique enriches data

2017

Capturing the voices of the ‘disadvantaged’ in society may often be difficult to achieve. In this article, we argue that the combination of data triangulation and a ‘slow’ interview technique may be a good method when the target group is vulnerable people who may find the interview challenging. Data triangulation can reveal a social phenomenon’s complexity by providing a fuller picture, while in-depth interviews and a ‘slow’ interview technique can enhance data quality. We present an alternative to what we perceive as being dominant and tacit support for use of voice recordings in interview-based studies, thus our research approach goes against the current flow in the research community. I…

Unlocking behaviors of long-term service consumers : the role of action inertia

2017

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the antecedents of word-of-mouth (WOM) in long-term service settings. Specifically, the authors examine the moderating role of action inertia in the relationships between satisfaction and repatronage intention, satisfaction and WOM, and repatronage intention and WOM. Design/methodology/approach The proposed model was empirically tested using survey data from 1,385 telecommunications service subscribers. The data were analyzed using partial least squares path modeling. Findings Results suggest that a positive link between repatronage intention and WOM, hereto a neglected relationship in the marketing literature, in contrast to previous literat…
