What makes a (ro)bot smart? : examining the antecedents of perceived intelligence in the context of using physical robots, software robots, and chatb…
2022
In recent years, the acceptance and use of intelligent robots and other kinds of intelligent systems have begun to gain more and more attention also in information systems research. Here, many studies have found the perceived intelligence of robots to act as one critical antecedent for their acceptance and use, but few studies have focused on the antecedents of perceived intelligence itself. In this study, we aimed to address this gap in prior research by examining the effects of individual intelligence dimensions on the overall intelligence perception of robots in the work context. In addition, we also examined the potential differences in these effects as well as in the individual intelli…
Students’ engagement in learning by indigenous knowledge-chemistry lesson
2022
This study was aimed at assessing students’ engagement in an integrated indigenous knowledge-chemistry lesson (IIK-CL) designed using the processes involved in cassava dough production. The paper focuses on the behavioural, emotional and cognitive engagement and their impact on students’ construction of knowledge of the factors affecting rate of chemical reactions. The study was conducted in Swedru senior high school in the Agona East municipality of the Central Region of Ghana. A purposively sampled intact class of 26 students aged between 14 and 18 years formed the study. The control group for this study encompassed also 26 students randomly sampled from the remaining chemistry classes in…
2018
This article describes the main results of an ethnographic study on citizen participation carried out in the context of the development of the Urban Initiative (2007-2015): Cuenca-Barrio de San Antón. Managed by the City Council of Cuenca and financed by the European Regional Development Funds (FEDER) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance at the Government of Spain The results of the research show how in the context of the application of neoliberal policies, citizen participation becomes the trigger for new conflicts between institutions and citizens. In this sense, it is worth noting how, in practice, institutions in their capacity as experts and not willing to dis-empower themselves, …
The Paths of Mental Health: The Effects of Co-Detention on Children's Development
2015
This article offers a descriptive analysis of the co-detention phenomenon in the Italian context. Our aim is to focus on the process of keeping children in prison with their detained parental figures and to analyse the environmental conditions in the prison context. The paper describes, in particular, contextual risk factors from the child’s psycho-social development (as well as resilience variables) which are connected to a stay in prison. This analysis is aimed at a multi-dimensional perspective of the concept of risk, related to the phenomenon of co-detention, and as a means to identify different developmental paths. Moreover, it describes certain guidelines on how to structure primary p…
Designing a Low-Fat Food Packaging: Comparing Consumers’ Responses in Virtual and Physical Shopping Environments
2021
This paper aims to test to what extent emotional responses towards a low-fat product presented virtually converge with emotional responses toward this product when presented physically. Second, we want to probe if low-order emotions (physiological/unconscious responses) and high-order emotions (cognitive/conscious responses) converge to explain healthy product choices. To this end, 83 young participants were engaged in our experiment. Two packaging design variables were manipulated with the help of a real company (the color and the message), so that six different packages were created. Two different buying contexts were simulated: A virtual context and a physical context. Physiological resp…
Monete in contesto dall’Acropoli di Gela : (scavi 1952–1953, 1955, 1961)
2022
This work examines the monetary finds from the Acropolis of Gela during the excavations of 1952–1953, 1955 and 1961. It is possible to reconstruct the contexts of discovery for 106 specimens, which come from the main occupation phases of the site, between the fifth and third centuries BC. By reconstructing the contexts it was possible to establish the nature of the monetary finds (single finds or hoards) and the function of the coins within each context (accidental loss or deliberate deposition). The information drawn from the contextual associations offers the opportunity to outline the structure of circulation on the site, especially in relation to the end of the fifth century BC, and als…
2008
This thesis examines the way in which the multiple cultures and identities that people are likely to summon up during an encounter influence the nature of their social interactions. It draws on the epistemological heritage of symbolic interactionism, rather than that of cross-cultural psychology, thus focusing less on the impact of (national) cultural differences on the way that we communicate, than on the intersubjective process that consists in negotiating common grounds for attributing meaning, during a multicultural encounter (semiopragmatics of communication). By analysing a corpus of interactions observed between members of the European Students' Forum (AEGEE), the study underlines th…

Ciò che non si vede? Aria di casa mia. Aria di libertà
2019
"Nice, refreshing, excellent that [it] is our corporate language" : a case study on self-efficacy and EFL in a Nordic online trading bank
2017
Englannin kielen merkitys suomalaisessa yhteiskunnassa on kasvanut viime vuosikymmenten aikana nopealla tahdilla. Nykyään englannin kielen osaaminen on edellytys työntekijälle.
