Front propagation in the one-dimensional autocatalyticA+B→2Areaction with decay

1999

We consider front propagation in the autocatalytic scheme $A+\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{B}2A,$ where we also allow the A particles to decay, $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{A}0,$ with a constant decay rate $\ensuremath{\beta}.$ In a one dimensional, discrete, situation the A domain moves as a pulse, and its dynamics differs from what is found in higher dimensions. Thus the velocity of the pulse tends to a finite value when $\ensuremath{\beta}$ approaches from below the critical value ${\ensuremath{\beta}}_{c},$ at which pulses die out. On the other hand, when approaching ${\ensuremath{\beta}}_{c}$ from above, the mean lifetime of the pulse grows as $T\ensuremath{\propto}(\ensu…

Sulla difesa del servo assente da parte del terzo nel processo nossale classico. A proposito di D. 9.4.21.1 (Ulp. 23 ad ed.)

2017

The paper aims to revise the traditional opinion, based on D. 9.4.21.1 (Ulp. 23 ad ed.), that in the noxal proceeding a non dominus could never defend a slave absent in iure. According to the author no technical reason justifies this opinion and D. 9.4.39.1 (Iul. 9 dig.) contradicts it. Therefore D. 9.4.21.1 should be interpreted in a differet way: a non dominus could defend a slave absent in iure by giving a positive answer to the interrogatio ‘an servus in potestate eius sit’; otherwise he would have to produce the slave in court, if in possession of him, in order to allow the claimant the ductio.

BAG3, a multifunctional HSP70 co-chaperone and anti-apoptotic protein that interacts with the ATPase domain of HSP70 through its C-terminal BAG domain plays a key physiological role in cellular proteostasis. The HSP70/BAG3 complex determines the levels of a large number of selective client proteins by regulating their turnover via the two major protein degradation pathways, i.e. proteasomal degradation and macroautophagy. On the one hand, BAG3 competes with BAG1 for binding to HSP70, thereby preventing the proteasomal degradation of its client proteins. By functionally interacting with HSP70 and LC3, BAG3 also delivers polyubiquitinated proteins to the autophagy pathway. BAG3 exerts a numbe…

Protein quality control during aging involves recruitment of the macroautophagy pathway by BAG3.

2009

The Hsc/Hsp70 co-chaperones of the BAG (Bcl-2-associated athanogene) protein family are modulators of protein quality control. We examined the specific roles of BAG1 and BAG3 in protein degradation during the aging process. We show that BAG1 and BAG3 regulate proteasomal and macroautophagic pathways, respectively, for the degradation of polyubiquitinated proteins. Moreover, using models of cellular aging, we find that a switch from BAG1 to BAG3 determines that aged cells use more intensively the macroautophagic system for turnover of polyubiquitinated proteins. This increased macroautophagic flux is regulated by BAG3 in concert with the ubiquitin-binding protein p62/SQSTM1. The BAG3/BAG1 ra…

Construction of Disjoint Virtual Backbones for Wireless Sensor Networks

2020

A wireless sensor network is a wireless network of sensors aimed at monitoring physical events. It has ingratiated itself into almost all areas of human endeavors. Data dissemination in these networks is quite challenging and is generally accomplished by flooding. But flooding introduces broadcast storm problem due from implosion and overlap. To overcome this, topology management can prescribe a virtual backbone network to which routing is confined. In this paper we propose an algorithm that constructs multiple disjoint virtual backbone networks, using only nodes' locations. The disjointedness makes routing more robust and the network exploitation energy efficient. Simulations show our algo…

Genetic and Biochemical Approach for Characterization of Resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis Toxin Cry1Ac in a Field Population of the Diamondback M…

2000

ABSTRACT Four subpopulations of a Plutella xylostella (L.) strain from Malaysia (F 4 to F 8 ) were selected with Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki HD-1, Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. aizawai , Cry1Ab, and Cry1Ac, respectively, while a fifth subpopulation was left as unselected (UNSEL-MEL). Bioassays at F 9 found that selection with Cry1Ac, Cry1Ab, B. thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki , and B. thuringiensis subsp. aizawai gave resistance ratios of >95, 10, 7, and 3, respectively, compared with UNSEL-MEL (>10,500, 500, >100, and 26, respectively, compared with a susceptible population, ROTH). Resistance to Cry1Ac, Cry1Ab, B. thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki , and B. thuringiensis subsp…

Low-complexity AoA and AoD Estimation in the Transformed Spatial Domain for Millimeter Wave MIMO Channels

2021

High-accuracy angle of arrival (AoA) and angle of departure (AoD) estimation is critical for cell search, stable communications and positioning in millimeter wave (mmWave) cellular systems. Moreover, the design of low-complexity AoA/AoD estimation algorithms is also of major importance in the deployment of practical systems to enable a fast and resource-efficient computation of beamforming weights. Parametric mmWave channel estimation allows to describe the channel matrix as a combination of direction-dependent signal paths, exploiting the sparse characteristics of mmWave channels. In this context, a fast Transformed Spatial Domain Channel Estimation (TSDCE) algorithm was recently proposed …
