New advances in radiomics of gastrointestinal stromal tumors
2020
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are uncommon neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract with peculiar clinical, genetic, and imaging characteristics. Preoperative knowledge of risk stratification and mutational status is crucial to guide the appropriate patients' treatment. Predicting the clinical behavior and biological aggressiveness of GISTs based on conventional computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) evaluation is challenging, unless the lesions have already metastasized at the time of diagnosis. Radiomics is emerging as a promising tool for the quantification of lesion heterogeneity on radiological images, extracting additional data that cannot be assessed b…
From suspicion of angioedema to the diagnosis of lung cancer
2020
Angioedema is a localized and self-limiting oedema of the subcutaneous and submucosal tissue. Case presentation: 73-year-old man was admitted to the Division of Allergology with the diagnosis of angioedema. Detailed physical examination led to the suspicion of superior vena cava syndrome with secondary face swelling. Biopsy revealed metastasis of small cell carcinoma in superclavicular lymph nodes. Conclusions: Facial swelling, especially recurrent and non-inflammatory, is often, but not always caused by angioedema. Insightful differential diagnosis is crucial before making the final one.
Computed Tomography in Nonneoplastic Space-Occupying Intracranial Lesions
1981
A number of nonneoplastic intracranial space-occupying lesions may resemble neoplasms in the CT scan, and definitive diagnosis is not possible with CT studies alone in many cases. Misinterpretations are possible, even when all clinical data are considered in the interpretation of the CT scan. However, the most accurate possiblepreoperative diagnosis is a prerequisite for decisions on therapeutic strategy and surgical approach. Therefore some cases may require the full range of conventional neuroradiological techniques and careful consideration of clinical findings for correct interpretation of the CT scan with its consequences for therapy. Table 6 summarizes the most common alternatives in …
Telemedicine Online Visits in Urology During the COVID-19 Pandemic-Potential, Risk Factors, and Patients' Perspective.
2020
The current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has placed considerable strain on hospital resources. We explored whether telemedicine (defined as a videoconference) might help. We undertook prospective structured phone interviews of urological patients (n = 399). We evaluated their suitability for telemedicine (judged by a panel of four physicians) and their risks from COVID-19 (10 factors for a poor outcome), and collected willingness for telemedicine and demographic data. Risk factors for an adverse outcome from COVID-19 infection were common (94.5% had one or more) and most patients (63.2%) were judged suitable for telemedicine. When asked, 84.7% of patients wished for a teleme…
Differentialdiagnose Berylliose/Sarkoidose bei einem Zahntechniker
2008
History and clinical findings Sarcoidosis was diagnosed in a dental technician when he was aged 21 years. Two years later prednisolone treatment was started and continued for 14 years because of nonproductive cough with progressive reduction in vital capacity and CO transfer capacity. Subsequently the risk of exposure to beryllium-containing dust in dental laboratories became known. In his case exposure had started before sarcoidosis had been diagnosed and had continued for 16 years. Changes typical of sarcoidosis (unproductive cough and dyspnoea; bihilar lymphadenopathy and reticulonodular marking in the chest radiogram) were now present, at the age of 40 years. Investigations Vital and di…

Delayed diagnosis of extrapulmonary tuberculosis in a 32-year-old man with knee pain
2016
A 32-year-old Bangladeshi male was admitted at our emergency department for trauma of the left knee. The radiographs showed absence of fracture, and presence of an indeterminate oval lucency in the proximal tibia. Further examinations were suggested, but the patient refused. 6 months later, the patient re-presented at our emergency department. A CT scan showed progression of musculoskeletal involvement and spread to the liver. This case underlines the importance of considering tuberculosis in the differential diagnosis of indeterminate bone lesions in immigrant patients.
Primary malignant PEComa of the mandible. Report of an unusual case
2021
Malignant PEComa is a rare entity that usually origins at visceral, retroperitoneal and abdominopelvic sites. In the present paper, we describe an extremely unusual manifestation of malignant PEComa involving the mandible in a 48 years-old female patient focusing on the anatomopathological findings and differential diagnosis. The therapeutic management based on the head and neck tumor board indications is also discussed. Key words:Malignant PEComa, PEComa of the mandible, PEComa pathology, Oral cavity unusual neoplasm.
Is Kelami's Method Still Useful in the Smartphone Era? The Virtual 3-Dimensional Reconstruction of Penile Curvature in Patients With Peyronie's Disea…
2021
Abstract Background Peyronie's disease is an idiopathic fibrotic disease affecting the penile tunica albuginea. Among other resulting deformities, the more common penile curvature should be assessed preferentially with in-office goniometric estimation after pharmacologically induced erection, although clearly invasive and uncomfortable. Aim In the present pilot study, we investigated the usefulness for the patient and the surgeon of a 3-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the penile curvature obtained through photogrammetry software in clinical evaluation and surgical planning. Methods Enrolled patients received alprostadil 10 μg by intracavernous injection. Then, the medical personnel took …
