A time domain triangle method approach to estimate actual evapotranspiration: Application in a Mediterranean region using MODIS and MSG-SEVIRI produc…
2016
Abstract In this study, spatially distributed estimates of regional actual evapotranspiration (ET) were obtained using a revised procedure of the so called “triangle method” to parameterize the Priestley–Taylor ϕ coefficient. In the procedure herein proposed, named Time-Domain Triangle Method (TDTM), the triangular feature space was parameterized considering pairs of T s –VI values obtained by exploring, for each pixel, only their temporal dynamics. This new method was developed using time series products provided by MODIS and MSG-SEVIRI sensors. Moreover the proposed procedure does not depend on ancillary data, and it is only based on remotely sensed vegetation indices and day–night time l…
Contribution of virtual reality to functional rehabilitation
2010
Virtual reality has grown immensely. Practical applications for the use of this technology encompass many fields in both engineering science and human science. In the field of medicine, one of the newest fields to benefit from the advances in VR technology, virtual reality has become a major new therapeutic tool not only in medicine and surgery but also for the treatment of psychological disorders and rehabilitation for impaired person. Our research presented in this thesis aims at developing utilities to aid in functional rehabilitation using virtual reality technology. The main research question of our work concerns the effect of virtual metaphors in learning and training human gestures f…
2014
This paper analyses current trends in the terminography field and translators’ needs regarding terminology resources. In this context, the Trandix tool is presented as a novel software application that pursues efficiency in terminological searches conducted by translators. This tool is based on Tarp’s Function Theory of Lexicography (2008a) and Spohr’s proposal concerning electronic multifunctional dictionaries (2009). A further goal of this paper is to serve as an example for future research in terminological resources aiming to meet translators’ requirements and expectations when carrying out terminology searches
An Introduction: "to train and to be trained"
2020
The chapter describes the training model of "Experts in proximity violence and its two main features: 1. the identification of training goals capable of providing specific tools, methods and skills; 2. the creation of a training-course prototype capable of integrating the proposed objectives and the relevant contents in terms of professional spendability.
When a virus (Covid-19) attacks human rights: The situation of asylum seekers in the medico-legal setting
2020
The Covid-19 pandemic is a global health emergency that requires immediate, effective action by governments to protect the health and basic human rights of everyone’s life. Refugees and migrants are potentially at increased risk because they typically live in overcrowded conditions often without access to basic sanitation. Since the beginning of the official lockdown for Covid-19, the medico-legal assessment of physical violence related to obtaining status or other forms of human protection has been frozen.
Optimization Strategy of Novel Peptide-Based Michael Acceptors for the Treatment of Human African Trypanosomiasis
2019
This paper describes an optimization strategy of the highly active vinyl ketone 3 which was recognized as a strong inhibitor of rhodesain of Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense, endowed with a ksecond v...
Structure-based engineering of strictosidine synthase: auxiliary for alkaloid libraries.
2007
SummaryThe highly substrate-specific strictosidine synthase (EC 4.3.3.2) catalyzes the biological Pictet-Spengler condensation between tryptamine and secologanin, leading to the synthesis of about 2000 monoterpenoid indole alkaloids in higher plants. The crystal structure of Rauvolfia serpentina strictosidine synthase (STR1) in complex with strictosidine has been elucidated here, allowing the rational site-directed mutation of the active center of STR1 and resulting in modulation of its substrate acceptance. Here, we report on the rational redesign of STR1 by generation of a Val208Ala mutant, further describing the influence on substrate acceptance and the enzyme-catalyzed synthesis of 10-m…
Morphometrics of Second Iron Age ceramics - strengths, weaknesses, and comparison with traditional typology.
2014
12 pages; International audience; Although the potential of geometric morphometrics for the study of archaeological artefacts is recognised, quantitative evaluations of the concordance between such methods and traditional typology are rare. The present work seeks to fill this gap, using as a case study a corpus of 154 complete ceramic vessels from the Bibracte oppidum (France), the capital of the Celtic tribe Aedui from the Second Iron Age. Two outline-based approaches were selected: the Elliptic Fourier Analysis and the Discrete Cosine Transform. They were combined with numerous methods of standardisation/normalisation. Although standardisations may use either perimeter or surface, the res…
