Using Topic Modeling Methods for Short-Text Data: A Comparative Analysis

2020

With the growth of online social network platforms and applications, large amounts of textual user-generated content are created daily in the form of comments, reviews, and short-text messages. As a result, users often find it challenging to discover useful information or more on the topic being discussed from such content. Machine learning and natural language processing algorithms are used to analyze the massive amount of textual social media data available online, including topic modeling techniques that have gained popularity in recent years. This paper investigates the topic modeling subject and its common application areas, methods, and tools. Also, we examine and compare five frequen…

A genetic algorithm for combined topology and shape optimisations

2003

A method to find optimal topology and shape of structures is presented. With the first the optimal distribution of an assigned mass is found using an approach based on homogenisation theory, that seeks in which elements of a meshed domain it is present mass; with the second the discontinuous boundaries are smoothed. The problem of the optimal topology search has an ON/OFF nature and has suggested the employment of genetic algorithms. Thus in this paper a genetic algorithm has been developed, which uses as design variables, in the topology optimisation, the relative densities (with respect to effective material density) 0 or 1 of each element of the structure and, in the shape one, the coord…

Multilayer neural networks: an experimental evaluation of on-line training methods

2004

Artificial neural networks (ANN) are inspired by the structure of biological neural networks and their ability to integrate knowledge and learning. In ANN training, the objective is to minimize the error over the training set. The most popular method for training these networks is back propagation, a gradient descent technique. Other non-linear optimization methods such as conjugate directions set or conjugate gradient have also been used for this purpose. Recently, metaheuristics such as simulated annealing, genetic algorithms or tabu search have been also adapted to this context. There are situations in which the necessary training data are being generated in real time and, an extensive tr…

One-Class Classifiers : A Review and Analysis of Suitability in the Context of Mobile-Masquerader Detection

2007

One-class classifiers employing for training only the data from one class are justified when the data from other classes is difficult to obtain. In particular, their use is justified in mobile-masquerader detection, where user characteristics are classified as belonging to the legitimate user class or to the impostor class, and where collecting the data originated from impostors is problematic. This paper systematically reviews various one-class classification methods, and analyses their suitability in the context of mobile-masquerader detection. For each classification method, its sensitivity to the errors in the training set, computational requirements, and other characteristics are consi…

Tomographic image processing for the morphological and metrological study of Valsalva sinuses

2012

This Phd thesis deals with the design and the use of image processing tools in order to allow a reliable and objective study of the sinuses of Valsalva which are important cavities of the aortic root. The proposed methods can be applied on cine-MR sequences and CT examinations without any change in the settings between two examinations.Firstly, we studied the morphology of this anatomical area and its constant properties in all images of the dataset. Sinuses are one of the main bright organs with limited movements. Hence a new algorithm has been designed. It detects and characterizes each bright organ by a single trajectory. Various tools of mathematical morphology are used for this step, a…

Collecte des données Véhicule/Environnement et remontée avec réseau Cellulaire et réseau Véhiculaire

2019

Vertical handover is one of the key technologies that will facilitate the connected and autonomous vehicles deployment. Today, the emergence of Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs): Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications, Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) has enabled new applications such as Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS), real-time applications (for example, autonomous driving), road traffic management applications and comfort applications. However, these networks are characterized by a high level of mobility and dynamic change in the topology, which generates scattered networks and requires handover mechanisms for maintaining ongoing session…

On the satisfiability problem for fragments of two-variable logic with one transitive relation

2019

Abstract We study the satisfiability problem for two-variable first-order logic over structures with one transitive relation. We show that the problem is decidable in 2-NExpTime for the fragment consisting of formulas where existential quantifiers are guarded by transitive atoms. As this fragment enjoys neither the finite model property nor the tree model property, to show decidability we introduce a novel model construction technique based on the infinite Ramsey theorem. We also point out why the technique is not sufficient to obtain decidability for the full two-variable logic with one transitive relation; hence, contrary to our previous claim, [FO$^2$ with one transitive relation is deci…

Pairwise Learning to Rank by Neural Networks Revisited: Reconstruction, Theoretical Analysis and Practical Performance

2020

We present a pairwise learning to rank approach based on a neural net, called DirectRanker, that generalizes the RankNet architecture. We show mathematically that our model is reflexive, antisymmetric, and transitive allowing for simplified training and improved performance. Experimental results on the LETOR MSLR-WEB10K, MQ2007 and MQ2008 datasets show that our model outperforms numerous state-of-the-art methods, while being inherently simpler in structure and using a pairwise approach only.

Robust existence of nonhyperbolic ergodic measures with positive entropy and full support

2021

We prove that for some manifolds $M$ the set of robustly transitive partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms of $M$ with one-dimensional nonhyperbolic centre direction contains a $C^1$-open and dense subset of diffeomorphisms with nonhyperbolic measures which are ergodic, fully supported and have positive entropy. To do so, we formulate abstract conditions sufficient for the construction of an ergodic, fully supported measure $\mu$ which has positive entropy and is such that for a continuous function $\phi\colon X\to\mathbb{R}$ the integral $\int\phi\,d\mu$ vanishes. The criterion is an extended version of the control at any scale with a long and sparse tail technique coming from the previous w…

Relation entre transitivité et structure de communauté dans les réseaux complexes

2011

The relation between community structure and other topological properties in complex networks, has not been analyzed clearly. In this preliminary study, we explore experimentally the potential link between transitivity and community structure. We study the evolution of transitivity based on the quality of the community structure on artificially generated networks. Then we observe the evolution of community structure according to transitivity value. The results show a relationship between high transitivity and community structure. Additional analytical work is needed to identify the exact nature of this relationship.
