Effective charge from lattice QCD

Using lattice configurations for quantum chromodynamics (QCD) generated with three domain-wall fermions at a physical pion mass, we obtain a parameter-free prediction of QCD's renormalisation-group-invariant process-independent effective charge, $\hat\alpha(k^2)$. Owing to the dynamical breaking of scale invariance, evident in the emergence of a gluon mass-scale, this coupling saturates at infrared momenta: $\hat\alpha(0)/\pi=0.97(4)$. Discrete exterior calculus for photonic crystal waveguides

The discrete exterior calculus (DEC) is very promising, though not yet widely used, discretization method for photonic crystal (PC) waveguides. It can be seen as a generalization of the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The DEC enables efficient time evolution by construction and fits well for nonhomogeneous computational domains and obstacles of curved surfaces. These properties are typically present in applications of PC waveguides that are constructed as periodic structures of inhomogeneities in a computational domain. We present a two-dimensional DEC discretization for PC waveguides and demonstrate it with a selection of numerical experiments typical in the application area. …

Con un nuevo diseño del curso de laboratorio incluyendo laboratorios virtuales junto con los tradicionalmente ofrecidos, se persigue conseguir una mejora cualitativa en el aprendizaje de los alumnos y detectar su percepción respecto al uso de simulaciones en el laboratorio. Parafīlijas pazīmju un disfunkcionālu domāšanas pazīmju saistība pieaugušajiem

Bakalaura darba mērķis bija noskaidrot, kādas saistības pastāv starp parafilijas pazīmēm un kognitīvo izkropļojumu pazīmēm pieaugušajiem. Šajā darbā tika apskatīti 15 parafilijas veidi, kuri visbiežāk ir sastopami klīniskajā un juridiskajā praksē, un to saistība ar kognitīvajiem izkropļojumiem jeb domāšanas paterniem, kuri attiecas uz kādu noteiktu uzvedību raksturojošu faktoru. Pētījumā piedalījās 119 respondenti, no tiem 34 (29 %) vīrieši un 85 (71 %) sievietes, vecumā no 18–55 gadiem (Mvec.=28,9).
