Pathogenicity of intrathoracically administrated Bacillus thuringiensis spores in Blatta orientalis.

2006

Abstract The ability of Bacillus thuringiensis to produce septicaemia in Periplaneta americana and Blatta orientalis has been investigated. Spores and crystals from several wild-type strains as well as spores of a B. thuringiensis crystal-deficient mutant, were first orally administrated at high doses, and no significant mortality was recorded. Intrathoracic injection of spore suspensions in P. americana revealed that this species is not very susceptible to B. thuringiensis spores. B. orientalis , by contrast, was found to be very susceptible to B. thuringiensis , with a LD 50 of about 35,000 spores, that is similar to that reported on Lepidoptera challenged with parenterally injected B. th…

TEATRO MUSICAL Y PERSPECTIVA DE GÉNERO: LA OBRA SICALÍPTICA DE VICENTE LLEÓ DURANTE SU ETAPA EN EL TEATRO ESLAVA DE MADRID (1907-1912)

2020

Determination of consensus kQ values for megavoltage photon beams for the update of IAEA TRS-398

2020

The IAEA is currently coordinating a multi-year project to update the TRS-398 Code of Practice for the dosimetry of external beam radiotherapy based on standards of absorbed dose to water. One major aspect of the project is the determination of new beam quality correction factors, kQ, for megavoltage photon beams consistent with developments in radiotherapy dosimetry and technology since the publication of TRS-398 in 2000. Specifically, all values must be based on, or consistent with, the key data of ICRU Report 90. Data sets obtained from Monte Carlo (MC) calculations by advanced users and measurements at primary standards laboratories have been compiled for 23 cylindrical ionization chamb…

Effects of chronic administration with high doses of testosterone propionate on behavioral and physiological parameters in mice with differing basal …

2003

The effects of testosterone propionate, an anabolic-androgenic steroid, on the behavior displayed during a social encounter by gonadally intact male mice were investigated. Animals were distributed into three groups according to their attack latency in a pre-screening test (high-, moderate-, and low-attacking mice) and each group received weekly injections of 60 or 120 mg/kg of testosterone or sesame oil for 10 weeks. Behavioral tests were then carried out. Afterwards, organs were weighed and blood samples collected in order to obtain hormonal data. Treatment had a differential impact on attack in the three groups of animals. Only the high-attacking testosterone-treated mice showed lower to…

Effect of polybrominated biphenyls on bromobenzene lethality in mice.

1977

Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) are inducers of hepatic microsomal cytochrome P450 and P1 450 in rats and mice. The purpose of this study was to determine, in mice, the effect of PBBs on the lethality of the hepatotoxin bromobenzene. Female NMRI mice were administered a single ip injection of 150 mg/kg PBBs and other mice received phenobarbital (PB), 100 mg/kg daily for 3 days, or 3‐methylcholanthrene (MC), 20 mg/kg daily for 3 days. At 24 hr after PB or MC and 24, 48, and 96 hr after PBBs animals received 3,150 mg/kg bromobenzene ip (LD85) and the time to death was recorded. Both PB and MC enhanced bromobenzene lethality and decreased the median time to death (LT50) from 23 hr in controls …

Effect of priming with diphtheria and tetanus toxoids combined with whole-cell pertussis vaccine or with acellular pertussis vaccine on the safety an…

1995

Objective: To evaluate the safety and the immunogenicity of a booster dose of recombinant acellular pertussis vaccine combined with diphtheria and tetanus toxoids (DTaP, Biocine SpA) in 15- to 21-month-old children primed in infancy with either whole-cell diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTwP) vaccine or DTaP vaccine. Design: Open-label second phase of a double-masked, controlled trail, with masked analysis of serum samples. Participants and setting: Three hundred fifty children, 15 to 21 months of age, who had been primed at 2, 4, and 6 months of age with either three doses of DTaP vaccine (n = 173) or DTwP vaccine (n = 177). The children were enrolled in eight vaccination centers in Italy. I…

Effect of aspirin on renal disease progression in patients with type 2 diabetes: A multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial. T…

2017

Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is one of the most common causes of chronic kidney disease and kidney failure. It has been estimated that the annual decline of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) among patients with T2DM is approximately 2.0-2.5 mL min−1 y−1. Cyclooxygenase-dependent eicosanoids, such as 11-dehydro-thromboxane (Tx)B2, are increased in T2DM patients and are potentially involved in the regulation of renal blood flow. Animal models showed that cyclooxygenase inhibitors, such as aspirin, are associated with improvements in renal plasma flow and eGFR values. Hypothesis The primary end point of the LEDA trial is to evaluate the 1-year decline of eGFR in T2DM pa…
