Automation of Optimized Gabor Filter Parameter Selection for Road Cracks Detection
2016
International audience; Automated systems for road crack detection are extremely important in road maintenance for vehicle safety and traveler's comfort. Emerging cracks in roads need to be detected and accordingly repaired as early as possible to avoid further damage thus reducing rehabilitation cost. In this paper, a robust method for Gabor filter parameters optimization for automatic road crack detection is discussed. Gabor filter has been used in previous literature for similar applications. However, there is a need for automatic selection of optimized Gabor filter parameters due to variation in texture of roads and cracks. The problem of change of background, which in fact is road text…
LogDet divergence-based metric learning with triplet constraints and its applications.
2014
How to select and weigh features has always been a difficult problem in many image processing and pattern recognition applications. A data-dependent distance measure can address this problem to a certain extent, and therefore an accurate and efficient metric learning becomes necessary. In this paper, we propose a LogDet divergence-based metric learning with triplet constraints (LDMLT) approach, which can learn Mahalanobis distance metric accurately and efficiently. First of all, we demonstrate the good properties of triplet constraints and apply it in LogDet divergence-based metric learning model. Then, to deal with high-dimensional data, we apply a compressed representation method to learn…
Automated Diagnostics of Retinal Pathologies Using OCT Volumes
2020
The leading cause of blindness in the population could mostly be the degeneration of the retina caused by the diabetic-related problems and the aging issue. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic macular edema (DME) are the main direct causes of vision problems in the labor age citizens of most advanced countries. The elevated number of diabetic people globally indicates that DME and DR will remain to be the principal factor to partial or total vision loss, which affects the lives quality of patients for many years to come and threaten their lives. Therefore, early detection followed by fast treatment procedures of persons with diabetic-related diseases is significant in preventing optical …
Automatic cell nuclei counting: a protocol to acquire images and to compare results between color and multispectral images
2013
International audience; High-throughput screening in histology and analysis need a necessary automatic cell or nucleus counting. Current methods and systems based on grayscale or color images give results with counting errors. We suggest to use multispectral imaging (with more than three bands) rather than color one for nucleus counting. A traditional acquisition chains uses a source of white light and a CCD camera in addition to the optical microscope. To pass to a multispectral acquisition, we use a Programmable Light Source (PLS) in the place of the white light source. This PLS is capable of generating different wavelengths in the visible spectrum. So, one color image and four multispect…
Semiautomatic growth analysis of multicellular tumor spheroids.
2011
Multicellular tumor spheroids (MCTS) are routinely employed as three-dimensional in vitro models to study tumor biology. Cultivation of MCTS in spinner flasks provides better growing conditions, especially with regard to the availability of nutrients and oxygen, when compared with microtiter plates. The main endpoint of drug response experiments is spheroid size. It is common practice to analyze spheroid size manually with a microscope and an ocular micrometer. This requires removal of some spheroids from the flask, which entails major limitations such as loss of MCTS and the risk of contamination. With this new approach, the authors present an efficient and highly reproducible method to an…
Contribution to the cooperative management of conflictual spaces between autonomous vehicles
2017
The continuous increase in the number of vehicles has constantly led to innovation to improve the regulation of road traffic. Today, vehicle automation and inter-vehicular communication make possible a new approach: the autonomous and cooperative intersection (ACI) in which autonomous vehicles communicate to negotiate their right of way at the intersection. Theoretically more effective, safer and more economical than traditional approaches, its implementation and deployment constitute a scientific and technological challenge. In this paper, we propose several contributions supporting this development: a longitudinal and lateral vehicle control strategy designed to work with information disc…
Efficient techniques for energy saving in data center networks
2018
Data centers are constructed with a huge number of network devices to support the expanding cloud based services. These devices are used to achieve the highest performance in case of full utilization of the network. However, the peak capacity of the network is rarely reached. Consequently, many devices are set into idle state and cause a huge energy waste leading to a non-proportionality between the network load and the energy consumed. In this paper, we propose a new approach to improve the efficiency of data centers in terms of energy consumption. Our approach exploits the correlation in time of the inter-node communication traffic and some topological features to maximize energy saving w…
Learning-Graph-Based Quantum Algorithm for k-distinctness
2012
We present a quantum algorithm solving the $k$-distinctness problem in $O(n^{1-2^{k-2}/(2^k-1)})$ queries with a bounded error. This improves the previous $O(n^{k/(k+1)})$-query algorithm by Ambainis. The construction uses a modified learning graph approach. Compared to the recent paper by Belovs and Lee arXiv:1108.3022, the algorithm doesn't require any prior information on the input, and the complexity analysis is much simpler. Additionally, we introduce an $O(\sqrt{n}\alpha^{1/6})$ algorithm for the graph collision problem where $\alpha$ is the independence number of the graph.
RDF2NμSMV: Mapping Semantic Graphs to NμSMV Model Checker
2011
International audience; The most frequently used language to represent the semantic graphs is the RDF (W3C standard for meta-modeling). The construction of semantic graphs is a source of numerous errors of interpretation. The processing of large semantic graphs is a limit to the use of semantics in current information systems. The work presented in this paper is part of a new research at the border between two areas: the Semantic Web and the model checking. For this, we developed a tool, RDF2NμSMV, which converts RDF graphs into NμSMV language. This conversion aims checking the semantic graphs with the model checker NμSMV in order to verify the consistency of the data. To illustrate our pro…
High temperature solid-catalized transesterification for biodiesel production
2010
Biodiesel has become more attractive recently because of its environmental benefits and the fact that it is made from renewable resources. Biodiesel is a mixture of monoalkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from renewable feed stock like vegetable oils and animal fats, mainly made of fatty acid glycerides. It is produced by transesterification processes in which oil or fat are reacted with a monohydric alcohol in the presence of a catalyst. The transesterification process is affected by reaction conditions, alcohol to oil molar ratio, type of alcohol, type and amount of catalysts, temperature and purity of reactants. Heterogeneous acid catalysts are quite efficient in promoting the…
