The ARIETTA study: baseline demographics in a real-world setting in patients with severe asthma

2017

Introduction and Aim: As recognition of asthma heterogeneity increases and targeted treatment options are introduced, the future role of biomarkers (BM) in patient (pt) selection, monitoring and risk prediction will be important. We report baseline demographic and clinical characteristics from ARIETTA, an ongoing, prospective, longitudinal study assessing the relationship between BM and disease-related health outcomes in the real world. Methods: Pts with severe asthma (GINA steps 4-5) receiving daily inhaled corticosteroids (CS; fluticasone propionate ≥500 μg or equivalent) and ≥1 second controller medication were enrolled. Study enrollment is now complete. BM, clinical characteristics and …

Treatment with human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells for COVID-19 patients with lung damage: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-contro…

2020

AbstractBACKGROUNDTreatment of severe Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is challenging. We performed a phase 2 trial to assess the efficacy and safety of human umbilical cord-mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) to treat severe COVID-19 patients with lung damage, based on our phase 1 data.METHODSIn this randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled trial, we recruited 101 severe COVID-19 patients with lung damage. They were randomly assigned to receive either UC-MSCs (4 × 107 cells per infusion) or placebo on day 0, 3, and 6. The primary endpoint was an altered proportion of whole lung lesion volumes from baseline to day 28. Other imaging outcomes, 6-minute walk test, maximum vital capaci…

Efficacy of Grass Pollen Allergen Sublingual Immunotherapy Tablets for Seasonal Allergic Rhinoconjunctivitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

2015

IMPORTANCE: Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) and meta-analyses of sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (SARC) have shown a modest clinical benefit compared with placebo. Furthermore, indirect comparison by meta-analyses showed that subcutaneous immunotherapy is more effective than SLIT. Despite these data, SLIT has become the most prescribed treatment of SARC in Europe in recent years, and it was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of SARC to grass pollen in the United States on April 1, 2014. OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety of the grass pollen sublingual tablets licensed as drugs in the treatm…

Incidence of infective endocarditis before and after the guideline modification regarding a more restrictive use of prophylactic antibiotics therapy …

2019

Infective endocarditis (IE) is a potentially life-threatening disease. Regardless the improvements in IE management, it remains associated with high mortality and severe complications. Staphylococci and streptococci account for 80% of all IE cases. Prevention of IE by appropriate administration of antibiotics before procedures with potential bacteremia in selected patients is recommended according to recent and current guidelines. However, recent studies, have questioned the efficacy of antimicrobial prophylaxis in special situations and in some patient-groups. As a consequence, the guideline of the French working group on IE in 2002, the American Heart Association (AHA) guideline in 2007, …

Long-term prognostic implications of revascularization in patients with known or suspected chronic coronary syndromes without ischemia in vasodilator…

2021

In this study, we evaluated the association between symptoms-guided revascularization occurred within three months following a negative vasodilator stress cardiovascular magnetic resonance (negative stress-CMR) and long-term adverse events in patients with known or suspected chronic coronary syndrome (CCS).We retrospectively evaluated 3517 patients in which the stress first-pass perfusion imaging revealed no ischemia. The primary endpoint was the composite of death, spontaneous myocardial infarction, heart failure (HF), or stroke. The association between symptoms-guided revascularization after a negative stress-CMR and the endpoint was assessed using the multivariable Cox proportional hazar…
