Determinants for Tight and Selective Binding of a Medicinal Dicarbene Gold(I) Complex to a Telomeric DNA G-Quadruplex: a Joint ESI MS and XRD Investi…
2016
International audience; The dicarbene gold(I) complex [Au(9-methylcaffein-8-ylidene)(2)]BF4 is an exceptional organometallic compound of profound interest as a prospective anticancer agent. This gold(I) complex was previously reported to be highly cytotoxic toward various cancer cell lines invitro and behaves as a selective G-quadruplex stabilizer. Interactions of the gold complex with various telomeric DNA models have been analyzed by a combined ESI MS and X-ray diffraction (XRD) approach. ESI MS measurements confirmed formation of stable adducts between the intact gold(I) complex and Tel 23 DNA sequence. The crystal structure of the adduct formed between [Au(9-methylcaffein-8-ylidene)(2)]…
Cohen Syndrome-Associated Cataract Is Explained by VPS13B Functions in Lens Homeostasis and Is Modified by Additional Genetic Factors
2020
International audience; Purpose: Cohen syndrome (CS) is a rare genetic disorder caused by variants of the VPS13B gene. CS patients are affected with a severe form of retinal dystrophy, and in several cases cataracts also develop. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanisms and risk factors for cataract in CS, as well as to report on cataract surgeries in CS patients. Methods: To understand how VPS13B is associated with visual impairments in CS, we generated the Vps13b∆Ex3/∆Ex3 mouse model. Mice from 1 to 3 months of age were followed by ophthalmoscopy and slit-lamp examinations. Phenotypes were investigated by histology, immunohistochemistry, and western blot. Literature anal…
Nonlinear femtosecond pulse propagation in an all-solid photonic bandgap fiber
2009
Nonlinear femtosecond pulse propagation in an all-solid photonic bandgap fiber is experimentally and numerically investigated. Guiding light in such fiber occurs via two mechanisms: photonic bandgap in the central silica core or total internal reflection in the germanium doped inclusions. By properly combining spectral filtering, dispersion tailoring and pump coupling into the fiber modes, we experimentally demonstrate efficient supercontinuum generation with controllable spectral bandwidth.
Crystal and solution structures of di-n-butyltin(IV) complexes of 5-[(E)-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-diazenyl]quinolin-8-ol and benzoic acid derivatives: E…
2009
Abstract Reactions of nBu2SnCl(L1) (1), where L1 = acid residue of 5-[(E)-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-diazenyl]quinolin-8-ol, with various substituted benzoic acids in refluxing toluene, in the presence of triethylamine, yielded dimeric mixed ligand di-n-butyltin(IV) complexes of composition [nBu2Sn(L1)(L2–6)]2 where L2 = benzene carboxylate (2), L3 = 2-[(E)-2-(2-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl)-1-diazenyl]benzoate (3), L4 = 5-[(E)-2-(4-methylphenyl)-1-diazenyl]-2-hydroxybenzoate (4), L5 = 2-{(E)-4-hydroxy-3-[(E)-4-chlorophenyliminomethyl]-phenyldiazenyl}benzoate (5) and L6 = 2-[(E)-(3-formyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-diazenyl]benzoate (6). All complexes (1–6) have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H,…
Superfluorinated ionic liquid crystals based on supramolecular, halogen-bonded anions
2016
Unconventional ionic liquid crystals in which the liquid crystallinity is enabled by halogen-bonded supramolecular anions [CnF2 n+1-I⋯I⋯I-CnF2 n+1]- are reported. The material system is unique in many ways, demonstrating for the first time 1) ionic, halogen-bonded liquid crystals, and 2) imidazolium-based ionic liquid crystals in which the occurrence of liquid crystallinity is not driven by the alkyl chains of the cation. Out of the ordinary: The high directionality of halogen bonds and the fluorophobic effect were exploited in the design and synthesis of a new family of unconventional superfluorinated ionic liquid crystals. The liquid crystallinity of the system is driven by halogen-bonded…
Conformational properties of cyanomethoxy calix[4]arenes.
2005
O-Alkylation of the dinitro calix[4]arene 2, easily available by selective ipso-nitration of the di-cyanomethyl ether 1, with allylbromide (DMF/Cs2CO3) gave tetraethers 3 and 4 with anti- and syn-orientations of the two allyl ether residues. The two possible stereoisomers of 3 in the partial cone and 1,2-alternate conformation exist as an equilibrium mixture which could be quantitatively analysed by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The temperature dependence of this equilibrium leads to ΔH0 = − 7.6 to −9.7 kJ mol−1 in different solvents (tetrachloroethane, benzene, dimethylsulfoxide). Since 3(1,2-alt) could be obtained in pure form, its isomerisation to the equilibrium mixture with 3(paco) could be fol…
N-(2,3,5,6-Tetrafluoropyridyl)sulfoximines: synthesis, X-ray crystallography, and halogen bonding
2020
In the presence of KOH, NH-sulfoximines react with pentafluoropyridine to give N-(tetrafluoropyridyl)sulfoximines (NTFP-sulfoximines) in moderate to excellent yields. Either a solution-based or a superior solvent-free mechanochemical protocol can be followed. X-Ray diffraction analyses of 26 products provided insight into the bond parameters and conformational rigidity of the molecular scaffold. In solid-state structures, sulfoximines with halo substituents on the S-bound arene are intermolecularly linked by C–X⋯OS (X = Cl, Br) halogen bonds. Hirshfeld surface analysis is used to assess the type of non-covalent contacts present in molecules. For mixtures of three different S-pyridyl-substit…
Preparation and structural characterization of organotin(IV) complexes with ligands containing a hetero {N} atom and a hydroxy group or hydroxy and c…
2005
AbstractTwenty-two n-butyltin(IV) and t-butyltin(IV) complexes of ligands containing an –OH (–C@O) group or –OH and –COOHgroups and an aromatic {N} donor atom were prepared by metathetical reactions. On the basis of the FT-IR and Mo¨ssbauer spec-troscopic data, molecular structures were assigned to these compounds. The binding sites of the ligands were identified by means ofFT-IR spectroscopic measurements, and it was found that in most cases the organotin(IV) moiety reacts with the phenolic form ofthese ligands. In the complexes with –OH and –COOH functions, the –COOH group is coordinated to the organotin(IV) centres in amonodentate manner. The 119 Sn Mo¨ssbauer and the FT-IR studies suppor…
2-Methyl-4-phenyl-3,4-dihydroquinazoline
2011
The title compound, C15H14N2, was formed during the lithiation of 2-methylquinazoline with phenyllithium followed by hydrolysis of the intermediate lithium 2-methyl-4-phenyl-4H-quinazolin-3-ide. NMR spectra as well as single-crystal X-ray structural data indicate that the reaction product to have the same structure in chloroform solution as in the crystalline state. The phenyl substituent is twisted out of the plane of the 3,4-dihydroquinazoline ring system by 86.47 (7)°. In the crystal, intermolecular N-HN interactions connect the molecules into infinite chains. peerReviewed
A Probabilistic Model for Crystal Growth Applied toProtein Deposition at the Microscale.
2018
A probabilistic discrete model for 2D protein crystal growth is presented. This model takes into account the available space and can describe growing processes of a different nature due to the versatility of its parameters, which gives the model great flexibility. The accuracy of the simulation is tested against a real recrystallization experiment, carried out with the bacterial protein SbpA from Lysinibacillus sphaericus CCM2177, showing high agreement between the proposed model and the actual images of the crystal growth. Finally, it is also discussed how the regularity of the interface (i.e., the curve that separates the crystal from the substrate) affects the evolution of the simulation.
