Bio-optical models are based on relationships between the spectral remote sensing reflectance and optical properties of in-water constituents. The wavelength range where this information can be exploited changes depending on the water characteristics. In low chlorophyll-a waters, the blue/green region of the spectrum is more sensitive to changes in chlorophyll-a concentration, whereas the red/NIR region becomes more important in turbid and/or eutrophic waters. Operational monitoring of vegetative cover by remote sensing currently involves the utilisation of vegetation indices (VIs), most of them being functions of the reflectance in red (R) and near-infrared (NIR) spectral bands. A generalized soil-adjusted vegetation index (GESAVI), theoretically based on a simple vegetation canopy model, is introduced. It is defined in terms of the soil line parameters (A and B) as: GESAVI=(NIRBRA)/(R+Z), where Z is related to the red reflectance at the cross point between the soil line and vegetation isolines. Summary The Cycladic, the Minoan, and the Helladic (Mycenaean) cultures define the Bronze Age (BA) of Greece. Urbanism, complex social structures, craft and agricultural specialization, and the earliest forms of writing characterize this iconic period. We sequenced six Early to Middle BA whole genomes, along with 11 mitochondrial genomes, sampled from the three BA cultures of the Aegean Sea. The Early BA (EBA) genomes are homogeneous and derive most of their ancestry from Neolithic Aegeans, contrary to earlier hypotheses that the Neolithic-EBA cultural transition was due to massive population turnover. Preparations of stress protein gp96 from tumor cells are active as tumor vaccines by eliciting immune responses against mixtures of individual tumor peptide antigens which are complexed to gp96. Due to the individual antigenicity of tumors, a vaccine consisting of tumor-derived gp96 has to be prepared individually for each patient from autologous tumor tissue. So far, gp96 expression by human tumors has not been analyzed. Multispectral and autofluorescence RGB imaging for skin cancer diagnostics

This paper presents the results of statistical clinical data, combining two diagnostic methods. A combination of two skin imaging methods – diffuse reflectance and autofluorescence – has been applied for skin cancer diagnostics. Autofluorescence (AF) and multispectral diffuse reflectance images were acquired by custom made prototype with 405 nm, 526 nm, 663 nm and 964 nm LEDs and RGB CMOS camera. Parameter p’ was calculated from diffuse reflectance images under green, red and infrared illumination, AF intensity (I’) was calculated from AF images exited at 405nm wavelength. RGB imaging system for monitoring of skin vascular malformation's laser therapy

A prototype RGB imaging system for mapping of skin chromophores consists of a commercial RGB CMOS sensor, RGB LEDs ring-light illuminator and orthogonally orientated polarizers for reducing specular reflectance. The system was used for monitoring of vascular malformations (hemagiomas and telangiectasias) therapy.

Individuals with Lynch syndrome (LS), one of the most common inherited cancer syndromes, are at increased risk of developing malignancies, in particular colorectal cancer (CRC). Regular colonoscopy with polypectomy is recommended to reduce CRC risk in LS individuals. However, recent independent studies demonstrated that a substantial proportion of LS individuals develop CRC despite regular colonoscopy. Protein expression of the putative tumour-suppressor gene DCC on chromosome 18q was evaluated in a panel of 16 matched colorectal cancer and normal colonic tissue samples together with DCC mRNA expression and allelic deletions (loss of heterozygosity, LOH). Determined by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-LOH assay, 12 of the 16 (75%) cases were informative with LOH occurring in 2 of the 12 cases. For DCC mRNA, transcripts could be detected in all analysed normal tissues (eight out of eight) by RT-PCR, whereas 6 of the 15 tumours were negative.
