Efficiency Improvement of Inverter-Fed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

In this paper a control algorithm for the efficiency improvement of inverter-fed permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) is presented. The proposed algorithm allows reducing the losses of the drive without reduction of its dynamic performances. In details, after recalling a dynamic model of the PMSM, which has been purposely modified and that takes into account the iron losses, the basic equations and the constraints to obtain the loss minimization are presented and discussed. A Simple Software-based Resolver To Digital Conversion System

In this paper, a software-based resolver to digital converter (RDC) is proposed. The hardware signal conditioning circuit is realized using common electronic components, while the algorithm can be implemented either using a microcontroller or an FPGA. Its validation and performance analysis has been carried out using an interior permanent magnet synchronous machine drive and, with comparative purposes, an LTN Servotechnik 1024 ppr incremental encoder. Tests show that the proposed RDC is characterized by a good dynamic response and precision, moreover, due to low computational demand, it can be successfully adopted without significant extra cost.
Digital demodulation for fast set-up of sensorless PMSM electrical drives based on magnetic anisotropy

This paper presents a demodulation algorithm applied to the sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). The sensorless control technique reported in this paper is based on the injection of high frequency voltages to the stator so that the motor currents contain information on the rotor position. This information is then extracted by an appropriate demodulation technique. Joint Influence of Transverse Compression and Shear-Flexural Stiffness on Rubber V-Belt Mechanics

The elasto-mechanical behavior of a rubber V-belt in the neighborhood of the seating and unseating regions of the pulley is affected by the transverse belt compliance, which produces a gradual radial penetration into the groove and by the shear-flexural deformation, which arches the belt line along the free strand away from the ideal straight path. These effects are always analyzed separately in the literature, but are in close correlation with each other. This lecture describes the matching between the free strand and the wrap region, showing a remarkable reduction of the belt arching and of the contact losses, with respect to the conventional theory.

Improving the speed estimation by load torque estimation in induction motor drives: an MRAS and NUIO approach

This paper proposes the application of the NUIO inside a FOC induction motor drive for the simultaneous estimation of the load torque and the rotor speed. The idea is to estimate at first the speed with the current model in parallel with a reference model developed on the basis of the voltage model of the induction machine. Then, the estimated speed is given as input to a nonlinear unknown input observer (NUIO) to estimate the load torque. This estimation is then used to correct the previous estimation of the speed. This paper presents a low-cost Micro Controller Unit (MCU) implementation of an enhanced Field Oriented Control (FOC) technique that takes into account the non-linearity of the ferromagnetic material. The algorithm is applied to a three-phase 5.5 kW Induction Motor (IM) and experimentally carried out by means of an ATMEL ATSAM3X8E microcontroller. This paper presents a practical implementation of synchronous PWM modulation algorithm for an induction motor field oriented control powered by a DC/AC inverter and implemented on a low-cost microcontroller, the ATSAM3X8E. This paper proposes the employment of the differential evolution (DE) to offline optimize the covariance matrices of a new reduced delayed-state Kalman-filter (DSKF)-based algorithm which estimates the stator-flux linkage components, in the stationary reference frame, to realize sensorless control of induction motors (IMs).
