Search for new phenomena with the monojet and missing transverse momentum signature using the ATLAS detector in s=7TeV proton–proton collisions

2011

A search for new phenomena in events featuring a high energy jet and large missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV is presented using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 33 pb(-1) recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The number of observed events is consistent with the Standard Model prediction. This result is interpreted in terms of limits on a model of Large Extra Dimensions. (C) 2011 CERN. Diboson production in proton–proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7~{\rm TeV}$

2014

This review article summarizes results on the production cross section measurements of electroweak boson pairs ($WW$, $WZ$, $ZZ$, $W\gamma$ and $Z\gamma$) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in $pp$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=7$ \TeV. The two general-purpose detectors at the LHC, ATLAS and CMS, recorded an integrated luminosity of $5fb^{-1}$ in 2011, which offered the possibility to study the properties of diboson production to high precision. These measurements test predictions of the Standard Model (SM) in a new energy regime and are crucial for the understanding and the measurement of the SM Higgs boson and other new particles. In this review, special emphasis is d…

Search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the decay channel H→ZZ(⁎)→4ℓ with 4.8 fb−1 of pp collision data at s=7 TeV with ATLAS

2012

This Letter presents a search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the decay channel H -> ZZ((*)) -> l(+)l(-)l(-)+l(')-, where l,l' = e or mu, using proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.8 fb(-1). The four-lepton invariant mass distribution is compared with Standard Model background expectations to derive upper limits on the cross section of a Standard Model Higgs boson with a mass between 110 GeV and 600 GeV. The mass ranges 134-156 GeV, 182-233 GeV, 256-265 GeV and 268-415 GeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level. The largest upward deviations from the background-only hypothesis are observed for …

Threshold expansion at order αs4 for the tt¯ invariant mass distribution at hadron colliders

2010

Abstract We calculate the leading O ( α s 4 ) contributions to the invariant mass distribution of top-quark pairs produced at the Tevatron and LHC, in the limit where the invariant mass of the t t ¯ pair approaches the partonic center-of-mass energy. Our results determine at NNLO in α s the coefficients of all singular plus distributions and scale-dependent logarithms in the differential partonic cross sections for q q ¯ , g g → t t ¯ + X . A numerical analysis showing the effects of the NNLO corrections on the central values and scale dependence of the invariant mass distribution is performed. The NNLO corrections are found to significantly enhance the cross section and reduce the perturba…

Two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations inppcollisions ats=900  GeV

2010

We report on the measurement of two-pion correlation functions from pp collisions at root s = 900 GeV performed by the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Our analysis shows an increase of the Hanbury Brown-Twiss radius with increasing event multiplicity, in line with other measurements done in particle- and nuclear collisions. Conversely, the strong decrease of the radius with increasing transverse momentum, as observed at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and at Tevatron, is not manifest in our data.

Azimuthal anisotropy ofD-meson production in Pb-Pb collisions atsNN=2.76TeV

2014

The production of the prompt charmed mesons D0, D+, and D*+ relative to the reaction plane was measured in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon collision of √sNN=2.76TeV with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. D mesons were reconstructed via their hadronic decays at central rapidity in the transverse-momentum (p_T) interval 2–16 GeV/c. The azimuthal anisotropy is quantified in terms of the second coefficient v2 in a Fourier expansion of the D-meson azimuthal distribution and in terms of the nuclear modification factor R_AA, measured in the direction of the reaction plane and orthogonal to it. The v2 coefficient was measured with three different …

2017

A measurement of the time-integrated CP asymmetry in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D0→K−K+ is performed using pp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3fb−1, collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The flavour of the charm meson at production is determined from the charge of the pion in D∗+→D0π+ and D∗−→D0¯π− decays. The time-integrated CP asymmetry ACP(K−K+) is obtained assuming negligible CP violation in charm mixing and in Cabibbo-favoured D0→K−π+, D+→K−π+π+ and D+→K0¯π+ decays used as calibration channels. It is found to be ACP(K−K+)=(0.14±0.15(stat)±0.10(syst))%. A combination of this result with previous LHCb measurements yield…

Low-mass dileptons at high momenta in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions

1992

Abstract We calculate the emission rate of low-mass dileptons at high momenta from a quark-gluon plasma. We find a large enhancement compared with the naive Born rate. Numerical estimates for relativistic heavy ions collisions at RHIC and LHC suggest, however, that the thermal signal is dominated by the background coming from meson decays and from hadronic bremsstrahlung.

Doubly charmed exotic mesons: A gift of nature?

2011

Article history: We study doubly charmed exotic states by solving the scattering problem of two D mesons. Our results point to the existence of a stable isoscalar doubly charmed meson with quantum numbers (I) J P = (0)1 + . We perform a thorough comparison to the results obtained within the hyperspherical harmonic formalism. Such exotic states could be measured at LHC and RHIC. Their experimental observation would,
