Identity and Cultural Transition : Lessons to Learn from a Negative Case Analysis

In this paper, we present a single case study of identity crisis that unfolded in the cultural transition context. Our participant was ‘Jenni’ – a 26 years old female basketball player with the double (Scandinavian and African American) ethnic identity. In a series of life story interviews, she shared her story of migrating to the USA at the age of 16 for sport and study. Jenni’s transition narrative was extracted and analyzed using several complementary theoretical frameworks, including the intersectionality perspective on identity. Educational attainment and permanence in NEET situation among youth

Using the French Labour Force Survey, this paper analyses the individual and institutional effects on the transitions into and out of NEET status before and after the crisis. In particular, we question whether the profiles or the labour market transition patterns of young people have changed since the economic crisis. The econometric results indicate that the NEET risks vary according to age, sex, educational level and social origins. They also show that the transition out of NEET status is more related to the educational attainment, after 2008. Conversely, the lack of human capital and social capital increases the retention of youth in NEET situations.

Differences in wage determination in the Eurozone: A challenge to the resilience of the common currency

Abstract Different developments in wages and unit labor costs across countries can reduce the synchronization of business cycles within a currency area and therefore be a potential source of asymmetric shocks and/or asymmetric response to a common shock. In this paper, we use novel econometric methods to identify differences and similarities in wage determination across Eurozone countries. Results show that wages have different determinants across euro area countries, among which two relatively distinct groups can be identified. The article aims to analyse the evolution of budgetary expenditures and their relationship with economic growth, especially in the EU countries and three non-EU countries - Switzerland, Norway and Iceland during 1991 - 2012. To test the link between government spending and economic growth the research used the United Nation Classification of the Functions of Government and three econometrical regression methods – ordinary least square, least squares dummy variable and the generalized method of moments.
