Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease affecting primarily the skin, peripheral nerves, respiratory system and the eyes. Leprosy induces various types of clinical presentation affecting the patient´s immune response. Cellmediated immunity is considered to be the crucial defence against the disease and the magnitude of this immunity defines the extent of the disease. Objectives: To determine the efficacy of the pediculate flap with the buccal fat pad in the sealing of orosinusal communications, describe the surgical technique used, and report the main complications. Patients and method: A retrospective study was made of 8 patients seen in the Service of Oral Surgery of the University of Barcelona Dental Clinic (Spain) for the treatment of orosinusal communications between the years 2007 and 2009. Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between hematinic deficiencies and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). Material and Methods 517 RAS patients and 187 healthy controls were enrolled in the present study. Hematinic deficiencies, including serum ferritin, folic acid, and vitamin B12 deficiencies were assessed for each participant.
