Targeting the vascular endothelial growth factor system to prevent ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome

BACKGROUND: Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) typically occurs when ovaries are primed with FSH/ LH and subsequently exposed to hCG. The ultimate pathophysiological step underlying this clinical picture is increased vascular permeability (VP). METHODS: A search of the literature was carried out using PubMed and the authors’ files. RESULTS: In rodents and humans, the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and VEGF receptor 2 (VEGFR-2) mRNA increases during ovarian stimulation. Although many devices have recently been proposed for pressure regulation and energy harvesting in water distribution and transport networks, very few applications are still documented in the scientific literature. A new in-line Banki turbine with positive outflow pressure and a mobile regulating flap, named Power Recovery System (PRS), was installed and tested in a real water transport network for the regulation of pressure and flow rate. Objectives: Bleaching of vital teeth performed at home by the patient under the dentist’s supervision, using low-concentration peroxides and custom-fitted trays specifically designed for this purpose, is one of several options for this type of dental treatment, whether alone or in combination with another in-office bleaching technique. The objective of this study is to analyse the effect on the enamel surface of two bleaching products recommended for this technique. Materials & methods: Two bleaching products were used: VivaStyle (Vivadent), a 10% carbamide peroxide, and FKD (Kin), a 3.5% hydrogen peroxide. Planar Sobolev extension domains

This doctoral thesis deals with geometric characterizations of bounded planar simply connected Sobolev extension domains. It consists of three papers. In the first and third papers we give full geometric characterizations of W 1, p-extension domains for 1 < p < 2 and p = 1, respectively. The second paper establishes a density result for Sobolev functions on planar domains, necessary for the solution for the case p = 1. Combining with the known results, we obtain a full geometric characterization of W 1, p-extension domains for every 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞.

Lai gan metaforas pētījumi ir piesaistījuši daudzu zinātnieku uzmanību, metaforu lietojums modes emuāros nav daudz pētīts. Emuārs kā žanrs parādījās 2000.gadu sākumā un kopš tā laika ir izveidojušies dažādi emuāra veidi. Empīriskie dati ir ekscerpēti no modes emuāra The Blonde Salad. Pētījums ir izstrādāts, lai atbildētu uz pētījuma jautājumu - kāda metaforu funkcija dominē emuārā The Blonde Salad. Pētījuma mērķis ir noteikt avota domēnus, kas metaforiski raksturo modi izvēlētajā modes emuārā.
