Is tourism firm competitiveness driven by different internal or external specific factors?: New empirical evidence from Spain

2015

Abstract The quest to understand the multilevel antecedents of competitiveness has led to a separation of approaches. On one side of the question are the environment theories that analyze the structural characteristics of the general and competitive environment. On the other side are the Resource Based View and its extensions that highlight firm-specific resources and capabilities as the main basis of firms' competitiveness. However, in recent years the nature of competition and shifting economic conditions have given rise to new theoretical approaches that complement the assumptions underlying both environmental and firm theories. Specifically, this study contributes by examining the regio…

The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between the potential and the level of competitiveness of individual European Union countries in the field of slaughter cattle production. In addition, the paper attempts to determine the specialisation of individual EU countries in the production of slaughter animals by sector. The analysis covered the years 2010–2016, …

NEW EU MEMBER COUNTRIES ARE PHASING OUT LABOR-INTENSIVE ACTIVITIES: AN ECONOMETRIC APPROACH

2012

This paper deals with the process of industrial development that has been unfolding in Central and East-European Countries during the last two decades, with special focus on changes in international specialization induced by successive shifts in comparative advantage. As it was to be expected, these advances have gradually improved the respective countries’ exports structure, the most important mutation residing in the gradual abandoning of subcontracting agreements – mostly confined to assembly-of-imported-inputs – and the expansion of the production of knowledge and human capital-intensive goods and services. European integration has most certainly been acting as a catalyst for this proce…

We built the study’s protocol by enriching the OECD technical guidelines to build composite indicators. The protocol contains now 15 criteria used to examine the reviewed indicators, among these two useful quality measures. Ten studies were identified as providing a composit…

A BRIEF ANALYSIS ON DEVELOPMENT AND COMPETITIVENESS – CONSIDERING THE WORLD’S TOP TRANSNATIONAL CORPORATIONS

2012

Development represents a strategic goal for every country of the world. But it also is a “complicated issue”, given the multitude of (micro and macro economic) approaches that academics and strategists have proposed for development. By this paper we consider competitiveness as measure and indicator of development – based on World Economic Forum researches and findings. This kind of approach allows us to make some (time - and space - based) comparisons – at country level and to identify some key figures – at industry level – of the world’s top transnational corporations (ranked by UNCTAD) that can be valorised by countries (and TNCs as well) on their journey through economic development and …
