At the end of the 19th century, Spanish carnivals have been marked by the participation of the different tunas or also known as, estudiantinas. These groups achieved significant relevance in Galicia, especially in the city of Compostela, which, year after year, encouraged and supported the formation of groups of this nature to liven up the carnivals in the different Spanish cities. [EN] Crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) based composite films were prepared as polyelectrolyte membranes for low temperature direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFC). The membranes were functionalised by means of the addition of graphene oxide (GO) and sulfonated graphene oxide (SGO) and crosslinked with sulfosuccinic acid (SSA). The chemical structure was corroborated and suitable thermal properties were found. Although the addition of GO and SGO slightly decreased the proton conductivity of the membranes, a significant reduction of the ethanol solution swelling and crossover was encountered, more relevant for those functionalised with SGO. Survival of infectious inoculum of the clubroot pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae was assessed following bench-scale flask composting experiments and large-scale composting procedures. Clubroot-affected material was provided by artificial inoculation of Chinese cabbage or naturally infected Brussels sprout and cabbage roots. Both sets of diseased material were used in flask experiments, and the latter in large-scale windrow and aerated tunnel experiments. Municipal green wastes, onion waste and spent mushroom compost were evaluated in flask experiments with varying temperature, aeration and moisture conditions. Aerobic composting and anaerobic digestion of pulp and paper mill sludges

The feasibility of aerobic vessel composting and anaerobic digestion for the treatment of pulp and paper mill sludges were studied. The composting studies made use of primary and secondary sludge from a de-inking and paper mill. In six parallely aerated 500 1 vessels with various carbon : nitrogen (C:N) -ratios, the most optimal performance was obtained with C:N -ratios of c. 22–35, while higher and lower ratios delayed the temperature increase. With the optimal ratios, the thermophilic stage was reached within 36 h, and the stage lasted for about seven days. Problem odpadów opakowaniowych z tworzyw sztucznych wciąż wymaga poszukiwania skutecznych rozwiązań. W artykule przedstawiono wytyczne Komisji Europejskie z marca 2019 roku w zakresie działań ograniczających składowanie zużytych opakowań na wysypiskach śmieci. Najwięcej uwagi poświęcono biotworzywom, stosowanym w produkcji opakowań, które -zgodnie z zapewnieniami ich producentów –mogą być składowane z odpadami organicznymi i ulegać wraz z nimi procesom biodegradacji lub kompostowania. Tailored electrospun nanofibrous polycaprolactone/gelatin scaffolds into an acid hydrolytic solvent system

[EN] Blended nanofibrous scaffolds based on polycaprolactone (PCL) and gelatin (Ge) were successfully prepared. A formic/acetic acid (1:1) mixture was used to dissolve PCL/Ge blends from 100/0 to 20/80 %wt in steps of 10 %wt. The hydrolysis of the PCL diluted in the formic/acetic acid mixture was considered as a method for tailoring the surface morphology and physicochemical features of the nanofibrous PCL/Ge scaffolds as a function of the dissolution time. The fibre diameter remained in the nanoscale range for all the studied scaffolds, which is crucial to mimic the extra-cellular matrix size.
