Digital video-electrochemistry (DVEC) to assess electrochromic materials in the frequency domain: RGB colorimetry impedance spectroscopy
2021
Abstract This work is the first one allowing the characterization of electrochromic devices simultaneously at various parts on their surface and different rates of color change. We describe a new proficient and affordable methodology for reporting electrochromic parameters such as coloration efficiency, optical contrast, and switching time based on the use of digital video-electrochemistry (DVEC) in the ac regime, namely RGB colorimetry impedance spectroscopy. Simultaneously with the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, the RGB color changes of an electrochromic electrode were recorded by a CCD digital camera at 120 digital images per second. In such conditions, RGB electrochromic change…
Mesopic vision characteristics at decreased contrast in fog
2010
Perception of different color contrast stimuli was studied in the presence of light scattering in a fog chamber in Clermont-Ferrand and in laboratory conditions where light scattering of similar levels was obtained. Blue (shortest wavelength) light is scattered in fog to the greatest extent, causing deterioration of vision quality especially for the monochromatic blue stimuli. We have done spectral measurements of the light source in different density fog conditions and no spectral changes were found produced by the fog. Psychophysical measurements of the acuity in fog were done for two subjects with optotypes analyzed for red and blue stimuli.
A fast heuristic for solving the D1EC coloring problem
2010
In this paper we propose an efficient heuristic for solving the Distance-1 Edge Coloring problem (D1EC) for the on-the-fly assignment of orthogonal wireless channels in wireless as soon as a topology change occurs. The coloring algorithm exploits the simulated annealing paradigm, i.e., a generalization of Monte Carlo methods for solving combinatorial problems. We show that the simulated annealing-based coloring converges fast to a sub optimal coloring scheme even for the case of dynamic channel allocation. However, a stateful implementation of the D1EC scheme is needed in order to speed-up the network coloring upon topology changes. In fact, a stateful D1EC reduces the algorithm’s convergen…
A heuristic for fast convergence in interference-free channel assignment using D1EC coloring
2010
This work proposes an efficient method for solving the Distance-1 Edge Coloring problem (D1EC) for the assignment of orthogonal channels in wireless networks with changing topology. The coloring algorithm is performed by means of the simulated annealing method, a generalization of Monte Carlo methods for solving combinatorial problems. We show that the simulated annealing-based coloring converges fast to a suboptimal coloring scheme. Furthermore, a stateful implementation of the D1EC scheme is proposed, in which network coloring is executed upon topology changes. The stateful D1EC is also based on simulated annealing and reduces the algorithm’s convergence time by one order of magnitude in …
Fruit yield and quality responses of apple cvars Gala and Fuji to partial rootzone drying under Mediterranean conditions
2012
SUMMARYIncreasing irrigation efficiency is a major goal for fruit production in dry Mediterranean environments. The present study was conducted in three consecutive years (2007–09) under typical Mediterranean conditions and tested the effect of partial rootzone drying (PRD) on yield and fruit quality of two apple cultivars: Gala, with fruit maturing in summer and Fuji, with fruit maturing in autumn. Three irrigation treatments were imposed: conventional irrigation (CI), PRD (0·50 of CI water on one side of the rootzone, which was alternated periodically) and continuous deficit irrigation (DI, 0·50 of CI water on both sides of the rootzone). During the 2008 and 2009 irrigation seasons, DI re…
A comparison of 3 H-cocaine binding on melanin granules and human hair in vitro
1997
The in vitro experiments on the interaction of 3H-cocaine and melanin from Sepia officinalis confirmed the existence of drug binding sites on melanin granules. The results suggested that the binding of 3H-cocaine to melanin could be analyzed by assuming that the binding to the surface of pigment granules is analogous to the adsorption of a drug on a solid and follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm type I. Scatchard analysis indicated heterogeneity of binding sites. Structural and chemical alterations caused by isolation of the melanoproteins, which are heterogeneous in nature and show different physico-chemical properties, are considered to be most crucial. The studies on hair samples confirm…
POSSIBLE RELATION BETWEEN GUT MICROFLORA COMPOSITION AND ONCOGENIC RISK: IS STIMULATION OF INFLAMMATION THE ONE RING OF CONNECTION?
2012
Human intestinalmicrobiotais characterizedby highpopulationdensity, wide diversity and complexity of interactions. Dysbiosis, both qualitative and quantitative, might have serious health consequences including an increase in the number and/or alteration of bacteria colonizing the gastrointestinal tract, which could be referred as gut microflora imbalance (GMI). GMI is frequently found in patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome; this is the reason why some authors believe that IBS is secondary to GMI. Interestingly, GMI is also found in about 25% of Crohn’s disease patients. Stimulation of inflammation by the ‘dangerous bacteria’, through specific activation of the intestinal immune…
The effectiveness of Opuntia ficus-indica mucilage edible coating on postharvest maintenance of ‘Dottato’ fig (Ficus carica L.) fruit
2017
Abstract Breba figs are highly perishable and their shelf-life is very short. In this study, breba figs (cv. ‘Dottato’) were treated with a mucilage solution of Opuntia ficus-indica cladodes, sealed in plastic bags, and stored at 4 °C for 14 days. The effect of the edible coating on the shelf-life and qualitative attributes of the fruit were evaluated by colors, content of total soluble solids, titratable acidity, total phenol, total carotenoids. Results showed that coating improves the quality of breba fig during storage. The edible coating was effective in maintaining fruit fresh weight, visual score values, fruit firmness and total carotenoid content. Coated fruit showed a significantly …
Imaging quality of multifocal intraocular lenses: automated assessment setup
2012
[EN] Purpose: A new technique for the assessment of the optical quality of multifocal intraocular lenses (MIOLs) under monochromatic and polychromatic illumination is presented. Methods: The system provides, in a totally automated procedure, the modulation transfer function (MTF) of the lens under test for different axial positions of the object. The artificial eye admits different artificial corneas, to optimise the axial resolution in the sampling of the MTF of the MIOL under test, and different pupils, to test the dependence of the optical performance of the MIOL on the eye pupil diameter. Results: The performance and sensitivity of the apparatus is tested with different commercial MIOLs…
Real-Time Monocular Pose Estimation of 3D Objects Using Temporally Consistent Local Color Histograms
2017
We present a novel approach to 6DOF pose estimation and segmentation of rigid 3D objects using a single monocular RGB camera based on temporally consistent, local color histograms. We show that this approach outperforms previous methods in cases of cluttered backgrounds, heterogenous objects, and occlusions. The proposed histograms can be used as statistical object descriptors within a template matching strategy for pose recovery after temporary tracking loss e.g. caused by massive occlusion or if the object leaves the camera’s field of view. The descriptors can be trained online within a couple of seconds moving a handheld object in front of a camera. During the training stage, our approac…
