Urban Landscape in the Graphic Representations of the Cathedral of Palermo

The present study offers some reflections on the relationship between the cathedral of Palermo and the urban area in which it insists, regarding the indissoluble link with the landscape aspect that through the history offered a variety of perceptive suggestions, marked by the passage and presence of different dominations. The cognitive storytelling of the cathedral of Palermo is obtained through a graphic study on routes which provided of multiple images keeping the scar of time in the elaboration of orographic sections and perspective views and highlighting the role of perception in this changing combination of architecture and landscape.

Dual-beam confocal light-sheet microscopy via flexible acousto-optic deflector

Confocal detection in digital scanned laser light-sheet fluorescence microscopy (DSLM) has been established as a gold standard method to improve image quality. The selective line detection of a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor camera (CMOS) working in rolling shutter mode allows the rejection of out-of-focus and scattered light, thus reducing background signal during image formation. Most modern CMOS have two rolling shutters, but usually only a single illuminating beam is used, halving the maximum obtainable frame rate. Objectives: Presentation and validation of software developed for automated and accurate application of a reference-based algorithm (reference sphere method: RSM) inferring the effective imaging geometry from quantitative radiographic image analysis. Methods: The software uses modern pattern recognition and computer vision algorithms adapted for the particular application of automated detection of the reference sphere shadows (ellipses) with subpixel accuracy. It applies the RSM algorithm to the shadows detected, thereby providing threedimensional Cartesian coordinates of the spheres.
