Exploratory approach for network behavior clustering in LoRaWAN
2021
AbstractThe interest in the Internet of Things (IoT) is increasing both as for research and market perspectives. Worldwide, we are witnessing the deployment of several IoT networks for different applications, spanning from home automation to smart cities. The majority of these IoT deployments were quickly set up with the aim of providing connectivity without deeply engineering the infrastructure to optimize the network efficiency and scalability. The interest is now moving towards the analysis of the behavior of such systems in order to characterize and improve their functionality. In these IoT systems, many data related to device and human interactions are stored in databases, as well as I…
An Overview of 5G Slicing Operational Business Models for Internet of Vehicles, Maritime IoT Applications and Connectivity Solutions
2021
Identification of ecosystems and Business Models (BM) is an important starting point for new complex system development. The definition of actor (or stakeholder) roles and their interactions (at both business and technical levels), together with target scenarios and use cases, provide essential input information for further system requirement collection and architecture specification. The powerful and flexible Fifth Generation (5G) network slicing technology, which is capable of creating virtually isolated and logically parallel networks, enables a large range of complex services and vertical applications. Although various terminologies and models have been proposed in recent years for BMs …

Real-Time Temporal Superpixels for Unsupervised Remote Photoplethysmography
2018
International audience; Segmentation is a critical step for many computer vision applications. Among them, the remote photoplethys-mography technique is significantly impacted by the quality of region of interest segmentation. With the heart-rate estimation accuracy, the processing time is obviously a key issue for real-time monitoring. Recent face detection algorithms can perform real-time processing, however for unsupervised algorithms, i.e. without any subject detection based on supervised learning, existing methods are not able to achieve real-time on regular platform. In this paper, we propose a new method to perform real-time un-supervised remote photoplethysmograhy based on efficient…
DYNAMIC SEMANTIC USER PROFILING FROM IMPLICIT WEB NAVIGATION DATA
2014
International audience; On the Web, pages are often dynamically generated and allow publishers to individually adapt contents to each viewer. Underlying systems must correctly understand the user's context - crucial especially in the case of online advertisement placement. The article at hand describes our proposition of a novel profiling system, adapted to the special needs of digital advertising. Based on Semantic Web Technologies, the MindMinings system relies on an ontology to enable thorough understanding of each user's context and needs. The underlying ontology structure also provides enhanced interoperability with semantically annotated knowledge resources, notably vocabularies from …
Improving Karhunen-Loeve based transform coding by using square isometries
2002
We propose, for an image compression system based on the Karhunen-Loeve transform implemented by neural networks, to take into consideration the 8 square isometries of an image block. The proper isometry applied puts the 8*8 square image block in a standard position, before applying the image block as input to the neural network architecture. The standard position is defined based on the variance of its four 4*4 sub-blocks (quadro partitioned) and brings the sub-block having the greatest variance in a specific corner and in another specific adjoining corner the sub-block having the second variance (if this is not possible the third is considered). The use of this "preprocessing" phase was e…
Systematic literature review of E-learning capabilities to enhance organizational learning
2021
AbstractE-learning systems are receiving ever increasing attention in academia, business and public administration. Major crises, like the pandemic, highlight the tremendous importance of the appropriate development of e-learning systems and its adoption and processes in organizations. Managers and employees who need efficient forms of training and learning flow within organizations do not have to gather in one place at the same time or to travel far away to attend courses. Contemporary affordances of e-learning systems allow users to perform different jobs or tasks for training courses according to their own scheduling, as well as to collaborate and share knowledge and experiences that res…
Mobile e-Services
2015
E-services are services delivered over the Internet. Such services have different proper- ties and dimensions, e.g. targeting different sectors, being accessible through different channels, or intended for frequent or infrequent use. Throughout this article we address e-services from a mobility perspective. We do this by 1) positioning mobile e-services within the research field; 2) reviewing related work on mobile e-services; and 3) present- ing and examining existing difficulties and opportunities when combining mobility and e-services. We see mobile e-services as the next generation of internet-based services and discuss important focus areas and future directions, giving extra notion to…
Universal Design of ICT for Emergency Management from Stakeholders’ Perspective
2020
While Universal Design principles have been adopted in many areas to ensure that products and services are usable for the broadest possible diversity of users, there is still an open area when it comes to the emergency management domain. This article aims at providing a systematic overview of the current state of the emerging research field of Universal Design of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Emergency Management, and to highlight high-impact research opportunities to ensure that the increasing introduction of ICT in Emergency Management can contribute to removing barriers instead of adding more barriers, in particular for the elderly and people with disabilities. A sys…
SEMANTIC MANAGEMENT OF INTELLIGENT MULTI-AGENTS SYSTEMS IN A 3D ENVIRONMENT
2011
8 pages; International audience; This paper presents a new approach combining the 3D elements composing the environment of mobile agents with semantic descriptors from Building Information Models. Our proposal is based on the IFC standard, which is used in the field of Civil Engineering to build digital models of buildings during the design phase. The semantic of IFC objects composing the 3D environment is used to select and set up 3D objects and elements of simulation scenarios. The result of this process dynamically generates the input files for the JaSIM environment that performs the simulation. These files deserve the representation of the virtual environment in which the simulation is …
