A Simulation Framework for Evaluating Distributed Reputation Management Systems

2016

In distributed environments, where interactions involve unknown entities, intelligent techniques for estimating agents’ reputation are required. Reputation Management Systems (RMSs) aim to detect malicious behaviors that may affect the integrity of the virtual community. However, these systems are highly dependent of the application domain they address; hence the evaluation of different RMSs in terms of correctness and resistance to security attacks is frequently a tricky task. In this work we present a simulation framework to support researchers in the assessment of a RMS. The simulator is organized in two logic layers where network nodes are mapped to system processes that implement the i…

Real-time detection of twitter social events from the user's perspective

2015

Over the last 40 years, automatic solutions to analyze text documents collection have been one of the most attractive challenges in the field of information retrieval. More recently, the focus has moved towards dynamic, distributed environments, where documents are continuously created by the users of a virtual community, i.e., the social network. In the case of Twitter, such documents, called tweets, are usually related to events which involve many people in different parts of the world. In this work we present a system for real-time Twitter data analysis which allows to follow a generic event from the user's point of view. The topic detection algorithm we propose is an improved version of…

Which Foundation for Human Rights?

2021

The article argues the thesis according to which the problem of the foundation of human rights is not well formulated in the classic debate on it. The reason is that there are different kinds of foundations, depending on the different concepts of human rights, but also in consideration of the different aspects of their practice. The question is then which foundation fits with a notion of human rights as a legal and social practice. The second part is dedicated to the analysis of the idea that the practice of human rights is part of the current jus gentium. It aims at showing the implications of that relationship in terms of their appropriate legal grounds.

La représentation de l’identité sicilienne dans les bâtiments publics du Ventennio fasciste

The intervention, included in the panel of the Conference dedicated to the monumental forms of political and cultural identities, proposed the analysis of some artistic decorations of monumental public building made in Sicily during the fascist regime, such as the pictorial cycle of the Palace of the Prefecture of Ragusa, the bas-reliefs of the Casa del Fascio in Messina and the mosaic of the Maritime Station of the same city. The institutional representation of the collective – the Conference’s main subject of interest – was considered in the light of traditional themes of fascist ideology, such as Labour, and by episodes related to the local context, such as Mussolini’s visits or mythiciz…

Settore L-FIL-LET/14 - Critica Letteraria E Letterature ComparateBetween late XIX and the first 30 years of the XX Century some Italians immigrated to the United States – such as Bernardino Ciambelli Italo Stanco Garibaldi Marto Lapolla Louis Forgione Michael Fiaschetti and Prosper Buranelli – wrote some texts that starting from the typical features of Mystery (serialization and incardination of the fabula in a specific urban context) together with some of the characteristic elements of the Hard boiled never lose sight of the peculiar 'mission' of political economic and social denunciation. Taking the political and social problems as the primary key of their works these writers want to remove the defamatory role attributed by the public opinion fomented by the press to Italian immigrated community. Their works don’t have the main intent to stage detectives that can solve a case or unmask a culprit but rather they aim to denounce social distortions corruption and injustices suffered by an entire community and not least to indicate the picture of what on the contrary that same society could have been.

How to Empower Gypsies? An Ethnographic Study

2010

The work focuses on the case of the nomad camp of Palermo, in southern Italy, where three groups of “Gypsies” have been living for twenty-five years, in ghetto-like conditions. This camp represents a world outside the city, or rather a confined microcosm, with, except for volunteer workers, sporadic contact with the people of the city or the public administration. . This means that there is no inter-relationship between the camp and the outside world. On the contrary, for the so-called host society, the three different groups represent a sort of generic and nebulous whole, cut off in a green area, surrounded by a high wall. Not seeing them means not caring about them, their living condition…

Teatro Bene Comune: Gedanken zum italienischen Theaterfrühling

2019

This contribution describes and reevaluates the Occupied Theatre Movements in Italy (2010-2017) from a marxist and post-structuralist perspective. It situates the theatre occupations in Italy in a broader genealogy of social movements and gives a phenomenological analysis of the specific forms of community-building that caracterize contemporary critique from the Left.

Il movimento dell'esistere tra comunicazione e riconoscimento

2021

The article develops some reflections on communication and intersubjective recognition. In particular, crossing the reflections of Mounier and Habermas, he dwells on the dialectic between identity and difference as a central dynamic of the anthropological structure. Communication is an element that pervades human existence; through it images of the world are constructed and practical modalities are activated. The human being experiences and understands reality through communicative interaction. It is an original act of existence, the means to build humanized societies through the grammar of recognizing the other

Carceral Aesthetics. Art and Everyday Life in Prison

2021

The paper aims to focus on everyday life in prison following a double perspective, a historical and a contemporary one. First, the historical phenomenon of prison graffiti will be investigated in connection with one case study: the graffiti in the prisons of the Holy Office in Palermo. Subsequently, the effect of making art in today’s prisons both on space and on inmate life will be taken into account. The overall aim of this twofold reading is to show to what extent making art in prison can be seen as a strategy of activation of those relational and familiarizing processes which bestow an aesthetic value on everyday life.
