Moving Towards Common Data Elements and Core Outcome Measures in Frailty Research.

2020

With aging populations around the world, frailty is becoming more prevalent increasing the need for health systems and social systems to deliver optimal evidence based care. However, in spite of the growing number of frailty publications, high-quality evidence for decision making is often lacking. Inadequate descriptions of the populations enrolled including frailty severity and frailty conceptualization, lack of use of validated frailty assessment tools, utilization of different frailty instruments between studies, and variation in reported outcomes impairs the ability to interpret, generalize and implement the research findings. The utilization of common data elements (CDEs) and core outc…

Procedure and Debate in the British Parliamentary Culture

2016

Haapala illuminates the relationship between procedure and debate in the British parliamentary culture that was formed during the nineteenth century. While emphasising the constitutional shift to parliamentary government after the passing of the 1832 Reform Act, the chapter demonstrates its effects on the parliamentary culture with a special focus on the increasing role of debate and the attempts to reform House of Commons’ procedures. As well as drawing attention to the publicity of parliamentary proceedings and professionalisation of political journalism, Haapala uses rhetorical treatises and manuals to show the common attitudes towards parliamentary debate before and after the institutio…

The euro impact on trade. Long run evidence with structural breaks

2012

In this paper we present new evidence on the euro effect on trade. We use a data set containing all bilateral combinations in a panel of 26 OECD countries during the period 1967-2008. From a methodological point of view, we implement a new generation of tests that allow solving some of the problems derived from the non-stationary nature of the data. To this aim we apply panel tests that account for the presence of cross-section dependence as well as discontinuities in the non-stationary panel data. We test for cointegration between the variables using panel cointegration tests, especially the ones proposed by Banerjee and Carrióni- Silvestre (2010). We also efficiently estimate the long-run…

Identity, Instrumental Self-Interest and Institutional Evaluations: Explaining Public Opinion on Common European Policies in Foreign Affairs and Defe…

2008

This paper addresses public opinion on common European policies in foreign affairs and defence. It proposes three models of support for common policies in these fields. Drawing on Eurobarometer data, the analysis shows that instrumental self-interest and territorial identities contribute considerably to explaining support for common foreign affairs and defence policies. Moreover, support for common policies is strongly driven by domain-specific evaluations of the European Union's performance. These findings suggest that popular support for common European policies in foreign affairs and defence has an experiential base. Thus, elites have an incentive to respond to public opinion when makin…

Human CD8+ memory and EBV-specific T cells show low alloreactivity in vitro and in CD34+ stem cell–engrafted NOD/SCID/IL-2Rγcnull mice

2013

Current strategies in cellular immunotherapy of cancer and viral infections include the adoptive transfer of T cell receptor (TCR) and chimeric antigen receptor engineered T cells. When using transient RNA expression systems in clinical studies, multiple infusions with receptor-redirected T cells appear necessary. However, in allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation, repeated transfer of donor-derived T cells increases the risk of alloreactive graft-versus-host disease. We investigated naive-derived (T N ), memory-derived (T M ), and Epstein Barr virus-specific (T EBV ) CD8 + T cell subsets for alloreactivity upon redirection with RNA encoding a cytomegalovirus-specific model TCR.…

Income and expenses of Jan Karol Chodkiewicz (1686–1712), starost of Veliuona, Zabłudów, Baisogala and Daugeliskis, relating to his schooling in Wars…

2021

Jan Karol Chodkiewicz (1686–1712) – szkic biograficzny młodego magnata

2021

The concept of the Royal Prerogative in parliamentary debates on the deployment of military in the British House of Commons, 1982–2003

2014

The article will discuss how one political key concept, the Royal Prerogative, was discussed in the British House of Commons in relation to the right to deploy and use armed troops abroad during the period 1982-2003, a time when the role of the British Parliament in decisions to deploy and commit troops to an armed conflict abroad was under extensive discussion in Parliament. This discussion began increasingly to address the state of the constitutional arrangements, more specifically the redefinition of the Royal Prerogative rights, the residual powers of the executive, as outdated in the understanding of modern representative democracy. The use of the concept was studied to reveal the atti…
