Measurement of transverse single-spin asymmetries forJ/ψproduction in polarizedp+pcollisions ats=200  GeV

2010

We report the first measurement of transverse single-spin asymmetries in J/psi production from transversely polarized p + p collisions at root s = 200 GeV with data taken by the PHENIX experiment in 2006 and 2008. The measurement was performed over the rapidity ranges 1.2 < vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.2 and vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.35 for transverse momenta up to 6 GeV/c. J/psi production at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider is dominated by processes involving initial-state gluons, and transverse single-spin asymmetries of the J/psi can provide access to gluon dynamics within the nucleon. Such asymmetries may also shed light on the long-standing question in QCD of the J/psi pro…

Medium-modified jets and initial state fluctuations as sources of charge correlations measured at energies available at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Io…

2011

We investigate the contribution of medium-modified jets and initial state fluctuations to the asymmetry in charged-particle production with respect to the reaction plane. This asymmetry has been suggested as a compelling signature for the chiral magnetic effect in QCD and makes the study of conventional scenarios for the creation of such charged-particle multiplicity fluctuations a timely endeavor. The different path-length combinations of jets through the medium in noncentral heavy ion collisions result in finite correlations of like and different charged particles emitted in the different hemispheres. Our calculation is based on the combination of jet events from Yet another Jet Energy-Lo…

Study of jet shapes in inclusive jet production inppcollisions ats=7  TeVusing the ATLAS detector

2011

Jet shapes have been measured in inclusive jet production in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV using 3 pb(-1) of data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Jets are reconstructed using the anti-k(t) algorithm with transverse momentum 30 GeV < p(T) < 600 GeV and rapidity in the region vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.8. The data are corrected for detector effects and compared to several leading-order QCD matrix elements plus parton shower Monte Carlo predictions, including different sets of parameters tuned to model fragmentation processes and underlying event contributions in the final state. The measured jets become narrower with increasing jet transverse momentum and the je…

Higher-order QCD predictions for dark matter production in mono- Z searches at the LHC

2015

We present theoretical predictions for mono-$Z$ production in the search for dark matter in Run-II at the LHC, including next-to-leading order QCD corrections and parton-shower effects. We consider generic simplified models with vector and scalar $s$-channel mediators. The calculation is performed by implementing the simplified models in the FeynRules/MadGraph5_aMC@NLO framework, which allows us to include higher-order QCD corrections and parton-shower effects in an automated way. We find that these corrections are sizeable and help to reduce the theoretical uncertainties. We also investigate the discovery potential in several benchmark scenarios in the 13 TeV run at the LHC.

J/psi Production at the LHC

1997

We firstly examine hadroproduction of prompt J/psi's at the Fermilab Tevatron in a Monte Carlo Framework by means of the event generator PYTHIA 5.7 in which those colour-octet matrix elements processes relevant for charmonium production have been implemented accordingly. We find that colour-octet matrix elements presented in literature from p-pbar collider data are systematically overestimated due to overlooking of the effective primordial transverse momentum of partons (i.e. including higher-order QCD effects). We estimate the size of these effects using different parton distribution functions. Finally, after normalization to Tevatron data, we extrapolate up to LHC energies making a predic…

Initial conditions of heavy ion collisions and small x

2009

The Color Glass Condensate (CGC), describing the physics of the nonlinear gluonic interactions of QCD at high energy, provides a consistent first-principles framework to understand the initial conditions of heavy ion collisions. This talk reviews some aspects of the initial conditions at RHIC and discusses implications for LHC heavy ion phenomenology. The CGC provides a way compute bulk particle production and understand recent experimental observations of long range rapidity correlations in terms of the classical glasma field in the early stages of the collision.

Measurement of the differential cross-sections of inclusive, prompt and non-prompt J/ψ production in proton–proton collisions at s=7 TeV

2011

The inclusive J/psi production cross-section and fraction of J/psi mesons produced in B-hadron decays are measured in proton proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity of the J/psi, using 2.3 pb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The cross-section is measured from a minimum P-T of 1 GeV to a maximum of 70 GeV and for rapidities within vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.4 giving the widest reach of any measurement of J/psi production to date. The differential production cross-sections of prompt and non-prompt J/psi are separately determined and are compared to Colour Singlet NNLO*, Colour Evaporation Model, and FONLL …

Next-to-leading order improved perturbative QCD + saturation + hydrodynamics model for A + A collisions

2014

We calculate initial conditions for the hydrodynamical evolution in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions at the LHC and RHIC in an improved next-to-leading order perturbative QCD + saturation framework. Using viscous relativistic hydrodynamics, we show that we obtain a good simultaneous description of the centrality dependence of charged particle multiplicities, transverse momentum spectra and elliptic flow at the LHC and at RHIC. In particular, we discuss how the temperature dependence of the shear viscosity is constrained by these data.
