Contains fulltext : 71443.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) The International Multi-Centre ADHD Gene sample consists of 674 families from eight countries (Belgium, England, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Israel, Spain, and Switzerland) ascertained from clinics for combined-type attention definity hyperactivity disorder in an offspring. 863 SNPs were successfully genotyped across 47 autosomal genes implicated in psychiatric disorders yielding a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) density of approximately one SNP per 2.5 kb. Ultrasonic phased array inspection of wire plus arc additive manufacture samples using conventional and total focusing method imaging approaches

In this study, three aluminium samples produced by wire + arc additive manufacture (WAAM) are inspected using ultrasonic phased array technology. Artificial defects are machined using a centre drill, ø 3 mm, and electrical discharge machining (EDM), ø 0.5-1 mm, in a cylindrical through-hole topology. The samples are first inspected using a single-element wheel probe mounted on a KUKA robot in order to investigate the feasibility of using a conventional ultrasonic transducer approach. Unfortunately, the wheel probe is found to be unsuitable for scanning the WAAM specimens and ultrasonic phased arrays are employed next. Ge-doped silica nanoparticles: production and characterisation

Silica nanoparticles were produced from germanosilicate glasses by KrF laser irradiation. The samples were investigated by cathodoluminescence and scanning electron microscopy, providing the presence of nanoparticles with size from tens up to hundreds of nanometers. The emission of the Germanium lone pair center is preserved in the nanoparticles and atomic force microscopy revealed the presence of no spherical particles with a size smaller than ~4 nm. The absorption coefficient enhancement induced by Ge doping is reputed fundamental to facilitate the nanoparticles production. This procedure can be applied to other co-doped silica materials to tune the nanoparticles features.

Chainsaw operators are exposed to many hazards that can lead to health problems. The two most frequently documented ergonomics threats in the use of chainsaws are noise and vibration exposure. Since the use of battery chainsaws is increasing due to the growing improvements in battery life and power, the study aims to compare the difference in terms of noise emission and vibration levels of the following two new models of chainsaws: the battery-powered Stihl MSA 300 and the petrol-powered Stihl MS 261 C-M. Vibronic structures in the visible luminescence of silica nanoparticles

Time resolved photoluminescence investigation in air and in vacuum atmosphere of the visible luminescence related to silica surface defects is here reported. Two contributions can be singled out: one, observed both in air and in vacuum, is the well-known blue band, peaked around 2.8 eV decaying in ∼5 ns; the other, only observed in vacuum, is a structured emission in the violet range characterized by two vibronic progressions spaced 1370 cm−1 and 360 cm−1 decaying in ∼100 ns. Structure of amorphous SiO 2 nanoparticles probed through the E′ γ centers

We report an experimental investigation by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy on the properties of the E′ γ centers induced by β-ray irradiation in nanoparticles of amorphous SiO 2 (fumed silica) with mean diameters from 7 up to 40 nm. We found that the E′ γ centers are induced in all the fumed silica types in the dose range 4-400 kGy. They are characterized by an EPR line shape similar to that observed in common bulk silica materials independently on the particle diameter. Moreover, the E′ γ center concentration decreases on decreasing of the particle size for each given dose.
