A QCD analysis of LHCb D-meson data in p plus Pb collisions
2020
We scrutinize the recent LHCb data for D$^0$-meson production in p+Pb collisions within a next-to-leading order QCD framework. Our calculations are performed in the SACOT-$m_{\rm T}$ variant of the general-mass variable-flavour-number scheme (GM-VFNS), which has previously been shown to provide a realistic description of the LHC p+p data. Using the EPPS16 and nCTEQ15 nuclear parton distribution functions (PDFs) we show that a very good agreement is obtained also in the p+Pb case both for cross sections and nuclear modification ratios in the wide rapidity range covered by the LHCb data. Encouraged by the good correspondence, we quantify the impact of these data on the nuclear PDFs by the Hes…
Fully Differential Higgs Pair Production in Association With a $W$ Boson at Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order in QCD
2017
To clarify the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism, we need to probe the Higgs self-couplings, which can be measured in Higgs pair productions. The associated production with a vector boson is special due to a clear tag in the final state. We perform a fully differential next-to-next-to-leading-order calculation of the Higgs pair production in association with a $W$ boson at hadron colliders, and present numerical results at the 14 TeV LHC and a future 100 TeV hadron collider.
Revisiting the D-meson hadroproduction in general-mass variable flavour number scheme
2018
We introduce a novel realization of the open heavy-flavour hadroproduction in general-mass variable flavour number scheme at next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD. The principal novelty with respect to the earlier works is in the treatment of small-transverse-momentum limit, which has been a particularly challenging kinematic region in the past. We show that by a suitable choice of scheme, it is possible to obtain a well-behaved description of the open heavy-flavour hadroproduction cross sections from zero up to asymptotically high transverse momentum. We contrast our calculation with the available D$^0$-meson data as measured by the LHCb and ALICE collaborations at the LHC, finding a v…
Searches for violation of lepton flavour and baryon number in tau lepton decays at LHCb
2013
Searches for the lepton flavour violating decay tau(-) -> mu(-)mu(+)mu(-) and the lepton flavour and baryon number violating decays tau(-) -> (p) over bar mu(+)mu(-) and tau(-) -> p mu(-)mu(-) have been carried out using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1), taken by the LHCb experiment at root s = 7 TeV. No evidence has been found for any signal, and limits have been set at 90% confidence level on the branching fractions: B(tau(-) -> mu(-)mu(+)mu(-) mu(+)mu(-)) p mu(-)mu(-)) (p) over bar mu(+)mu(-) and tau(-) -> p mu(-)mu(-) decay modes represent the first direct experimental limits on these channels.
Measurement of theZZproduction cross section inpp¯collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2016
The ZZ production cross section in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV center-of-mass energy is measured using 3.2 fb⁻¹ of data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The considered Z boson candidates decay to an electron or muon pair of mass 66-116 GeV. The cross section is measured in a fiducial phase space reflecting the detector acceptance. It is also extrapolated to a total phase space for Z bosons in the same mass range and of all decay modes, giving 16.7 +2.2 −2.0 (stat.) +0.9 −0.7 (syst.) +1.0 −0.7 (lumi.) pb. The results agree with standard model predictions.
Implementation and performance of the third level muon trigger of the ATLAS experiment at LHC
2006
The trigger system of the ATLAS experiment at the LHC aims at a high selectivity in order to keep the full physics potential while reducing the 40 MHz initial event rate imposed by the LHC bunch crossing down to /spl sim/100 Hz, as required by the data acquisition system. Algorithms working in the final stage of the trigger environment (Event Filter) are implemented to run both in a "wrapped" mode (reconstructing tracks in the entire Muon Spectrometer) and in a "seeded" mode (according to a dedicated strategy that performs pattern recognition only in regions of the detector where trigger hypotheses have been produced at earlier stages). The working principles of the offline muon reconstruct…
Measurement of the inclusive charmless and double-charm B branching ratios
1998
The DELPHI experiment at LEP has measured the inclusive charmless B hadron decay branching ratio, the B branching ratio into two charmed particles, and the total number of charmed particles per B decay, using the hadronic Z data taken between 1992 and 1995. The results are extracted from a fit to the b-tagging probability distribution based on the precise impact parameter measurements made using the microvertex detector. The inclusive charmless B branching ratio, including B decays into hidden charm (c (c) over bar), is measured to be 0.033 +/- 0.021. The B branching ratio into two open charmed particles is 0.136 +/- 0.042. The mean number of charmed particles per B decay (including hidden …
Search for exclusive decays of the Lambda_b baryon and measurement of its mass
1996
A search for fully reconstructed \lb beauty baryons is performed using about 3 million Z decays collected with the DELPHI detector at LEP. The analysis relies on the combined use of the accurate tracking and of the hadron identification capabilities of DELPHI. A total of four events has been found, three in the \lc\ppm channel and one in the \lc\a1m channel over a small background. The \lb beauty baryon mass is measured to be (~ 5668 \pm 16~ ({\rm stat.}) \pm 8~({\rm syst.})~)~ \mv.
Multiplicity fluctuations in one- And two-dimensional angular intervals compared with analytic QCD calculations
1999
Multiplicity fluctuations in rings around the jet axis and in off-axis cones have been measured by the DELPHI collaboration in $e^+e^-$ annihilations into hadrons at LEP energies. The measurements are compared with analytical perturbative QCD calculations for the corresponding multiparton system, using the concept of Local Parton Hadron Duality. Some qualitative features are confirmed by the data but substantial quantitative deviations are observed.
Measurement and Interpretation of Fermion-Pair Production at LEP Energies of 183 and 189 GeV
2000
An analysis of the data collected in 1997 and 1998 with the DELPHI detector at e+e- collision energies close to 183 and 189 GeV was performed in order to extract the hadronic and leptonic fermion-pair cross-sections, as well as the leptonic forward-backward asymmetries and angular distributions. The data are used to put limit on contact interactions between fermions, the exchange of R-parity violating SUSY sneutrinos, Z' bosons and the existence of gravity in extra dimensions.
