L'ouverture de la Chine et ses impacts sur l'économie chinoise

2012

In the early 1980s, Chinese government has adopted an opening up policy in order to attract capital, skills and modern advanced technology that are necessary for the economic development of China. Indeed, this policy has already borne fruit. China, that was almost self-sufficient until the 1980s, has now become the largest exporter and the second largest recipient of foreign direct investment in the world. Until now, most of the research on the economic opening up policy of China, however, has concentrated on the demonstration of the positive effects of exports and FDI inflows on the domestic economy of China. In this thesis, based on the analysis of economics of production, we study the re…

Do Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Trade Openness Explain the Disparity in ICT Diffusion between Asia-Pacific and the Islamic Middle Eastern Coun…

2010

This study investigates the impact of FDI and trade openness on ICT diffusion in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions from 1996-2005. The results indicate that while dissimilarities exist between the economies included in this study in terms of their level of socio-economic and political development, education and the growth of GDP have had a positive impact on ICT diffusion in both regions. However, while FDI has generally had a positive and significant impact on ICT diffusion in Asia-Pacific economies, its impact on Middle Eastern economies has been detrimental. The results of this study also show that trade-openness has had, in general, a positive and significant impact on ICT diffus…

Crisis of Privacy and Sacrifice of Personal Data in the Name of National Security: The CJEU Rulings Strengthening EU Data Protection Standards

2017

Snowden’s surveillance revelations in 2013 raised the issue of privacy and security in the public spotlight. These revelations underlined the need for strong data protection framework. At the same time, the pressing demand to address security concerns and the threat of terrorist attacks might weaken privacy and data protection standards. Two landmark judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union (the CJEU), namely, the Digital rights Ireland judgment which invalidates Data Retention Directive, and the Schrems judgment which invalidates Safe Harbour Decision forming a legal basis for transatlantic data transfers are of great significance in strengthening the rights to privacy and d…

Neural Networks to Determine the Relationships Between Business Innovation and Gender Aspects

2021

Gender aspects of management, innovation and entrepreneurship are gaining more and more importance as cross-cutting issues for researchers, practitioners and decision makers. Extant literature pays a growing attention to the hypothesis that there exists a correlation between the gender diversity of corporate boards of directors and the business attitude to innovation. In this paper we introduce a working framework to test the aforementioned hypothesis and to examine the correlation between board diversity and innovation perception of a business. This framework is based on correlation computation and feed-forward neural networks, and it is used to evaluate whether the gender component may be…

Primary Frequency Control in the Power System of Continental Europe including the Dynamics of the HVDC Link France-Great Britain

2020

The paper presents a study of primary frequency control within the power system of Continental Europe (CE) including the dynamics of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) link between France and Great Britain (GB). The large-scale dynamic model of the CE system originally provided by ENTSO-E is extended with a more detailed representation of the whole HVDC interconnection. The dynamics of the GB synchronous area is also considered in the analysis, implementing a system equivalent suitable for primary frequency control studies. The opportunity of frequency containment reserve exchange between the two areas through the link is also investigated, considering supplementary frequency controls w…

Cross-Border Higher Education : The Expansion of International Branch Campuses

2022

AbstractThe international expansion of higher education has intensified in recent decades with a rapidly growing number of international branch campuses appearing on the scene. This study investigates the economic, cultural and institutional, and educational determinants of transnational higher education on both the extensive margin (number of international branch campuses), and the intensive margin (the total number of educational programmes offered). Using the gravity equation, we applied fixed-effect empirical methods to a panel dataset that combined and extended the raw data from campuses and master’s programmes in 33 source countries and 76 host countries in the period from 1948 to 201…

Attractiveness of Countries for Foreign Direct Investments from the Macro-Economic Perspective

Attractiveness and value adding characteristics of countries for Foreign Direct Investments usually are linked to new customers, upcoming demands, unsatisfied needs, competitive situations, etc. But they are also closely connected to macro-economic factors, which build the focus of this research praper. To make it more differentiable, those factors have been separated into five major dimensions: Political/Legal, Economic, Social, Technological and Intercultural Factors. Each of those factors consists of minimum five sub-factors which have been analyzed and taken into consideration. The aim is to find out, which factors influence the decisions for FDIs. If knowing that, stecific decisions ca…
