Magnetic resonance imaging of postrepair-myelomeningocele — findings in 31 children and adolescents

Magnetic resonance imaging has clearly demonstrated its efficacy in the diagnosis of pathological processes in the C.N.S. We examined 31 children who had undergone plastic closure of myelomeningocele a few days post partum. We could show that a high percentage of the patients (89%) presented the pathological anatomy of a tethered spinal cord; clinical symptoms of the tethered spinal cord syndrome, i.e. progressive neurological symptoms, however, are rarely observed. Possible revision of neurosurgical treatment of MMC is discussed.

Inferior altitudinal hemianopia associated with a tumor in the posterior fossa: report of a case

1984

Altitudinal hemianopias may be related to chiasmatic involvement. A case in which horizontal inferior hemianopia is associated with a tumor in the posterior fossa producing a triventricular hydrocephalus is described. The visual field defect is interpreted as a consequence of the pressure by a dilated third ventricle upon the chiasmatic area.

Changes in a patient with neck pain after application of ischemic compression as a trigger point therapy

Objective To describe the immediate effects of ischemic compression (IC) as a trigger point therapy in a case of a patient with neck pain. The application of IC is a safe and effective method to successfully treat elicited myofascial trigger points. The purpose of this method is to deliberate the blockage of blood in a trigger point area in order to increase local blood flow. This washes away waste products, supplies necessary oxygen and helps the affected tissue to heal. In this case study, we treated a 27-year-old female patient with a medical report of neck pain for at least four months. Abstract. Friction stir consolidation (FSC) is a solid-state recycling method that directly converts machining scraps into semifinished billets. This process has been proven to be a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly technique compared to remelting based conventional recycling methods. During FSC, machining chips are transformed into a solid billet by the stirring action and friction heat of the rotating tool. Due to process mechanics, especially temperature gradient and strain rate, billets have shown different hardness values and grain size distribution across their sections. Application of the Dang‐Van criterion for life determination under uniaxial random tension–compression with different mean values

In this paper the experimental fatigue lives of specimens made of 10HNAP steel with the lives calculated with the Goodman and Gerber methods of cycle amplitude transformation and the Dang Van criterion for uniaxial loading are compared. Cycles were counted with the rain flow algorithm and damage was accumulated according to the Palmgren-Miner hypothesis. This paper includes comparison of the results for constant amplitude loading with a non-zero mean value and for random loading with zero or non-zero mean values. It has been shown that for 10HNAP steel the algorithm of fatigue life calculations using the Dang Van criterion gives satisfactory results.

For the same reasons of abundance in data production, the use of Big Data technologies is seen as the future for genomic data storage and processing, with MapReduce-Hadoop as leaders.
