Towards a multi-agent model to prevent damage caused by cocoa mirids to cocoa pods

2019

Agriculture in general and cocoa farm in particular is one of the primary sources of income for several African countries. Although quite useful for the development of Africa, cocoa production is faced with several challenges like the diseases of cocoa trees. Mirid (Sahlbergella singularis) is the worst pest affecting cocoa production across west Africa causing 30% to 40% of damage on cocoa production. It is difficult to control the mirids’ population and its impact on the cacao production. Related works on mirids studied the mirids population as a macroscopic entity without considering local interactions of individual mirids. These models did not consider the behaviours and the environment…

Exponential instability in the fractional Calder\'on problem

2017

In this note we prove the exponential instability of the fractional Calder\'on problem and thus prove the optimality of the logarithmic stability estimate from \cite{RS17}. In order to infer this result, we follow the strategy introduced by Mandache in \cite{M01} for the standard Calder\'on problem. Here we exploit a close relation between the fractional Calder\'on problem and the classical Poisson operator. Moreover, using the construction of a suitable orthonormal basis, we also prove (almost) optimality of the Runge approximation result for the fractional Laplacian, which was derived in \cite{RS17}. Finally, in one dimension, we show a close relation between the fractional Calder\'on pro…

Prostate Metabolism After the Completion of Exclusive Radiation Is More Depleted After Seeds Brachytherapy Compared to External Beam Radiation Therap…

2012

International audience; Biochemical outcome after radiation therapy requires a protracted time. PSA decreases slowly over time so that it is difficult to differentiate immediately after the completion of radiation the impact of radiation in the prostate using brachytherapy or external radiotherapy. At 3 months, the mean PSA values were similar between the 2 groups: 2.54 ng/mL (±1.59) in the EBRT group and 1.88 ng/mL (±1.14) in the PPI group (p=0.23). For Choline levels, 3-months Choline / Baseline Choline ratios were 1.13 (±0.60) after EBRT vs. 0.45 (±0.23) in the PPI group (p=0.003). Similar results were observed for Citrate levels: 3-months Citrate level / Baseline Citrate level ratios we…

MR-based biomarkers in the diagnosis and the evaluation of the therapeutic response to radiotherapy (ETRR) in prostatic carcinoma (PCa): Implementati…

2009

e16136 Background: ETRR in PCa remains a challenging task. New biomarkers in the form of metabolites, detected with Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1H-MRS), and quantitative Apparent Diffusion Coefficient (ADC), determined with Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging, could be of value in the ETRR for PCa. Methods: Twenty-one men with biopsy proven localized PCa were examined before external radiotherapy. 3D-1H-MRS was performed at 3.0T without endorectal coils. The delivered radiotherapy dose was 78 Gy in 39 fractions with 6 MV photons. MR follow-up examinations up to 36 months post-radiotherapy were performed. For the pre-clinical study, healthy rat prostate was studied in …

Quantitative global mapping of terrestrial vegetation photosynthesis

2017

Although traditional remote sensing systems based on spectral reflectance can already provide estimates of the 'potential' photosynthetic activity of terrestrial vegetation through the quantification of total canopy chlorophyll content or absorbed photosynthetic radiation, the determination of the 'actual' photosynthetic activity of terrestrial vegetation requires information about how the absorbed light is used by plants, such as vegetation fluorescence, using very high spectral resolution spectroscopy in the range 650-800 nm. The Fluorescence Explorer (FLEX) mission, selected in November 2015 as the 8th Earth Explorer by the European Space Agency (ESA), carries the FLORIS spectrometer, wi…

SMOS REFLEX 2003: L-band emissivity characterization of vineyards

2005

The goal of the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity mission over land is to infer surface soil moisture from multiangular L-band radiometric measurements. As the canopy affects the microwave emission of land, it is necessary to characterize different vegetation layers. This paper presents the Reference Pixel L-Band Experiment (REFLEX), carried out in June-July 2003 at the Vale/spl grave/ncia Anchor Station, Spain, to study the effects of grapevines on the soil emission and on the soil moisture retrieval. A wide range of soil moisture (SM), from saturated to completely dry soil, was measured with the Universitat Polite/spl grave/cnica de Catalunya's L-band Automatic Radiometer (LAURA). Concurre…

Comparison among different rainfall energy harvesting structures

2018

In this paper, an experimental comparison between different rainfall harvesting devices through the study of the electrical rectifying circuit is proposed. In more detail, three harvesting structures are considered: the cantilever, the bridge and the floating circle. Different waveforms were acquired and discussed. The processed data were compared in order to suggest the best choice for the rectifying circuit, from the simplest one to that most frequently endorsed in the technical literature.

Pulse rate variability measurement with camera-based photoplethysmography

2021

Electrocardiogram (ECG) has been used by doctors and biomedical researchers to measure cardiac parameters such as Heart Rate (HR) and Heart Rate Variability (HRV). HR is a medical index for health monitoring and the HRV is a sign to reflect the activities of Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) and can be used for emotion recognition applications. Recently, remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) has evolved as a non-contact technique for measuring vital cardiac signs. Compared with ECG, this technique is non-invasive, low-cost, comfortable and possibly utilized in long-term monitoring. It has great potential in remote health assessment and emotion detection. However, the rPPG is a video-based method,…

Modified electrocardiograph-triggered black-blood turbo spin-echo technique to improve T1-weighting in contrast-enhanced MRI of atherosclerotic carot…

2008

Purpose To assess the efficacy of a modified electrocardiograph (EKG)-triggered black-blood T1W (T1W) spin-echo sequence in improving contrast on post-gadolinium high-resolution carotid plaque imaging by implementing heart-rate–independent contrast preparation. Materials and Methods We used a standard EKG-triggered double inversion-recovery (DIR) turbo spin-echo (TSE) sequence modified with the addition of an extra saturation (90°) radio frequency (RF) pulse placed immediately after the DIR module, shortening the repetition time to a fixed value of 400 msec. A total of 10 patients with atherosclerotic disease were included in the study. Postinjection intraplaque contrast measurements were p…
