On the improvement of material formability in SPIF operation through tool stirring action
2012
Single-point incremental forming (SPIF) is a quite new sheet-forming process which offers the possibility to deform complex parts without dedicated dies using a single-point tool and a standard three-axis CNC machine. The process mechanics enables higher strains with respect to traditional sheet-forming processes, but particular attention must be given to the maximum forming angle. In this paper, a new approach is proposed to enhance the material formability through a localized sheet heating as a consequence of the friction work caused by elevated tool rotational speeds. AA1050-O, AA1050-H24, and AA6082-T6 were utilized, and the reached temperatures were recorded by thermocouples, fixed to …
Input-to-State Stability of Lur’e Hyperbolic Distributed Complex-Valued Parameter Control Systems: LOI Approach
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/364057 Open access In this work, input-to-state stability of Lur'e hyperbolic distributed complex-valued parameter control systems has been addressed. Using comparison principle, delay-dependent sufficient conditions for the input-to-state stability in complex Hilbert spaces are established in terms of linear operator inequalities. Finally, numerical computation illustrates our result.
Energy harvesting by waste acid/base neutralization via bipolar membrane reverse electrodialysis
2020
Bipolar Membrane Reverse Electrodialysis (BMRED) can be used to produce electricity exploiting acid-base neutralization, thus representing a valuable route in reusing waste streams. The present work investigates the performance of a lab-scale BMRED module under several operating conditions. By feeding the stack with 1 M HCl and NaOH streams, a maximum power density of ~17 W m−2 was obtained at 100 A m−2 with a 10-triplet stack with a flow velocity of 1 cm s−1, while an energy density of ~10 kWh m−3 acid could be extracted by a complete neutralization. Parasitic currents along feed and drain manifolds significantly affected the performance of the stack when equipped with a higher number of t…

Abstract Applying social investment theory (SIT), we examined whether employment trajectories until midlife, with differential investments in education and employment, are associated with social investments during early life and with work-related well-being in midlife, with a special reference to potential differences between self-employment and paid work. In the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966 (n = 6496; 2963 men, 3533 women), life-history calendars from age 16–45 were used to determine the respondents’ yearly employment statuses (student, full-time employee, part-time employee, self-employed, unemployed, on parental leave, on sabbatical leave or otherwise not working). Latent class ana…
Influence of mobbing (workplace bullying) on depressive symptoms: a longitudinal study among employees working with people with intellectual disabili…
2013
BACKGROUND: The problem of mobbing has attracted a great deal of attention over the past few years. This concern has increased the study of the phenomena, which has resulted in many scientific publications. Mobbing has been characterised as an emerging risk at work. The aim of this longitudinal study was to analyse the influence of mobbing on depressive symptoms in a sample of employees working with people with intellectual disabilities (ID). METHOD: The sample consisted of 372 Spanish employees working with people with ID at 61 job centres in the Valencian Community (Spain). Seventy-nine (21.2%) participants were men, and 293 were (78.8%) women. Mobbing was evaluated by the Mobbing-UNIPSIC…
Library for model querying
2012
Query and transformation languages make it easy to work with models, but they are bound to one particular data store. That makes them hard to adopt in projects where data is stored in a different repository, which hinders more widespread use of transformations and models. Instead of adopting a transformation language to a new data store, we propose to build a query and transformation library for the general-purpose language that is already used in a project. In this paper we demonstrate that it can be easily by implementing such a library for an EMOF-like data store in the Lua language.
Tailorable Representation of Security Control Catalog on Semantic Wiki
2018
Selection of security controls to be implemented is an essential part of the information security management process in an organization. There exist a number of readily available information security management system standards, including control catalogs, that could be tailored by the organizations to meet their security objectives. Still, it has been noted that many organizations tend to lack even the implementation of the fundamental security controls. At the same time, semantic wikis have become popular collaboration and information sharing platforms that have proven their strength as an effective way to distribute domain-specific information within an organization. This paper evaluates…
Personal data in a large digital library
2000
The RePEc Economics library offers the largest distributed source of freely downloadable scientific research reports in the world. RePEc also contains details about Economics institutions, publication outlets and people working in the field. All this data forms a large relational dataset. In this paper we describe HoPEc, a system that allows to implement access control records personal data within RePEc. The bulk of these records describe the authors of documents. These records are maintained by the authors themselves. We discuss the technical and social aspects of this system.
How was the Turin Shroud Man crucified?
2014
As the literature is not exhaustive with reference to the way the Turin Shroud (TS) Man was crucified, and it is not easy to draw significant information from only a "photograph" of a man on a linen sheet, this study tries to add some detail on this issue based on both image processing of high resolution photos of the TS and on experimental tests on arms and legs of human cadavers. With regard to the TS Man hands, a first hypothesis states that the left hand of the TS Man was nailed twice at two different anatomical sites: the midcarpal joint medially to the pisiform between the lunate/pyramidal and capitate/uncinate bones (Destot's space) and the radiocarpal joint between the radio, lunate…
Effect of exercises with weight vests and a patient education programme for women with osteopenia and a healed wrist fracture: a randomized, controll…
2015
Background Exercise programmes have shown to be important for the prevention of fractures in patients with established osteoporosis. However, few studies have evaluated the effect of such programmes for women with low bone mineral density (BMD) (osteoporosis or osteopenia) who have already suffered a fracture. Studies have indicated that exercise programmes concentrating on muscular strength and dynamic balance have a positive effect on significant risk factors for falls such as quadriceps strength and balance. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of a 6-month exercise programme and a patient education component (OsteoACTIVE) on quadriceps strength, BMD, dynamic balance, wa…
