Towards better privacy preservation by detecting personal events in photos shared within online social networks

2015

Today, social networking has considerably changed why people are taking pictures all the time everywhere they go. More than 500 million photos are uploaded and shared every day, along with more than 200 hours of videos every minute. More particularly, with the ubiquity of smartphones, social network users are now taking photos of events in their lives, travels, experiences, etc. and instantly uploading them online. Such public data sharing puts at risk the users’ privacy and expose them to a surveillance that is growing at a very rapid rate. Furthermore, new techniques are used today to extract publicly shared data and combine it with other data in ways never before thought possible. Howeve…

Versatile Direct and Transpose Matrix Multiplication with Chained Operations: An Optimized Architecture Using Circulant Matrices

2016

With growing demands in real-time control, classification or prediction, algorithms become more complex while low power and small size devices are required. Matrix multiplication (direct or transpose) is common for such computation algorithms. In numerous algorithms, it is also required to perform matrix multiplication repeatedly, where the result of a multiplication is further multiplied again. This work describes a versatile computation procedure and architecture: one of the matrices is stored in internal memory in its circulant form, then, a sequence of direct or transpose multiplications can be performed without timing penalty. The architecture proposes a RAM-ALU block for each matrix c…

Intracellular pH-dependent efflux of the fluorescent probe pyranine in the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica.

2001

International audience; 8-Hydroxypyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonic acid (pyranine) can be used as a vital intracellular pH (pH(i)) indicator. In the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica, a partial efflux of the probe was detected by using the pH-independent wavelength of 415 nm. A simplified correction of the fluorescent signals was applied, enabling to show for this species a good near-neutral pH(i) maintenance capacity in a pH 3.9 medium. Octanoic acid, which is known to have toxic effects on yeast, decreased the pH(i) and increased the 260-nm-absorbing compounds leakage. However, this acid inhibited the fluorescent probe efflux linearly with its concentration suggesting a pH(i)-dependent efflux of pyranine …

High Reynolds number Navier-Stokes solutions and boundary layer separation induced by a rectilinear vortex

2013

Abstract We compute the solutions of Prandtl’s and Navier–Stokes equations for the two dimensional flow induced by a rectilinear vortex interacting with a boundary in the half plane. For this initial datum Prandtl’s equation develops, in a finite time, a separation singularity. We investigate the different stages of unsteady separation for Navier–Stokes solution at different Reynolds numbers Re = 103–105, and we show the presence of a large-scale interaction between the viscous boundary layer and the inviscid outer flow. We also see a subsequent stage, characterized by the presence of a small-scale interaction, which is visible only for moderate-high Re numbers Re = 104–105. We also investi…

IMPAIRMENT OF DIASTOLIC FUNCTION DURING SHORT-TERM ANTHRACYCLINE CHEMOTHERAPY

1995

International audience; Abstract: Objective-To assess the early changes in left ventricular diastolic and systolic function due to anthracycline treatment. Design-A prospective study of cardiac function by radionuclide angiography in adults before and one month after the end of anthracycline treatment. Patients-60 patients without cardiac disease treated with chemotherapy containing anthracycline. Methods-Cardiac function was assessed by radionuclide measurement throughout treatment. Ejection fraction, peak ejection rate, time to peak ejection rate, filling rate, and time to peak filling rate were measured before and after treatment, To normalise radionuclide measurements of the left ventri…

HPG-HMapper: A DNA hydroxymethylation analysis tool

2019

DNA methylation (mC) and hydroxymethylation (hmC) can significantly affect the normal human development, as well as health and disease status. hmC studies require not only specific treatment of DNA, but also software tools for their analysis. However, there are no software tools capable of analyzing DNA hmC currently. In this article, we propose HPG-HMapper, a parallel software tool for analyzing the DNA hmC data obtained by ten-eleven translocation–assisted bisulfite sequencing. This tool takes as input data the output files of mC aligner tools, and it yields mC maps and the accounting of methylated and hydroxymethylated bases on each chromosome. The design of this tool includes the consi…

Qualifying Building Information Models with Multi-Agent System

2011

6 pages; International audience; This paper presents a new approach combining the 3D elements composing the environment of mobile agents with semantic descriptors from building information models. Our proposal is based on the IFC standard which is used in the field of Civil Engineering to build digital models of buildings during the design phase. The semantic of IFC objects composing the 3D environment is used to select and set up 3D objects and elements of simulation scenarios. The result of this process dynamically generates the input files to the JaSIM environment that performs the simulation.

Modeling crowd dynamics through coarse-grained data analysis

2018

International audience; Understanding and predicting the collective behaviour of crowds is essential to improve the efficiency of pedestrian flows in urban areas and minimize the risks of accidents at mass events. We advocate for the development of crowd traffic management systems, whereby observations of crowds can be coupled to fast and reliable models to produce rapid predictions of the crowd movement and eventually help crowd managers choose between tailored optimization strategies. Here, we propose a Bi-directional Macroscopic (BM) model as the core of such a system. Its key input is the fundamental diagram for bi-directional flows, i.e. the relation between the pedestrian fluxes and d…

FO^2 with one transitive relation is decidable

2013

We show that the satisfiability problem for the two-variable first-order logic, FO^2, over transitive structures when only one relation is required to be transitive, is decidable. The result is optimal, as FO^2 over structures with two transitive relations, or with one transitive and one equivalence relation, are known to be undecidable, so in fact, our result completes the classification of FO^2-logics over transitive structures with respect to decidability. We show that the satisfiability problem is in 2-NExpTime. Decidability of the finite satisfiability problem remains open.
