HyperLabelMe : A Web Platform for Benchmarking Remote-Sensing Image Classifiers

2017

HyperLabelMe is a web platform that allows the automatic benchmarking of remote-sensing image classifiers. To demonstrate this platform's attributes, we collected and harmonized a large data set of labeled multispectral and hyperspectral images with different numbers of classes, dimensionality, noise sources, and levels. The registered user can download training data pairs (spectra and land cover/use labels) and submit the predictions for unseen testing spectra. The system then evaluates the accuracy and robustness of the classifier, and it reports different scores as well as a ranked list of the best methods and users. The system is modular, scalable, and ever-growing in data sets and clas…

Adaptive quantized control of uncertain nonlinear rigid body systems

2023

This paper investigates the attitude tracking control problem for uncertain nonlinear rigid body systems, where both inputs and states are quantized. It is common in networked control systems that sensor and control signals are quantized before they are transmitted via a communication network. An adaptive backstepping control algorithm is developed for a class of uncertain multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems where a class of sector bounded quantizers is considered. It is shown that all the closed-loop signals are ensured uniformly bounded and tracking is achieved. Further, the tracking errors are shown to converge towards a compact set containing the origin and the set can be made…

Dead-time impact on the harmonic distortion and conversion efficiency in a three-phase five-level Cascaded H-Bridge inverter: mathematical formulatio…

2023

To avoid leg short-circuit in inverters, dead time must be introduced on leg gate signals. Dead time affects the inverter output voltage fundamental harmonic amplitude, voltage harmonic distortion and inverter efficiency by introducing additional voltage drops. In this regard, dead time effects have been widely investigated for traditional two-level three-phase voltage source inverters in the literature but not extensively for multilevel topology structures. This paper provides a detailed analysis of dead time impact on the harmonic distortion and efficiency of Cascaded H-Bridges Multilevel Inverters (CHBMIs). For this purpose, a general mathematical formulation to determine voltage drop du…

Student teachers’ responsible use of ICT: Examining two samples in Spain and Norway

2020

Information and communication technology (ICT) has become an important component of initial teacher education (ITE) in Europe and in the continuous professional development of practising teachers. The development of professional digital competence (PDC) is emerging as an essential part of teacher education. Due to the increasing use of ICT and the growing number of online teaching and learning resources, the responsible use of ICT has become one of the key aspects of PDC. For the purpose of this paper, the responsible use of ICT includes privacy issues, cyberbullying and the ability to evaluate digital content. We examine Spanish and Norwegian student teachers' perceived competence in priva…

Higher-Fidelity Frugal and Accurate Quantile Estimation Using a Novel Incremental Discretized Paradigm

2018

Traditional pattern classification works with the moments of the distributions of the features and involves the estimation of the means and variances. As opposed to this, more recently, research has indicated the power of using the quantiles of the distributions because they are more robust and applicable for non-parametric methods. The estimation of the quantiles is even more pertinent when one is mining data streams. However, the complexity of quantile estimation is much higher than the corresponding estimation of the mean and variance, and this increased complexity is more relevant as the size of the data increases. Clearly, in the context of infinite data streams, a computational and sp…

Implicit-explicit and explicit projection schemes for the unsteady incompressible Navier–Stokes equations using a high-order dG method

2017

Abstract A modified version of the projection scheme [19] is proposed, which does not show a lower limit for the time step in contrast to the limits of stability observed numerically for some projection type schemes. An advantage of the proposed scheme is that the right-hand side of the Poisson equation for the pressure is independent of the time step. An explicit version of the current scheme is also provided besides the implicit-explicit one. For the implicit-explicit version, we retain divergence of the viscous terms on the right-hand side of the Poisson equation in order to achieve a higher accuracy for low Reynolds number flows. In this way, we also ensure that the Poisson equation wit…

Forma mentis networks map how nursing and engineering students enhance their mindsets about innovation and health during professional growth

2020

Reconstructing a “forma mentis”, a mindset, and its changes, means capturing how individuals perceive topics, trends and experiences over time. To this aim we use forma mentis networks (FMNs), which enable direct, microscopic access to how individuals conceptually perceive knowledge and sentiment around a topic, providing richer contextual information than machine learning. FMNs build cognitive representations of stances through psycholinguistic tools like conceptual associations from semantic memory (free associations, i.e., one concept eliciting another) and affect norms (valence, i.e., how attractive a concept is). We test FMNs by investigating how Norwegian nursing and engineering stude…

The microscopic theory of diffusion-controlled defect aggregation

1998

Abstract The kinetics of diffusion-controlled aggregation of primary Frenkel defects ( F and H centers) in irradiated CaF 2 crystals is theoretically studied. Microscopic theory is based on the discrete-lattice formalism for the single defect densities (concentrations) and the coupled joint densities of similar and dissimilar defects treated in terms of the Kirkwood superposition approximation. Conditions and dynamics of the efficient F center aggregation during crystal heating after irradiation are analyzed.
