Long-lasting remission of primary hepatic lymphoma and hepatitis C virus infection achieved by the alpha-interferon treatment

2004

Primary hepatic lymphoma is a rare but well-defined lymphoma entity that often pursues an aggressive clinical course. Most cases have been described in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related chronic liver disease patients. Although anthracycline-based chemotherapy has been reported to be highly effective, the best therapeutic strategy has not been defined yet. The prognosis is dismal especially in patients treated with chemotherapy alone or when an advanced liver disease is present. Herein, we describe a case of primary hepatic large B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, in a patient with HCV chronic infection. After a minor response with eight cycles of CHOP chemotherapy, a complete and sustained remiss…

More than Pneumonia: Distinctive Features of SARS-Cov-2 Infection. From Autopsy Findings to Clinical Implications: A Systematic Review

2020

Despite safety recommendations for the management of corpses with COVID-19 infection and the high number of deaths worldwide, the post-mortem investigation rate is extremely low as well as the scientific contributions describing the pathological features. The first results of post-mortem investigations provided interesting findings and contributed to promoting unexplored therapeutic approaches and new frontiers of research. A systematic review is provided with the aim of summarizing all autopsy studies up to February 2020 in which a complete post-mortem investigation in patients with COVID-19 disease was performed, focusing on histopathological features. We included case reports, case serie…

Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, Body Mass Index, and Cytokine Polymorphisms: A Pooled Analysis from the InterLymph Consortium.

2015

Abstract Background: Excess adiposity has been associated with lymphomagenesis, possibly mediated by increased cytokine production causing a chronic inflammatory state. The relationship between obesity, cytokine polymorphisms, and selected mature B-cell neoplasms is reported. Method: Data on 4,979 cases and 4,752 controls from nine American/European studies from the InterLymph consortium (1988–2008) were pooled. For diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), follicular lymphoma (FL), and chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL), joint associations of body mass index (from self-reported height and weight) and 12 polymorphisms in cytokines IL1A (rs1800587), IL1B (rs16944,…

Durability of complete response after blinatumomab therapy for relapsed/refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma

2020

Despite advances in standards of care, the prognosis of relapsed/refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) remains poor. In these patients, 50–74% fail to respond to next line therapy,...

Safety of the Anti-CD19 antibody Tafasitamab in Long Term Responders from A Phase II Trial for Relapsed Lymphoma

2022

Abstract Background: Information about the long-term tolerability of tafasitamab is still limited. Methods: 5 of 92 patients treated within a phase IIa study of single-agent tafasitamab in relapsed or refractory B NHL were followed for up to five years or longer for long-term tolerability. Results: Treatment was very well tolerated in an outpatient setting with no hospitalizations needed and mild and tolerable adverse events that occurred mostly within the first two years of treatment. Conclusions: Given the excellent tolerability and efficacy of tafasitamab this agent can be used to induce remission in relapsed or refractory lymphoma either alone or in combination with chemotherapy.

The importance of nutrient source in determining the influence of retention time on phytoplankton: an explorative modelling study of a naturally well…

2009

Two models were used to examine the relationship between hydraulic retention time, nutrient source and total chlorophyll in a shallow lake (Bassenthwaite Lake, UK). The first model was a derivation of the Vollenweider model and the second was the phytoplankton community model, PROTECH. The adapted Vollenweider model produced two different responses to changing the retention time that were phosphorus source dependent. If the phosphorus was totally from a point source, then annual mean chlorophyll steadily declined with increasing flushing rate. However, when a diffuse source was used, the chlorophyll changed little and even increased with short retention times (retention time \40 days). The …

Dense jet modelling applied to the design of dense effluent diffusers

2004

A model aimed at predicting the behavior of inclined dense jets in a stagnant environment was proposed. The model takes into account four jet parameters (flow rate, density, inclination and diameter) and results in a set of algebraic and ordinary differential equations, which are easily solved by simple (standard) numerical methods. Model results include information on the trajectory, spreading and dilution of the inclined dense jets. Model predictions were compared with experimental data obtained with different nozzle diameters, jet flow rates, jet densities and nozzle inclinations. Despite the wide range encompassed by the experimental data analyzed, model predictions were always found to…

Spatial transcriptome of a germinal center plasmablastic burst hints at MYD88/CD79B mutants-enriched diffuse large B-cell lymphomas

2022

The GC reaction results in the selection of B cells acquiring effector Ig secreting ability by progressing toward plasmablastic differentiation. This transition is associated with exclusion from the GC microenvironment. The aberrant expansion of plasmablastic elements within the GC fringes configures an atypical condition, the biological characteristics of which have not been defined yet. We investigated the in situ immunophenotypical and transcriptional characteristics of a nonclonal germinotropic expansion of plasmablastic elements (GEx) occurring in the tonsil of a young patient. Compared to neighboring GC and perifollicular regions, the GEx showed a distinctive signature featuring key r…

The restoration and reuse of sacred spaces in historical architecture: the Church of the Santissimo Salvatore in Naro and the Church of Santa Maria d…

2015
