IntroductionOut-of-hospital cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in industrialised countries. Survival depends on prompt identification of cardiac arrest and on the quality and timing of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation. For laypeople, there has been a growing interest on hands-only CPR, meaning continuous chest compression without interruption to perform ventilations. It has been demonstrated that intentional interruptions in hands-only CPR can increase its quality. The ‘computer revolution’ is the most obvious phenomenon of our time. The new capabilities introduced by the digital drafting have triggered a substantial evolution of the relationship between representation and design. The diffusion of digital technologies in Architecture has opened new frontiers in the design field, stimulating the development of a new expressive language that promotes generating complex shapes. On the other hand, the shape often becomes the main interest of the designers. Then, is the project only a formal question? Are the glamour images become the main target to which the ‘New Architecture’ aims?

Quando m’incuriosisce un libro, a volte chiedo all’autore (o all’editore) di spedirmelo per una recensione. Fino agli anni settanta si cercava di progettare il prodotto “defi- nitivo”, potremmo dire “assoluto”, nel senso di largamente condivisibile, pensato per durare nel tempo, il cui processo di produzione – industriale – garantiva l’abbattimento dei costi e il conseguente basso prezzo di vendita. Si trattava di un prodotto funzionale e concretamente utile, pensato per un uso pratico, volto a migliorare vita di tutti i giorni.
