The purpose of the present thesis is to perform a research on the textual tradition and the critical edition of Aelius Aristides’ speech Εἰς Ῥώμην (To Rome) (2nd century CE). Delivered in Rome in 144 CE, this speech is a praise of the Roman Empire. The first critical edition of the speech was published by B. Keil in 1898; in the 20th century, two philologists prepared editions with critical text, based on the apparatus of Keil. The thesis consists of a general introduction and two parts, followed by the bibliography, and four appendices. The first part explains the research on the textual tradition of the speech, and is structured in six chapters. The second part consists of the critical ed…

Dalle mitologie alla biopoetica

2017

Introduzione agli studi culturali latinoamericani: evoluzioni, limiti, prospettive.

Two non-zero solutions for Sturm–Liouville equations with mixed boundary conditions

2019

Abstract In this paper, we establish the existence of two non-zero solutions for a mixed boundary value problem with the Sturm–Liouville equation. The approach is based on a recent two critical point theorem.

Recommended practice for out-of-hospital emergency anaesthesia in adults: Statement from the Out-of-Hospital Emergency Anaesthesia Working Group of t…

2016

Emergency anaesthesia is an important therapeutic measure in out-of-hospital emergency medicine. The associated risks are considerably higher than those of in-hospital anaesthesia. The primary objectives of emergency anaesthesia are hypnosis, analgesia, oxygenation and ventilation through airway management. The secondary objectives of emergency anaesthesia are amnesia, anxiolysis, the reduction of oxygen consumption and respiratory work, the protection of vital organs and the avoidance of secondary myocardial and cerebral damage. A critical evaluation of the indications for outof- hospital emergency anaesthesia must take into consideration patient, case and provider-related factors. Rapid s…

Size dependence of the Josephson critical behavior in pyrolytic graphite TEM lamellae

2014

We have studied the transport characteristics of TEM lamellae of different widths obtained from a graphite sample with electrical contacts at the edges of the embedded interfaces. The temperature dependence of the resistance, as well as the current-voltage characteristics, are compatible with the existence of Josephson-coupled superconducting regions. The transition temperature at which the Josephson behavior sets in decreases with a decreasing interface width and vanishes for widths below 200 nm. This interface-size dependence provides an explanation for differences observed in the transport behavior of graphite-based samples with interfaces, and it appears to be related to the influence o…

A new boundary-controlled phase transition: Phase separation in an Ising bi-pyramid with competing surface fields

2005

We study phase coexistence of an Ising ferromagnet in a bi-pyramid geometry with a square basal plane of linear extension 2L + 1. Antisymmetric surface fields act on the pyramid surfaces above and below the basal plane. In the limit L → ∞, the magnetisation stays zero at the bulk critical temperature, but becomes discontinuously non-zero at the cone filling critical temperature associated with a single pyramid. Monte Carlo simulations and scaling considerations show that this transition is described by a Landau theory with size-dependent coefficients that give rise to singular critical amplitudes.
