Coupled Electric and Hydraulic Control of a PRS Turbine in a Real Transport Water Network
2019
Although many devices have recently been proposed for pressure regulation and energy harvesting in water distribution and transport networks, very few applications are still documented in the scientific literature. A new in-line Banki turbine with positive outflow pressure and a mobile regulating flap, named Power Recovery System (PRS), was installed and tested in a real water transport network for the regulation of pressure and flow rate. The PRS turbine was directly connected to a 55 kW asynchronous generator with variable rotational velocity, and coupled to an inverter. The start-up tests showed how automatic adjustment of the flap position and the runner velocity variation are able to c…
Multilevel energy regulation : a study of NVE’s connections and autonomy in a European context
2016
Masteroppgave offentlig politikk og ledelse- Universitetet i Agder, 2016 An evolving European executive order is changing the circumstances for national steering and administrative capacities. Increasingly compound and interconnected administrative structures that span across levels of governance provide an environment where domestic agencies might be serving multiple organizations or centres of authority simultaneously. Thus potentially challenging national control and accountability. This thesis has set out to map NVE’s potential participation in such multilevel administrative structures for energy regulation in Europe. By examining NVE’s connection and contact with its ministry departmen…
Reconfigurable DNA Origami Nanocapsule for pH-Controlled Encapsulation and Display of Cargo
2019
DNA nanotechnology provides a toolbox for creating custom and precise nanostructures with nanometer-level accuracy. These nano-objects are often static by nature and serve as versatile templates for assembling various molecular components in a user-defined way. In addition to the static structures, the intrinsic programmability of DNA nanostructures allows the design of dynamic devices that can perform predefined tasks when triggered with external stimuli, such as drug delivery vehicles whose cargo display or release can be triggered with a specified physical or chemical cue in the biological environment. Here, we present a DNA origami nanocapsule that can be loaded with cargo and reversibl…

The Comparison of Software Reliability Assessment Models
2015
Abstract The reliability of the software represents one of the most important attributes of software quality, and the estimation of the reliability of the software is a problem hard to solve with accuracy. Nevertheless, in order to manage the quality of the software and of the standard practices in an organization, it is important to achieve an estimation of the reliability as accurate as possible. In the present work there are described the principles and techniques which underlie the estimation of the reliability of the software, starting from the definition of the concepts which express the attributes of software quality. It is taken into account the issue of the estimation of a software…
Effects of combined hormone replacement therapy or its effective agents on the IGF-1 pathway in skeletal muscle.
2010
Objectives To investigate the effects of combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and its effective agents on the IGF-1 signaling pathway. Design and methods To examine the effects of HRT on skeletal muscle in vivo, we utilized pre- and post-intervention samples from a randomized double blinded trial with 50–57-year-old women. The intervention included the year-long use of either HRT preparation (2 mg 17β-estradiol, E2; 1 mg norethisterone acetate, NETA, n = 10) or placebo (CO, n = 9). Microarray technology and quantitative PCR (qPCR) were used to study the expression of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-1) and its splice variants as well as IGF-1 receptor, Akt1, mTOR, FOXO1, FOXO3, atrog…
Solvent production from rice straw by a co-culture of Clostridium acetobutylicum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae: effect of pH control
2022
One of the challenges in biofuel production from lignocellulosic wastes is to improve its conversion to solvents; therefore, new strategies to enhance xylose uptake are required due to be the secondary abundant sugar. In this context, a novel fermentation strategy integrating a co-culture of Clostridium acetobutylicum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae with pH control was developed. Initially, two different buffers, ammonium acetate and calcium carbonate, were tested under pHmin > 4.8 by fermenting 60 g L−1 of glucose with the C. acetobutylicum monoculture. Ammonium acetate was selected for fermenting media as butanol production was increased from 9.8 to 10.9 g L−1 over the calcium carbonate test…
