Technostress and social networking services: Explaining users' concentration, sleep, identity, and social relation problems
2018
It is common for users of social networking sites and services (SNS) to suffer from technostress and the various associated strains that hinder their well‐being. Despite prior SNS stress studies having provided valuable knowledge regarding SNS stressors and their use consequences, they have not examined the various strains related to well‐being that those stressors can create nor the underlying SNS characteristics. To address this gap in the research, we used a qualitative approach involving narrative interviews. As a contribution, our findings reveal four types of strains related to well‐being (concentration problems, sleep problems, identity problems, and social relation problems) as well…
Long-Term Potentiation in the Neonatal Rat Barrel Cortex In Vivo
2012
Long-term potentiation (LTP) is important for the activity-dependent formation of early cortical circuits. In the neonatal rodent barrel cortex, LTP has been studied only in vitro . We combined voltage-sensitive dye imaging with extracellular multielectrode recordings to study whisker stimulation-induced LTP in the whisker-to-barrel cortex pathway of the neonatal rat barrel cortex in vivo . Single whisker stimulation at 2 Hz for 10 min induced an age-dependent expression of LTP in postnatal day (P) 0 to P14 rats, with the strongest expression of LTP at P3–P5. The magnitude of LTP was largest in the activated barrel-related column, smaller in the surrounding septal region, and no LTP could b…
Differential genomic imprinting regulates paracrine and autocrine roles of IGF2 in mouse adult neurogenesis
2015
Genomic imprinting is implicated in the control of gene dosage in neurogenic niches. Here we address the importance of Igf2 imprinting for murine adult neurogenesis in the subventricular zone (SVZ) and in the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the hippocampus in vivo. In the SVZ, paracrine IGF2 is a cerebrospinal fluid and endothelial-derived neurogenic factor requiring biallelic expression, with mutants having reduced activation of the stem cell pool and impaired olfactory bulb neurogenesis. In contrast, Igf2 is imprinted in the hippocampus acting as an autocrine factor expressed in neural stem cells (NSCs) solely from the paternal allele. Conditional mutagenesis of Igf2 in blood vessels confirms t…
Designing Features for Fido: What Makes Animal-Computer Interaction So Different From Human-Computer Interaction?
2013
Lehtonen, Jaana Designing Features for Fido: What Makes Animal-Computer Interaction So Dif-ferent From Human-Computer Interaction? Jyväskylä: University of Jyväskylä, 2013, 21 p. Information Systems Science, Bachelor’s thesis Supervisor: Kuparinen, Liisa Animal-computer interaction aims to allow animals to interact not only with computers but their owners and other humans through computerised interfaces. This thesis studies the existing research on the main characteristics of ani-mal-computer interaction and what sets it apart from human-computer interac-tion. The main focus is on recognising and defining different kinds of chal-lenges affecting the development of tools and systems for anim…
Les ronds-points au carrefour de l’incommunication
2019
This paper explores how the anthropology of communication, as formalized by Yves Winkin further to his work on the “invisible college” of Palo Alto, enhances research in information and communication sciences into the political field. The anthropological approach based on the “new communication” model seems essential to understanding the failure in communication besetting the fundamental relation between those who govern and those who are governed especially in France. The Gilets jaunes (yellow vests) crisis illustrates and drives this proposal by widening the scope of analysis defined by the specialists of political communication to encompass all the actors, institutions, and processes inv…
Smad7 controls resistance of colitogenic T cells to regulatory T cell-mediated suppression.
2008
Background & Aims Foxp3-expressing regulatory T cells (Tregs) play a key role in the maintenance of the gut immune homeostasis, and an intact transforming growth factor (TGF)-β signaling is required for their function. In inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the TGF-β signaling is impaired because of high expression of the inhibitory molecule Smad7. Although no intrinsic defects in Tregs function have been shown in IBD, it is still unknown whether colitogenic T cells are susceptible to Treg-mediated suppression. In this study, we have investigated whether IBD mucosal CD4+ T cells are resistant to Tregs and whether Smad7 is involved in this process. Methods IBD lamina propria mononuclear cells …
Apmaiņas programmas skolēnu starpkultūru saskarsmes prasmju attīstībai vidusskolā
2018
Gamifying Teacher Students’ Learning Platform
2020
This paper presents initial results from a study exploring teacher students’ experiences related to the gamification of an online learning platform in higher education. The aim was to get an understanding of the participants’ views regarding the use of game elements and to examine the user type profile of this group in order to explore the potential of applying user types in planning gamification solutions for teacher students. The participants’ overall experience of having game elements as part of their course platform was principally positive. User types students presented were investigated using the Hexad scale adapted from game design: in this user group, Socialiser and Philanthropist w…
Explorer les possibles de l'écriture multimédia
2011
2018
The work we present is inspired by the results of an architectural survey that was carried out on the architectural remains of the Roman Amphitheater of Termini Imerese, in order to its possible conjectural reconfiguration and three-dimensional remodeling in a VRML or augmented-reality context. All this has been thought to benefit the development of cultural and archaeological tourism in the site itself. The approach to the site and to the ancient building has, however, focused on urban and territorial analysis since the first inspections, considering mainly the peculiarities that distinguish the historical / architectural vicissitudes of the site. In the Medieval Age the Jewish Quarter was…
