MicroRNAs in Colorectal Cancer Drug Resistance: Shooters become Targets

2013

Copyright: © 2013 Fanale D, et al. This is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited. MicroRNAs (MiRNAs) are involved in the regulation of several biological processes such as development, differentiation, metabolism, apoptosis and proliferation. Recently, it has been shown that deregulated expression of miRNAs are present in different human cancers, suggesting a potential role in carcinogenesis [1,2]. Recent evidence suggests that miRNAs may represent potential new therapeutic approaches in patients with dru…

Shared Administration for Smart Cities

2016

Within the paradigm of Smart Cities, the role played by urban communities is becoming ever more crucial. This chapter, in particular, explores the paradigm of “Shared administration” as the most effective urban governance model that helps urban communities to operate as smart communities taking care and regenerating common urban spaces. According to this administrative culture, the “Regulation for collaboration between citizens and administration” and the “Pact” are measures to implement practical opportunities to empower citizens, to free their energies and to enhance their knowledge and competences in a renewed alliance with the public institutions.

THE ILVA DISASTER: A STUDY OF ENVIRONMENTAL LIABILITY IN ITALY

Reimparare il comune: A teatro dopo il 1989

2020

The Effect of Different High-Intensity Periodization Models on Endurance Adaptations

2016

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the effects of three different high-intensity training (HIT) models, balanced for total load but differing in training plan progression, on endurance adaptations. Methods: Sixty-three cyclists (peak oxygen uptake (V˙O2peak) 61.3 ± 5.8 mL·kg−1·min−1) were randomized to three training groups and instructed to follow a 12-wk training program consisting of 24 interval sessions, a high volume of low-intensity training, and laboratory testing. The increasing HIT group (n = 23) performed interval training as 4 × 16 min in weeks 1–4, 4 × 8 min in weeks 5–8, and 4 × 4 min in weeks 9–12. The decreasing HIT group (n = 20) performed interval sessions in the opposite…

The Politics of Debate in the Union Societies

2016

The chapter discusses the disputes over procedure in the private meetings of the Union Societies and how they can be interpreted politically. Haapala points out that some of the rules were adopted from the House of Commons, although the Unions did not follow the parliamentary model in all respects. As well as noting that the politics of debate in the Unions was largely conducted through rule interpretation and challenging the decisions of the president, the chapter also draws attention to the role of the standing committees, the vast powers of Union presidents and the rhetorical strategies the members used in the debates. The chapter ends with a typology of politicisation of the rules in th…
