An electrochemical route towards the fabrication of nanostructured semiconductor solar cells
2010
This work presents our preliminary results regarding an electrochemical process which allows the growth of nanostructured materials by means of nanopore templates. Also we analyze possible applications of this process to fabricate nanostructured semiconductors, such as CIGS, suitable for photovoltaic devices, and we consider the implications from the perspective of characterization techniques and device modelling when using such a technology.
Nanostructured Electrochemical Devices for Sensing, Energy Conversion and Storage
2016
Nanomaterials are very promising to enhance device performances for sensing, sustainable energy production, and energy conversion and storage, as extensively reported in the literature [1-3]. In this field, one of the most severe challenge is to find suitable methods for fabricating nanomaterials. Over the years, numerous preparation methods were proposed in the literature, but not all of them are easily scalable and economically advantageous for industrial application. In this context, electrochemical deposition in template is a facile method for fabricating either two- or one-dimensional nanostructured materials because it allows to easily adjust the fundamental parameters controlling the…
Highly selective detection of Epinephrine at oxidized Single-Wall Carbon Nanohorns modified Screen Printed Electrodes (SPEs)
2014
Oxidized Single-Wall Carbon Nanohorns (o-SWCNHs) were used, for the first time, to assemble chemically modified Screen Printed Electrodes (SPEs) selective towards the electrochemical detection of Epinephrine (Ep), in the presence of Serotonine-5-HT (S-5HT), Dopamine (DA), Nor-Epineprhine (Nor-Ep), Ascorbic Acid (AA), Acetaminophen (Ac) and Uric Acid (UA). The Ep neurotransmitter was detected by using Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV), in a wide linear range of concentration (2-2500 μM) with high sensitivity (55.77 A M(-1) cm(-2)), very good reproducibility (RSD% ranging from 2 to 10 for different SPEs), short response time for each measurement (only 2s) and low detection of limit (LOD=0.…
Optimal Design of Grid Integration of a Net Zero Energy Building trough Electrochemical Energy Storage and Fuel Cell Utilization
2018
The integration of electrochemical energy storage, renewable energy production, and fuel cell systems can play a key role in the development of more efficient eco-friendly systems, spanning all sectors of energy management, from stationary to mobile. In particular, residential sector consumed 19% of worldwide energy production in 2015, resulting the third energivorous sector after transport and industry. Distributed energy systems, which efficiently use local resources, can reduce problems in regions with lack of a stable network and more in general help the growth of a sustainable development. In this case, the impact of PV-Lithium Batteries-SOFC integration in a NZEB (Net Zero Energy Buil…

Unconventional materials for light-emitting and photovoltaic applications
2018
Photoelectrochemical Evidence of Cu2O/TiO2 Nanotubes Hetero-Junctions formation and their Physicochemical Characterization
2014
Cu2O/TiO2 nanotubes heterojunctions were fabricated by electrochemical deposition of cuprous oxide on TiO2 nanotubes arrays grown by anodizing. X-ray diffraction and Raman Spectroscopy analysis allows for identification of Cu2O, whose morphological features were studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy as a function of the charge circulated during the electrodeposition step. Photoelectrochemical measurements in aqueous solutions evidenced a red shift of the light absorption threshold of TiO2 nanotubes due to the presence of cuprous oxide even for very low circulated charges, while electrochemical impedance measurements proved a significant reduction of the electrode impedance due the presenc…
Near-Quantitative Internal Quantum Efficiency in a Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cell
2008
A green-light-emitting iridium(III) complex was prepared that has a photoluminescence quantum yield in a thin-film configuration of almost unity. When used in a simple solid-state single-layer light-emitting electrochemical cell, it yielded an external quantum efficiency of nearly 15% and a power efficiency of 38 Lm/W. We argue that these high external efficiencies are only possible if near-quantitative internal electron-to-photon conversion occurs. This shows that the limiting factor for the efficiency of these devices is the photoluminescence quantum yield in a solid film configuration. The observed efficiencies show the prospect of these simple electroluminescent devices for lighting and…
Self-absorption in a light-emitting electrochemical cell based on an ionic transition metal complex
2015
We report on the quantitative and qualitative effects of self-absorption in light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) based on ionic transition metal complexes (iTMCs), as measured in-situ during electric driving. A yellow-emitting iTMC-LEC comprising an active material thickness of 95 nm suffers a 4% loss of the emission intensity to self-absorption, whereas the same type of device but with a larger active-material thickness of 1 mu m will lose a significant 40% of the light intensity. We also find that the LEC-specific effect of doping-induced self-absorption can result in a drift of the emission spectrum with time for iTMC-LECs, but note that the overall magnitude of doping-induced sel…
