Fission fragment angular distribution of 232Th(n,f) at the CERN n TOF facility

The angular distribution of fragments emitted in neutron-induced fission of 232Th was measured in the white spectrum neutron beam at the n_TOF facility at CERN. A reaction chamber based on Parallel Plate Avalanche Counters (PPAC) was used, where the detectors and the targets have been tilted 45 degrees with respect to the neutron beam direction in order to cover the full angular range of the fission fragments. A GEANT4 simulation has been developed to study the setup efficiency. The data analysis and the preliminary results obtained for the 232Th(n,f) between fission threshold and 100 MeV are presented here.

Precision Spectroscopy on Trapped Radioactive Ions: Ground-State Hyperfine Splittings of 133 Ba + and 131 Ba +

The ground-state hyperfine splitting of radioactive Ba+ isotopes of mass 133 and 131, confined in a r.f. quadrupole trap, has been measured by laser-microwave double resonances. The results are Δν(133) = 9 925 453 554.59(10) Hz and Δν(131) = 9 107 913 698.97 (50) Hz. The experiment, including measurements of systematic shifts, was performed on quantities of about 1012 isotopes, produced by nuclear reactions and collected at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. The precision is comparable to equivalent measurements on stable isotopes and demonstrates the high-sensitivity of the stored-ion technique. Global polarization of Λ and Λ¯ hyperons in Pb-Pb collisions at sNN= 2.76 and 5.02 TeV

The global polarization of the $\Lambda$ and $\overline\Lambda$ hyperons is measured for Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV recorded with the ALICE at the LHC. The results are reported differentially as a function of collision centrality and hyperon's transverse momentum ($p_{\rm{T}}$) for the range of centrality 5-50%, $0.5 < p_{\rm{T}} <5$ GeV/$c$, and rapidity $|y|<0.5$. The hyperon global polarization averaged for Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV is found to be consistent with zero, $\langle P_{\rm{H}}\rangle$ (%) $\approx$ 0.01 $\pm$ 0.06 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.03 (syst.) in the collision centrality range 15-50%, where the largest signal i…

Suppression of Back-to-Back Hadron Pairs at Forward Rapidity ind+AuCollisions atsNN=200  GeV

Back-to-back hadron pair yields in d + Au and p + p collisions at root S-NN = 200 GeV were measured with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Rapidity separated hadron pairs were detected with the trigger hadron at pseudorapidity vertical bar eta vertical bar < 0: 35 and the associated hadron at forward rapidity (deuteron direction, 3.0< eta < 3.8). Pairs were also detected with both hadrons measured at forward rapidity; in this case, the yield of back-to-back hadron pairs in d + Au collisions with small impact parameters is observed to be suppressed by a factor of 10 relative to p + p collisions. Search for the charged lepton flavor violating decay J/ψ→eτ

A search for the charged lepton flavor violating decay J/ψ→e±τ∓ with τ∓→π∓π0ντ is performed with about 10×109 J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII. No significant signal is observed, and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction B(J/ψ→e±τ∓)&lt;7.5×10−8 at the 90% confidence level. This improves the previously published limit by two orders of magnitude.

Inclusive cross section and double-helicity asymmetry forπ0production at midrapidity inp+pcollisions ats=510  GeV

PHENIX measurements are presented for the cross section and double-helicity asymmetry (A(LL)) in inclusive pi(0) production at midrapidity from p + p collisions at root s = 510 GeV from data taken in 2012 and 2013 at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The next-to-leading-order perturbative-quantum-chromodynamics theory calculation is in excellent agreement with the presented cross section results. The calculation utilized parton-to-pion fragmentation functions from the recent DSS14 global analysis, which prefer a smaller gluon-to-pion fragmentation function. Multipole compensation scheme for LHC low-beta insertions

The LHC dynamic aperture in Physics conditions is determined by the field errors in the low-b quadrupoles and these errors set a lower limit to the value of b*. The associated aberrations have been computed with the transfer matrix method which gives particularly simple and efficient formulae for the case of low-b insertions. These formulae have been applied to the LHC case to design a multipole compensation system. The efficiency of the method has been assessed by trajectory tracking.

Monte Carlo model for nuclear collisions from SPS to LHC energies

A Monte Carlo model to simulate nuclear collisions in the energy range going from SPS to LHC, is presented. The model includes in its initial stage both soft and semihard components, which lead to the formation of color strings. Collectivity is taken into account considering the possibility of strings in color representations higher than triplet or antitriplet, by means of string fusion. String breaking leads to the production of secondaries. At this point, the model can be used as initial condition for further evolution by a transport model. In order to tune the parameters and see the results in nucleus-nucleus collisions, a naif model for rescattering of secondaries is introduced. Results…

A search for a heavy charged-boson resonance decaying into a charged lepton (electron or muon) and a neutrino is reported. A data sample of 139  fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at √s=13  TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2015–2018 is used in the search. The observed transverse mass distribution computed from the lepton and missing transverse momenta is consistent with the distribution expected from the Standard Model, and upper limits on the cross section for pp→W′→lν are extracted (l=e or μ). These vary between 1.3 pb and 0.05 fb depending on the resonance mass in the range between 0.15 and 7.0 TeV at 95% confidence level for the electron and muon channels combined. …

A search for supersymmetry in events with large missing transverse momentum, jets, and at least one hadronically decaying τ-lepton is presented. Two exclusive final states with either exactly one or at least two τ-leptons are considered. The analysis is based on proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb-1 delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2015 and 2016. No significant excess is observed over the Standard Model expectation.
